Be careful traveling with the Rare Beauty highlighter. For some reason, the formula is very delicate and shatters easily. I LOVE the Burnt Pepper blush!

Hi Julia! Just wanted to comment that getting an IUD taken out and a new one placed was not nearly as rough as getting the first one in, in my experience. Because you have expectations based on your first experience, I found it helpful to frame it as "one afternoon that is gonna suck" for a great 5 year trade off. I would also recommend that in addition to pain killers before hand, you ask your health care provider for a dose of lorazepam or other anti-anxiety med to help calm you down for the procedure. That certainly helped things go more smoothly on my end!

      @lorilaymon2783 ปีที่แล้ว +5

I came here to comment on this too. Getting your IUD removed is no big deal, unless the strings are gone. Then it gets more complicated, not going to lie. My strings weren’t visible, so that was my experience. But, even with that, it wasn’t very painful. I have a Mirena. I also didn’t know if I wanted to go through the pain of getting another inserted. But I decided that it was worth the trade off for the benefits. I had a new doc insert my current IUD. I told her my concerns based on my previous experience and she was very understanding and talked me through the entire procedure. She was honestly amazing and I didn’t feel anything. Don’t be afraid to talk to your doctor about your first experience and your fears. Like others have suggested they could prescribe something for anxiety. Being relaxed helps make it less painful too.

You're speaking the truth that the second go around is easier! I asked to skip the cervical block because it only elongates the procedure. But still, pain meds *before* the procedure is a must! It's criminal that it's not the standard! I get pain meds for something unrelated and it made the procedure really easy! It's also a good idea to add a benzodiazepine like alprazolam or Valium, as they can help relax the muscles and make things easier. Honestly it's insane that sedatives/adequate pain management/anesthesia isn't the norm. It's wholly unacceptable how women's pain is ignored. Everyone should fight for proper care, no one should have to do it unmedicated and the Tylenol they push on people is a terrible joke.

Agree! I have mirena and this is my second time having it, but after 2 kids it’s no big deal 😅 glad you have more time! In the grand scheme of things it is only a few minutes, practice deep breathing during and relaxing your pelvic floor, maybe put in headphones and a song too ❤

For your IUD, ask what pain management options they are able to do! My OBGYN offered to do the procedure with Valium to relax my muscles and some will use paracervical blockers to help with the pain. It’s always worth asking.
If not, the stick in the arm is just as effective and can be inserted after numbing. The pain similar to a rough shot. That lasts three years but is much less painful.

Girl I feel you on that IUD pain. I expected it, but I still almost blacked out. Everyone was really great about it though, they didn't need the room for any upcoming appts so they let me lay in there for as long as I needed, and it was about 45 mins. I got ice cream and went home to get in bed 😅But they're really effective, and I'm glad I got it. It's scary and painful, but temporary. I hope you can keep that in mind when you get yours swapped out, that it's only temporary!

Hey Julia, I also got my Kyleena IUD this year and I must say: I didn’t feel any pain while inserted. One big tip is to take some pain meds before the appointment. I took Ibuprofen and dafalgan (you can combine the two) an hour before insertion.
I only felt a little crampy feeling for like 2 seconds and that’s it. Also afterwards I had little cramps like period cramps but way lighter. So def recommend taking pain meds!

OMG! I feel ya about the IUD placement/removal. I told my GYN that mine will have to just rot inside me unless I can get anesthesia. I've only had one other experience that painful - an endometrial biopsy. During my last removal/replacement my arms had a mind of their own and my whole body was making these thrashing movements. Afterward, they left me in the darkened room but I quickly found myself in the bathroom throwing up. I actually have a relatively high pain tolerance. When I broke and dislocated my ankle, my first reaction was to actually set it myself, unsuccessfully of course.

The cramps have been decreasing in intensity over this period, but I think the main issue is that I already had horrible cramps before, and I've heard about other people who had them get worse before subduing.

They are often called full spectrum doulas if you want to find one in your area. A little bit of support can go a long way in reducing anxiety and pain. Hi. I've just had my IUD changed and a smear in the same app! Wasn't expecting that one. Like you, the anxiety was off the charts, however, it wasn't as bad. The doctor was so lovely and talked me through it all. This time, they even offered me a spray, which numbed my cervix. That wasn't offered when I had it first put in. I am in the UK, so I'm not sure if it's the same as Canada, but it's worth an ask. I have a tilted uterus, which also involuntarily contracts when stressed, so you can imagine my worry. All in all, wasn't as bad as I was expecting and I now have 6 years period free

Copper IUD experience from New Zealand here! (we have subsidised sexual health care thank fuck). I blacked out from the pain (and ptsd) getting my 5yr one, which also caused a lot of spontaneous cramping attacks for the first year. When it was time to remove it I made sure the clinic had pre-prescribed anxiolytics (e.g. benzodiazepines) and had a space for me to recover after emotionally and lie down with a hot water bottle.
When they removed it I got them to quickly whip in the 10yr one, which funnily enough has given me no problems at all! Dr said that's because it has shorter arms on the "T" with a longer stem, whether the 5 year one has longer arms that tend to cause more uterine irritation i.e. your uterus is like wtf is this foreign object poking into me I must cramp immediately to eject it.

Let me assure you of the IUD removal. It is much more painful to get it put in than taken out. There is no extra medication or prep needed for removal. I had mine removed like 2 months ago and I was an anxious mess. I'm taking a mini break from it atm but if you don't get another inserted in the same appointment it's quick. It was uncomfortable but no where near as much as the insertion. The whole appointment lasted 35-45 minutes with waiting and the whole removal process took about 5 minutes.

I got my first one after I had my son almost 15 years ago and had it removed after 10 years because it's the copper one without any hormones. I was also worried going in to get it removed but it was already done before I even knew it happened, removal is a lot easier than insertion. Also, I had another one put in after I had my almost 4yo daughter and everything has been good. Getting the IUD out was way less painful than getting it in! It was super painful to get it in, and I only had it for 10 months bc it didn't work out for me. I ended up having 15 day period cramps and bleeding every month, and no I didn't get copper I got hormonal one. I think they had put in a 7 year one. Anyway, it was a huge relief for me to get it out and the removal felt nothing like getting it in. I think maybe it wouldn't be as bad getting the second one in. Just wanted you to know that going out is not the same as going in, so it won't be twice as bad when you get it replaced eventually 😊

For me, getting it taken out was way less painful than getting my IUD put it. I had Mirena though

When i enquired about an IUD the GP said whatever you do go under to get it in and out ( its like 5 min under twighlight sedation)
They said the pain is unreal and to just do it in a clinic was barbaric 😮😮

The pain of me getting my Paragard IUD out was nothing compared to getting it inserted. You feel totally fine after. But for the insertion!! HOLY BAJEEZUS. I can’t believe I drove myself to the clinic on my insertion day. 🥴😵😵😵

Hi, Julia! I love all your videos. Would you consider doing a Barbie-inspired makeup look ahead of the movie coming out? Also, I'd love to see a little fashion content because I really enjoyed when you'd show your OOTD in your vlogs.

I thought my IUD replacement was easier than the initial IUD. it still hurts but hurts way less than that first IUD insertion

Having an IUD removed is a breeze, they tell you to cough and bam, it’s out. If you want a new one, ask your doc for medication that opens your cervix up a little, it makes insertion less painful.

They really need to start giving women pain meds during iud placement and removal. They can charge us we do not care to feel nothing! That pain is insane 😭

Girl getting your iud out is a breeze. I've gotten 2 out. Take an advil before just in case. And yes having it inserted SUCKS agreed. Cant believe I've had them inserted 3x now lol. But the one I have now is a 10 yr one amen to that

Getting an IUD is awful - I almost fainted in the waiting room when I went to get up and schedule my follow-up. I've heard that some doctors will do local anesthetic. Honestly, not giving women local anesthetic or something other than ibuprofen for the pain is pretty barbaric. I follow some docs on TikTok that discuss how horrific so much of women's medicine and care is. So that's my rec: try to find a doc that will give you some local numbing or pain relief instead of telling you "this is going to be a little pinch" before giving you a cup with 2 ibuprofen and sending you on your way.

do the implant instead of the IUD!!! i freaking hated the iud. i didnt like not being able to know if it was inserted wrong. i hated the pain. the implant is simlimar or the same hormones but it goes in your arm. i can feel the tiny little thing and know it’s where it needs to be. they numb the area so all you feel is a little shot. some people experience inconsistent bleeding for months and i KNOW that’s frustrating but YALL. then you’re good. you have it for years then you switch it out. your body is already adjusted to the hormones so you don’t experience the same adjustment period. it’s 99.99% effective and i like that i don’t have to count on the doctor having inserted it correctly because it’s just. in my arm. big big fan. at the same level of effectiveness as a vasectomy. and it’s consistent. no need to remember pills.

You should ask for a general anesthetic for your IUD! If the OB doesn’t offer it call around. Seriously we women have to advocate for ourselves and experiencing horrendous pain while getting an IUD is not acceptable.

  • @cjaneg97

You can advocate for actual pain meds for IUD removal and insertion. A lot of doctors will push back because they suck and they state of women's health is ridiculous but it is an option.
