Lovely tutorial. The colours look really nice together. I may use one or two of these ideas in my mindful watercolour journal and will be sure to tag you if I do. Thank you Rachel, your time and effort to make these videos is appreciated ❤
Love the exercises, so good for building skills. Some tips from a long-long-time watercolorist who’s taught wc for about 30 years “old school”, lol) : Use TWO water containers, one for cleaning brushes, the other for CLEAN water to wet paper, wet paints, etc. (dirty water = muddy colors) Why put the water on the left if you’re right-handed? Constantly going over the paper to get water to the palette, you’re bound to drip onto the painting… why risk it? Oil and water don’t mix. To test for dryness use to BACK of your hand/back of your fingers as the finger tips are loaded with oil, leaves little resistance fingerprints. The cooler the paper feels to the back of your hand, the more moisture there is /the wetter it is.
Hi Lou, thank for another lovely calming video, which is also really useful for those of use who are new to watercolours. I'm really enjoying these tutorials and the tips you give, so thank you again, and I'm looking forward to, hopefully, seeing more of them from you 😉 I hope you have a lovely weekend, best wishes, Jane 😊 x
Oh…My…Goodness…I could have watched that triangle page go on FOREVER! Lou, you are absolutely incredible! You must make prints of these and if you do/did they must sell like hotcakes! So very wonderful to watch. And I learned SO much! The perfect end to what started off as a very sad day. Thank you, Lou 🙏❤️✨🇨🇦💫 Edit: grammar
First of all, thank you!! This was precisely what I was looking for. I am a complete beginner and wanted to to practice with watcolours and brushes, but I didn't know where to start. This has been fun!! Thank you very, very much. P.s. Sorry for my English!!
i love this exercise, for me this is not about making perfect, but discovering what i like, i love the circles, but not the triangles, i agree these would be great on a card. thank you for sharing
Love these exercises for relaxing. I also like doing something like this when I’m exploring new paints or new color palette ideas. Can’t wait to play with it! Thank you!
I was just feeling a bit dispirited about my very inexact brush strokes when trying to do leaves . They look so easy on videos but to me they aren't. So after doing your mindful exercises and enjoying the amazing colours that emerge in the bleeds ,I am feeling much better
I will try the circley- ones tomorrow🌸had a hard day dealing with stuff, but I am calming down with the help from just watching your videos. Thank you so much for the exercises💚💚💚💚💚💚
Just buy tape intended for delicate surfaces from hardware paint section - painters washi tape by 3M and maybe Bear brand. The 3M mauve coloured tape brilliant. For narrower strips simply tape to cutting board and use ruler and cutting knife.
@@LouDavis Indeed! I gave two of these exercises a go. Not the best results. I used masking fluid to mask the triangles in the triangles exercise, which was difficult to remove; it took a long time. I’ll tag you if I upload them to Instagram 🙂.

Thanks so much 😊 I'm sorry you had a sad day but very glad these were able to cheer you up!
LOVE these simple, meditative exercises. Great fun, too!
If you heat the masking tape with a heat gun or hairdryer as you remove it doesn’t tear.
Thanks, very helpful!

Love these paintings. What a wonderful idea..well done
Stick your tape to your jeans first to remove some of the excess stickiness.
Good tip!
Also use a hairdryer or heat gun gently above the tape and it will loosen the glue 😊
