I just started playing this game. This is an underrated gem of a game. Unique mechanics with the feints and t.o.p mode. The animation is amazing
I first played Garou via emulation. It came out during a weird time for Neo Geo. At the end of the Neo Geo's lifespan, emulation for it was nearly perfect. So, I did the wrong thing and downloaded Garou right around release. But when I found out it was comming out for Dreamcast, I went out and bought it! I was into a lot of SNK fighters, but Garou was the only one my friends thought was cool. While it didn't get as much play as MvC2 or CvS2, it certainly got some play! I still have the game in my closet!

Art of fighting 3 and Last Blade 2 and Mark of the Wolf 🐺 are the 3 games that are examples of the best sprite work SNK ever did.
This game is beautiful. I wish I could have played it in its days...

FYI, this is the only game that its called Garou(hungry wolf). Previous titles were called "Garou densetsu" which translates to Legend of the hungry wolf. Yes I'm being pedantic. :)

Garou is basically SNK SF3 and should have gotten as much attention and hype, but somehow didn't
Fatal Fury was lambasted as a Street Fighter in America clone when it was first released. It started the whole "SF Clone" thing. What most people don't know is, the original game director of SF (Takashi Nishiyama) was also the creator of FF; He left Capcom, joined SNK, then lead a team to build the FF franchise. I didn't gain momentum in the west, but slayed in South America.

I grew up in that era. The SF3 series didn't gain much traction until 3rd Strike. Because of that Garou was on the wayside. Besides that SNK over saturated the market of fighting games. It was difficult to gravitate to just one type of fighter when the company had damn near a hundred or so of Fighters for the MVS system
@@YJSho_Nuff_ 3rd Strike didn’t gain traction in the West either until Evo Moment 37. 3S was a dead game but then again while it was a “dead genre” all around, CvS2 and MvC2 were much more popping in comparison. MvC2 was pretty much the main game until SF4.
Of course Terry is not a ken of KOF! He's a ryu of KOF. Alongside with Kyo and Ryo. Iori, Andy and Robert are kens of KOF! =ъ
I wouldnt even say he' s the anything of KOF. He's the main character in his own series, Fatal Fury, aka Garou Densetsu in Japan. In KOF he fills the role of a guest character in a crossover game, representing again, Fatal Fury.

1:04:40 I would guess he is Chinese because he has a shoulder press and a lunging punch hop which are both reminiscent of a Chinese martial art based on linear but deadly strikes.
Tizoc is not canonical in all regions. He's still Griffon (or Griffonmask) in Japan, even in City of the Wolves.
I think people got salty because it's an actual fighting game, not just some random kusoge where anything can happen.
I thought Real Bout Fatal Fury 2 was a bit better. The only difference between the RBFF2 did not have the brake system but had the line switch.
RBFF2 Is amazing too, that game deserves way more attention. Really flashy visuals and the stage knockouts were rad too
I will always be amazed with the fact this runs in the same hardware as the very first Fatal Fury...

They cannot fuck the netcode up for city of the wolves. If it’s jank on launch, that game will be DOA.
KOF XV had a decent netcode so it should ve fine on that side, what they mustn't fuck up is the matchmaking system

After being into sf3 third strike for years i found the graphics quite a step down.
i mean literally everything ever made in pixelart is a step down from third strike so yeah
