  • Classic 70's disphoric utopian vision of the future starring James Caan, John Houseman, John Beck, Maud Adams, Moses Gunn, Pamela Hensley, Sir Ralph Richardson. Directed by Norman Jewison from the William Harrison short story [Rollerball Murders]
In the year 2018 violence has been outlawed and corporations have replaced government as the ruling party following the demise of politics. With the absence of war or conflict, a forcibly passive population's bloodlust is satisfied by a brutal new sport known as Rollerball.
A high-octane melding of the outlawed sports of the past, the worldwide phenomenon of Rollerball has resulted in a corporate-backed sensation.
The most popular athlete in the world, Jonathan E. (James Caan) has steadily risen through the ranks to become a legendary veteran of the sport.
In this scene scored to the music 'Executive Party' & 'Executive Party Dance' by Andre Previn, features a young Patti Hammond, a year before she joins Ruby Flipper.
See if you can spot her, thanks to the wonderful Sue, for setting this 'spot the lady' competition.
DVD showing in High Quality MPEG2

Probably a poor editing choice. Looks like apple juice mixed with Seltzer

I always wonder exactly where this party took place. He lived outside of Houston. The backwoods of East Texas for this?

If it's the same scene where they go outside to shoot the gun it's probably somewhere east of the Missouri, Pennsylvannia maybe?

@@LandersWorkshopIt's a Houston based team. Jonathan lives outside of Houston. We can assume the team party was either in Houston or right outside of Houston. They walk outside from the party to shoot the gun. So why would that scene be anywhere close to Pennsylvania?

David Frost I know it’s pretty obvious being a native Texan, but apparently the filmmakers thought the audience would know the difference or much less care.

@@jondstewart Depends on the future I guess? They might have some places built like that specially for the executives in that timeline?

great film mostly a British cast too

Not hardly. The only main character you can argue was British is John Housman (born Jacques Haussmann), and that's a stretch. He was born in Hungary, educated in England, and then moved to the US at age 23 where he changed his name and started his acting career. All of the other main characters: Jonathan E, Ella, Moonpie, Cletus and Mackie were all played by non-British actors.
