    Super cool place! Definitely check it out. Unfortunately the day I went it was raining. I need to go back on a sunny day to get better pictures. We still had a great time though dancing in the rain on the observation tower!

      The first time I ever went up there it was 35 degrees, windy, and wet. It was a bit rough. The next time though was absolutely beautiful. Such a cool area.

      Funny thing about that song, there is a good case to be made that it isn't about WV but about the area in northwestern Virginia, Front Royal, etc.

    Another great episode! I wonder how long it takes a raindrop to travel from Spruce Knob to the mouth of the Potomac. It's a great tragedy that the early loggers didn't leave any remnants of the earlier forests.

      There are a few spots relatively close that still have some old growth if you drive up towards Maryland. Those stands of old growth are amazing.

      If the skies are clear you should have a beautiful view. There is open space in the summit area you could easily stand several telescopes up on the tower itself. There are also several spots on the trail encircling the summit that will allow for stargazing. Best of luck!

    • @blakeadkins138
      @blakeadkins138 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the skies are clear you’ll have no problem. The Milky Way is more visible during certain parts of the night. Right now, it’s more visible a few hours before sunrise and a few hours after sunset in the fall. Check the lunar cycle and shoot for a new moon or when the moon will not be present in the sky.

    Any chance that you will do The U.S. Minor Outlying Islands Highpoint, looking forward to New Jersey, New York, and New England, I also have a youtube channel, The Highpoints of the States and Territories, I am going to visit Mt. Davis, Hoye-Crest, And Spruce Knob, they will be #9,#10, and #11. Great video.

      I've always planned for the major territories, and if I can somehow figure it out both Navassa and Palmyra Atoll for the smaller ones. As for the rest of them it be awesome but right now not at all feasible for me. I'll check out your channel! Always down for supporting other highpointers in this pursuit. I plan to take my son to PA, MD, and WV in the very near future for his first visit. Cheers!

    • @emilyavidon2421
      @emilyavidon2421 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RooftopsofAmerica I would say that those two are the most important minor territory highpoints, because Palmyra is Organized, and Navassa is the highest of the minor territories, with 279 foot Dunning Hill. Also, do you go to the conventions.

    • @RooftopsofAmerica
      @RooftopsofAmerica  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@emilyavidon2421 I have not been to a convention yet. The Rooftops crew was planning to go to the Konvention in Nevada this year and film Boundary Peak in the process. Unfortunately COVID throw all our plans out the window. Hopefully next year!

    if you come in from the harman side you can still see where the railroad beds was to haul the logs off the mountains
    though you wont find any track you will be able to see the beds
