eddie huang korea got influenced by china but they always put their own spin on chinese based things. Korea was also never a chinese vassal because they had their own empire, and the only two times they were apart of another empire was the mongols and the japanese.
I ate supper an hour ago and my mouth is watering while watching this. My local Asian market is awesome, but their instant noodles selection is surprisingly lame; ie Mama etc.
Tina Marie Farmer Haha, I used to do that all the time when I was a kid while my dad would cook. Crumbs would fall, and I would munch. Who am I kidding, I still do it. Just get the right brand, some even look toasted when dry (like certain Kung Fu and Tung I). Good memories.
I went to Taiwan and I had the non-hot version of the chili beef soup -- the one with the beef packet inside. We had never tried anything like it before and we were freaked out at first by the meat with broth packet, but they were so delicious! Very different to Japanese Instant Ramen, it has like a chinese spice to the broth and a thickness and oiliness to the soup that ramen doesn't have. I will say though that I did crave Japanese-style ramen a bit while in Taiwan, and that's extremely hard to find there-- I think most of the Instant noodle options at 7-11 etc are all Taiwanese style broth noodles with the chinese spice, but that said it is still delicious. It's neat to see these in videos, I described them to my friends and they didn't really 'get' what I meant.
You can buy #8 at many stores in Flushing. The soup is good if you don't add too much water, should be 80% of what it took to soak the noodle. The soup is a good palate cleanser between bites of noodles. Also #1 is just nostalgia. Foodies often vote with their emotions and nostalgia from childhood is a powerful emotion.
This stuff blows Top Ramen away. When I first saw one of his videos I didn't really like it. But I kept watching and this guy grew on me. His channels now one of my favorites. Keep the videos coming man!
nothing wrong with them, it's just that having a healthy balanced diet with less salt and preservatives would be better. And of course veggies and fruits. Nothing wrong with MSG either, you can look it up actually.
Yeah, I'm not sure why MSG gets such a bad reputation compared to salt and sugar. People seem to just be concerned about it when it comes to Asian food even though it's in potato chips and canned soups.
if there are any concerns for cancer, i am pretty certain it is the act of pouring boiling water into the styrofoam bowls which are lined with presumably BPA or some other form of poly carbon barrier. BPA is an estrogen mimic and over exposure to estrogen causes the telomeres of cancer cells to degenerate slower than normal. In other words, don't eat out of the styrfoam bowls, use a ceramic bowl
I tried the Wei Lih noodles for the first time yesterday and I thought the soup's mellow onion flavor actually paired quite well with the rather strong fermented flavor of the noodles. I also got a hold of the Uni-Pres chili beef noodles (the one with the beef packet) so I'm going to try those next :D
Don't see any of these on Amazon. Then again, maybe I'm not typing the names in correctly. I'm currently eating Vietnamese instant noodles, Mi Lau Thai Shrimp Flavor. Strong hits of lemongrass and spice.
Here it is on Amazon.. Seems to be out of stock though. Are there any 99 Ranch market near by? www.amazon.com/Instant-Noodles-JAH-JAN-Flavour-15-87oz/dp/B00PO9QJLG
they're on there sometimes. i've seen them on both amazon and ebay......haven't tried ordering them and getting them though. everyone in above comments are saying things about customs....that sucks :(
Jessie J Sorry, but that's incorrect. you're still thinking of the Sichuan peppercorns. the 麻 in the name is from the Chinese characters for sesame, 芝麻. this one doesn't numb.
I am not asian but i LOVE asian food, I use to love my ramen noodles but would buy from the "pasta/noodle" aisle and overlooked the ones in the asian but since watching ur videos has changed my thinking and loving my ramen experience these days and YES...spicy is best, I love my chilli but not as strong as you LOL. Garlic, gotta add it to everything and my father grows his own garlic and pickles them himself and puts that on rice cakes...with cream cheese
The thing with the last noodle (the snack one) is nostalgia. It's the "it" snack for kids growing up in the 80's and 90's, and it's still around. Thus the unfair win.
I have a love/hate relationship with your channel... Love because it’s enjoyable and the vid structure is just so dope along with the content you’re pushing. Hate because every damn time I watch I get all fricken hungry cuz the food looks so good.
#1 was childhood memories for me. my friends actually discovered this for ourselves when we had no hot water and we were starving. my friend suggests we just break it up with the flavoring mixed up and boom.
Basically any one of these that contains meat in retort pouches you won't be able to get here in the states. Though, his personal favorite one is widely available in the Asian markets like Ranch 99.
No trade agreement in place between Taiwan and the US to allow exported meat to be sold here in America. Incidentally there's another flavor in that Ramen series that contained chunks of roasted eels in the pouch that's sold in the stateside in pretty limited availability. Apparently fish is okay, just not meat.
Yep, I don't even know how he get through the custom. Maybe he just got lucky and nobody check his bags. I wouldn't even risk it to bring any instant noodle that has the word "meat" or picture on it.
I suspect it is not likely a customs officer will recognize x bowl noodle will have meat inside it. There is a chinese customs officer in London that all chinese hate as she knows the ins and outs of all the banned chinese food.
With the Wei Li, you're supposed to cook the seasoning with the noodles then pour the soup out, not mix them separately. The soup is much better and much less salty because some of the seasoning stays with the noodles. Also the ones with the meat in the packets, you're supposed to add them in after cooking the noodles. Not sure if it makes a difference, but that's what the instructions say ;o
I am from taiwan! BTW , in order to make the 維力炸醬麵 in it's best state. @We usually put meatball and celery in the soup @Also add a poached egg in the noodles / soup (2 eggs) would make that a perfect meal!
3:15 yep soup still sucks, but woah! lol Mike you crack me up bro. loved the vid. you and Dan and Yi need to do more Ramen vids. give ole Hans "the ramen rater" a run for his money
Hi Mikey based on ur review, I purchased the two u rated 9/10. The uni-President chilli beef flavor n the wei lih men...both in 5 packs. The chilli beef I got does not come in a bowl but I hope it comes with the beef n have the same taste. I got both on eBay from two different Taiwanese sellers with good feedbacks...$23.50 n $18.99 with free shipping. Should be arriving in another 2 weeks or so. Hope this info helps u when u run out...
The translation of ma you(麻油) is not numbing oil, it's sesame oil. And, for the ma you ji mian and hua diao ji mian, you put the sauce after fining cooking the noodles. while cooking the noodles, you also need to put the sauce pouch atop of the bowl to warm it up.
Hey Mike, video idea. See if you can get a hold of Chinese or Taiwanese or Korea military MRE meals and try them out. I've seen a bunch of MREs out there but rarely Asian ones.
did you really just say you want ice cream after the ice cream challenge you did, i didnt think you would be mentioning ice cream for a long time haha great video, cant wait to try me some of that chicken one you really liked, ive took a screen shot so i know what im looking for haha Thanks alot Mike for another great video
thank you for doing this video. i was actually wondering about that 來一客. Now, I know not to bother. The 炸醬麵 and統一肉燥麵 are usually available at 99 ranch's. Well, I know the one's in SoCal and here in WA does. Also, that instant beef noodle. I've seen it exactly once in America like back in 1998 or 1999 (yeah, that's how long I've been looking for them here.). I don't even remember exactly where. >.< It was a tiny, dirty, underground hong kong convenience store in chinatown in NY city (manhattan). I want to say Mott st., but I could be wrong. The only other thing I remember about that area was that there were a good amount of stories that sold... questionable branded electronics and toys. I haven't been back to NY since so I can't even say it still exists. None in SoCal, none here in WA either. For those with Taiwanese friends or people coming back from Taiwan , they sell them at the intl airport (tao yuan) as duty-free items on the way out. Oh yeah, from what my aunt tells me, those science noodles where the first instant noodles they ever saw. It was marketed as kind of a nasa-esque food. Kinda like astronaut ice cream. For my aunt's generation, it's more about nostalgia than flavor.
OMG, you are absolutely related to Jackie Chan ;o) Yes, I saw that video you made! I just have to say, I do not use the seasoning packets that come with most ramen soups here in the US. Usually they have tons of salt, but I do like ramen noodles. So I use sesame oil, rice wine vinegar, and left over roast chickens (that I make myself). The rice wine vinegar with the sesame oil, make the ramen taste super delicious!
Don't know why this popped up in my feed but I was really worried that you are going to eat it the wrong way with the science noodles, so very glad that you got it right! The 來一客 noodles are not as delicious as the others, however, they are one of the classics that had been around for a long time. People like it for the familiarity, not for how exotic it tastes. Instant noodles are sometimes a quick solution to satisfy hunger, and that will be the time to break out the more mundane ones that does it just right. Another thing to share is, the 來一客 is a sub brand from President, the food company. The original versions of those are in packets and I really think the noodles are different. They taste better from the packs and not the cups. Also, when I was a kid, the noodles were more greasy but five times more flavorful. I guess they went for a healthier way to cook them, it seems a bit flat nowadays. BTW since you really like the pork noodle, the same company sells the flavored pork in can form, in the same pinking-red color. If you can find it in your local Chinese grocery store, you can turn it into so many different dishes!
Darrell barron it’s not hot to him cos he’s not a wuss liek white People no racism yeh but White people just can’t take spice man if u think hot oil is spicy then u don’t know what spicy is
fire pantheress who u telling to gtfo stop getting bad behind a screen I said no racism I meant some white People of cos it’s known that white People can’t handle there spice that doesn’t mean I’m saying all white People so stfu
@@rayhankhan2040 right.. u want to try and push it on me now because u made a racist remark and u got called out on it. Stop being a racist, stop generalizing what specific race or races that can't tolerate spice. You come out looking like a complete nut job and a racist pos. Just because Mike is Asian doesn't make him immune to spice. People build up a tolerance to spice. So take your hate and go try to spew it somewhere else. Goodbye.
The 科學麵 is similar to how Malaysians eat Mamee noodles back then which transformed into an actual snack this recent decade haha. Definitely delicious, and supposedly was one of the best local instant noodle before Maggie became the norm
Came back to this video to check I got the correct noodles! There is a Taiwan Fair going on one of the Aeon Shopping Malls in Malaysia and yay! They have the dried Jajjang noodles and minced pork noodles!!! gonna get more next round! Thanks Mikey! Hope to see you in Singapore the next time you come again!
Some of them you can’t buy in the US as you can’t really import “real” meat chunks because of health hazard. Some of them you can just purchase at your local Chinese store, if not try the Japanese store.
omg yesss! I love wei li jajangmian, they're so good! but I prefer buying the sauce inside a big can, and cook my own fresh noodles and mix them together instead of eating the instant noodles. I feeling like sending a can of wei li sauce for you right now.
How do you get your hot oil so thick and red, I make mine as instructed in your hot oil video and mine never has looked like that. Mine just looks like oil with fried chilli in it, any suggestions.? Love your food eating videos, always amazed how much food you can eat. . . Love from the UK
I really want someone to make one of those dank meme edited videos of either this video or another one. Every time he eats he either moans or slaps something, I’m not trying to throw shade because I love watching Mikey, but his reactions are so funny.
I wouldnt get too excited about these noodles. My boyfriend told me that an article was released recently in taiwan that some ramen noodles were made with recycled oil. Be careful what you eat
You really inspire me to get to know more about asian Food please also do turorials and talk more about the ingredientes, watching your videos its like a whole world opening in front my eyes
Those are traditionally used in some chinese chicken recipes. And i guess instant noodles in asia often aspire to be luxury cuisine in their flavouring!
danpt2000 I understand what you are saying but in this case a few gojis will not sweeten it much. However, some of these herbal chicken recipes are sweet due to addition of red jujubes. Think of korean ginseng chicken. And in alot of chinese savoury cooking they do actually put a pinch of sugar in. My indian friend often complains that at chinese takeouts almost every dish is sweet to some extent as he doesn't take much sugar so he can really pick it up.
Totally agree. My mom makes this type of Chinese medicinal-herby chicken soup and it's the best. And I agree; I feel like in soups, Goji berries here actually have a stronger bitter-Chinese-medicine flavor/feel than sweet. I was actually surprising at the comment, since my experience with Goji berries is usually more bitter than sweet. (I've had the dried-then-soaked kind and the fresh ones.)
Literally had to pause this video and go make myself instant noodle 🤣 Tried one I haven’t eaten before, I wasn’t impressed unfortunately. BUT I really wanna try the last one in this video. Here in Norway we do the same as kids, eat them raw. But just like here, it has to be a certain kind. Awesome video, thanks for sharing
Hey Mike really did some research!! Even a lot of Taiwanese make mistakes by putting the wine in the beginning, and you know you should put it when you’re going to eat By the way, some noodles rank so high not because of taste. They rank so high because their taste is acceptable and the price is affordable. Every noodle you love cost at least 2 times than the one that Mike doesn’t like.
did this guy just eat like 8 instant noodles in one sitting damn
He didn't cuz I think he mentioned something like "last night"
Lien Nguyen he didn't totally finish 8, but mostly! 😂
Zha Jiang Mian is Chinese ,not korean ,korean copy Chinese everything ,
so in history ,korea is a China's vassal state , long long time~~~
same with Japan, that's why there's some Chinese characters in their writing, called kanji.
eddie huang korea got influenced by china but they always put their own spin on chinese based things. Korea was also never a chinese vassal because they had their own empire, and the only two times they were apart of another empire was the mongols and the japanese.
"It needs some hot oil to cut down on the fattiness." - Mike Chen, 2016
Mike should make a t-shirt.
We should start "Mike's Little Red Book" (red for hot oil) of his best quotes.
Mello Matt e
It was vinegar

dandhan87 agree😧
too much torture
dandhan87 it's 3 am here right now.. why tf am I watching this >_
I ate supper an hour ago and my mouth is watering while watching this. My local Asian market is awesome, but their instant noodles selection is surprisingly lame; ie Mama etc.
lick the screen man...
All those noodles look so delicious!! I can watch you eat all day
My kids ate uncooked ramen for years. I thought disgusting!! Finally I gave it.. sooo yummy!!!
Same, I love his personality
sunispretty i would to but ill get to hungry
I just hope you know that ramen is bad for u

Man we need more Ramen instant noodle brands in the usa. i want to make one using Louisiana ingredients.
Adam L Right on!
Jambalaya ramen! Laissez les bon temps rouler!
I wish I could read more of the ingredients on some of the ramen, I still try a lot of them but sometimes it would be nice to know what I'm eating 😜!
Good ole creole/Cajun ramen 🍜 got a nice ring to it !
See if there is an H Mart near you
I need to stop watching Mike's food videos late at night it makes me hungry. But I can't stop watching.
Same
I need to try these. Come on Amazon don't let me down.
Did they let you down?
I have a mildly close Chinese supermarket that probably has Instant noodles that are just as good
then come to Taiwan and try these 🤣
Adds oil to cut down on fat. xD
beat me to the comment lul
Yilun Chen I think it's the fact that it's hot oil so the
spice cancels out the fatiness
G
Supermun1234 haha thats not how it works man. he did add the pickled jalepeno, that makes sense
It makes more sense in Chinese. I'm pretty sure he means that the flavor is so rich and fatty that he needs the spice to balance it out.
You can buy #8 at many stores in Flushing. The soup is good if you don't add too much water, should be 80% of what it took to soak the noodle. Getting paid to sit infront a camera and eat food damn that's the life
He's so good at it though.
he even bought a house recently
😂
Must be nice
You got a like. Purely for the profile. Kevin.
Pro Tip: When ever u have a sauce packet, and there is still sauce on the inside(that u can’t push out). Fill it with water then add it in.
G E N I U S
you really just need to change your channel name to chilli oil enthusiast guy
skiie stictly hot oil
*chili enthusiast guy
Don't dis the Chilli oil my friend it's so addictively good. Use his recipe and put your own twist on it you won't be disappointed lol.
This stuff blows Top Ramen away. When I first saw one of his videos I didn't really like it. But I kept watching and this guy grew on me. His channels now one of my favorites. Keep the videos coming man!
The Taiwanese beef noodle soups are the best! I was also mind-blown when I first found them. Staring at my parents like "This is your usual ramen???"
Where did j buy it
when it comes to food videos in general you're definitely my favorite TH-camr
Yes, Taiwanese instant noodles rock! But I've heard some Taiwanese people say, "Don't eat them too often or you'll get cancer."
too much msg
nothing wrong with them, it's just that having a healthy balanced diet with less salt and preservatives would be better. And of course veggies and fruits. Nothing wrong with MSG either, you can look it up actually.
Arnold Arkar Moore very true👍🏻
Yeah, I'm not sure why MSG gets such a bad reputation compared to salt and sugar. People seem to just be concerned about it when it comes to Asian food even though it's in potato chips and canned soups.

The simple noodle ranked as number one is usually eaten dry as a school snack. You crunch it up, add the seasoning and just eat it with your fingers.
this makes me wonder... what is your blood pressure?
It's OVER 9000!!!!!
Ranen
burmesebeef hot oil pressure**
Yes
Yes
That was the most accurate scores I've seen.
Flavor description is awesome as always. I totally can feel like it was me eating them all. xD
I watched this video at 12am. Why I did this when I'm really hungry, I will never know. TORTURE
Probably better than maruchan chicken top ramen
everything is better than the maruchan top ramen nissin noodles.
all that salt from the beef package his blood pressures high
"I'm so filled with sodium, if I even looked at a snail, he might shrivel up and die!" Haha 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I laughed hard at that 😂😂

Check local Chinese grocery store
麻油 is not numbing oil it's sesame oil lol
Austen Chia Yeah I was questioning my half Chinese side if I got it wrong all these years LOL
Jessie J I see! Thanks for clearing that up :)
Jessie J oh I see
Austen Chia You were right 麻油 is not numbing oil it's sesame oil. Mike made a correction note at about 4:00.
BenD I can't seem to see it
I was so happy to find out u crushed the last one and not toss it in boiling water. I was ready to scream!
All 99 Ranch Markets in LA carry the Man-Han brand noodles, especially the chili beef ramen.
麻油 (Máyóu) is Sesame oil, not numbing oil...
hahaha that was goofy to me
krisst it's cause 麻 sounds like the 痲 in 痲痹, which means numbing. Maybe it was a joke...? Dunno. I'm sure he knows that 麻油 is sesame oil
Jessie J how is that safe to eat
Jessie J Sorry, but that's incorrect. you're still thinking of the Sichuan peppercorns. the 麻 in the name is from the Chinese characters for sesame, 芝麻. this one doesn't numb.

Haha it's not "numbing oil" - it's sesame oil. Super traditional Taiwanese chicken noodle soup!
Mike you are a master for getting all those past customs
Basically any one of these that contains meat in retort pouches you won't be able to get here in the states. Though, his personal favorite one is widely available in the Asian markets like Ranch 99.

other asian countries: So these are the top 20 best noodles from our list of 100
India: We got Maggi we got Yippee, what you want?
I always wait to watch these videos until I can eat ramen while watching. It’s the only way. 🍜 🥢
"...If I even look at a snail, its just going to shrivel up and die." Perfect description of how I felt just watching him eat those noodles.

Your ability to eat so much is amazing. You should try to do more food challenges. I enjoyed the pho & ice cream one you did. Thanks for the video.
Damn you for posting this before bed time... drool...
Haha, and why do your hands look black on the closeup shots? :)
ro pro camera exposure probably
it's the unseen cameraman.
ro pro probably just from the sun I'm from Taiwan and the radiation is very strong so when I go out for a long time my arms are darker
I add in a packet of tuna to my ramen, kicks up the taste of even the humblest of them.
Tin of Tuna + 20c packet of noodles = pure win
I've got two chicken legs and a bunch of breast meat, adding that to my Shin Ramyun ramen tonight :3
OMG, i added canned tuna in once and it was horrid. lol Spam however...
Try adding a spoonful of peanut butter to you chicken flavor ramen
Taiwan!!!
I think 麻油 is sesame oil... not numbing oil..
p.s your vids r amazing
麻痹油😂

Every time you mention hot oil, I smile. Goooooood stuff......
instant ramen is the best. wow a flavor pack with actual pieces of meat.
Since I’m Korean, hearing mike say “ban chan” is so funny😂😂
I'm so hungry now and it's bedtime, lol ! thanks, wish I could try some of those. :)
It's crazy how this video is making my mouth water! I love ramen, and would love to try any of those. So jealous of him right now. LOL
i swear you should get some type of sponsorship from hot oil manufacturer company.
I love hearing Mikey speak Chinese.
Takes me back to my childhood.
oh man a spicy one of those would be perfect cus its kinda cold here at home now
I live for ur instant ramen review s!

@@taurus7911 did u find em
why am I obsessed with these videos?
If you can find it in your local Chinese grocery store, you can turn it into so many different dishes!
how do you not fart toxic clouds with all the hot stuff you eat lol
Darrell barron it’s not hot to him cos he’s not a wuss liek white People no racism yeh but White people just can’t take spice man if u think hot oil is spicy then u don’t know what spicy is
@@rayhankhan2040 racist much dude?? Last time I checked there is no such as certain races can only take heat. Gtfo
fire pantheress who u telling to gtfo stop getting bad behind a screen I said no racism I meant some white People of cos it’s known that white People can’t handle there spice that doesn’t mean I’m saying all white People so stfu
Goodbye.
@@firepantheress9576 You're not helping.
I love your ramen taste test videos! I wish we have these in the US.
From now on. I'll make myself instand noodles before clicking on your video's😂
The 科學麵 is similar to how Malaysians eat Mamee noodles back then which transformed into an actual snack this recent decade haha. Definitely delicious, and supposedly was one of the best local instant noodle before Maggie became the norm
When you broke up the pack of ramen I was instantly taken back to my days in elementary school in So Cal.
Does someone have the english translations for these noodles? Does someone have a link to where i can buy them? I just want them so bad
Jimothy j wondering the same
Some of them you can’t buy in the US as you can’t really import “real” meat chunks because of health hazard. Some of them you can just purchase at your local Chinese store, if not try the Japanese store.
1. Weili Zha Jiang Mian 2. Hua Diao Mian
omg yesss! I love wei li jajangmian, they're so good! but I prefer buying the sauce inside a big can, and cook my own fresh noodles and mix them together instead of eating the instant noodles. I feeling like sending a can of wei li sauce for you right now.
I don't like those two flavors of 來一客 as well. but I think there's another 來一客 kimchi flavor is a lot more delicious!
Mmmmmm. Kimchi noodles.
I agree.
Your first reaction was classic lol, loving this Mike
How do you get your hot oil so thick and red, I make mine as instructed in your hot oil video and mine never has looked like that. Mine just looks like oil with fried chilli in it, any suggestions.? Love your food eating videos, always amazed how much food you can eat. . . Love from the UK
Thanks for great works in reviewing the best instant noodles for world viewers!. Well done.
排骨雞麵,肉骨茶麵,肉燥米粉 are some of my favorites.
Everybody gangsta until Mike don't likes the noodles.
Be careful what you eat
the beef ramen... I think #5 is sold in the 99 ranch market near my house
Lauren T. Really? I'm going to look!

you crave icecream really? i thought you won't touch icecream for atleast a year :p
You really inspire me to get to know more about asian Food please also do turorials and talk more about the ingredientes, watching your videos its like a whole world opening in front my eyes
5:06 Red Goji berries in Instant noodles?? Wow.
Those are traditionally used in some chinese chicken recipes. And i guess instant noodles in asia often aspire to be luxury cuisine in their flavouring!
theuglykwan but the thing is, gojis are sweet, while instant noodle flavor is generally salty. the two do not mix very well.
danpt2000 I understand what you are saying but in this case a few gojis will not sweeten it much.
Eh my aunt throws it in everything
After personally been to Taiwan... have to say that 7-11 in Taiwan's a heaven and the instant noodles in Taiwan's no joke!!!!!
I made Nong Shim Spicy Seafood ramen while watching so I wouldn't feel left out. Later I added some mirin. I'm hoping 99 Ranch has some of these.
MtnNerd Are you talking about Neoguri? Now THAT’S the stuff.
Can you try all the Korean and Japanese instant noodles?
I always like you because you are very funny sometimes and that makes the show even more interesting
Come to philadelphia..theres Chinese and korean supermarkets..that have thousands of different ramen and stuff....even kimchi ramens....good....
Hey Mike really did some research!! Even a lot of Taiwanese make mistakes by putting the wine in the beginning, and you know you should put it when you’re going to eat
By the way, some noodles rank so high not because of taste. They rank so high because their taste is acceptable and the price is affordable. Every noodle you love cost at least 2 times than the one that Mike doesn’t like.
Ohhh mike you're making me hungry and I just ate 😛 😋
That reaction 3:14 though :D "Wow! This is amazing! Holy Ramen this is good!.......Yep! The soup still sucks...:))))"
