Pedro's 1970 victory at the frightening old Spa was one of the great drives. There's some really scary b&w footage of him sideways through Raidillon at massive speed.

Fantastic to see this BRM again from one of my idols in motorsport, the Unforgettable Pedro Rodriguez. Congratulations to Gutiérrez for the honor and for choosing to race with a helmet like Pedro's. It makes the view from the car even more wonderful.
There is an interview with Graham Hill at Monaco later in his career, maybe his last attempt on the circuit and he explains all the gear changes and clutch work, and speed/breaking required for the race. I saw the interview years ago, it may have been part of another documentary, but Esteban's comments reminded me of the interview.
"The gearbox is completely manual, which is probably the most challenging part". We're living in a world were the newest generation of drivers have little to no experience using manual transmissions. Heck, I don't think it'll be much longer before the only people who even understand the concept of an H pattern will be limited to just historic racing.
also i believe it's quite different to drive a manual street car than a manual formula 1 car, having to make split second decisions to keep himself off the wall
@@Someguy1785 Yeah well if we’re talking about racing drivers, they already have that ability to make rapid decisions/ actions. My point is that many young racing drivers from Europe, Asia, Africa, and parts of South America will have driven (and likely raced) manual cars when they were younger and during their early career. Kinda like how Lando Norris drove a Mini Cooper as his first car. I doubt he would’ve resisted the urge to practice quick shifting and heel/toe in that thing. So referring to the original comment, there’ll definitely be a few more generations that’ll “understand the concept of H pattern” with an exception of North America and a few others.
I respect Pato Oward and Lando (even while I dislike Lando) as I´ve seen them on board the Ayrton McLaren at the Goodwood festival giving life to that car... As long as new driver generations maintain interest and actively seek oportunity to drive the older machines we have some hope. sadly racing for racing´s sake is a bit lost.

You mustn't be from Europe. Most people still use manual transmission in their road cars here.
