I absolutely LOVE the Undaunted series. I own it all and I’m currently playing through the Stalingrad campaign with a buddy and having a blast. Sad to say but this implementation just isn’t grabbing me. Looks pretty rough around the edges. I sure hope it doesn’t turn anyone else off that hasn’t played yet because it’s an absolutely wonderful system. Maybe this can give new players just a taste and they grab the physical copies instead. Thanks for the great content! 😊

You're welcome! I hope I'm not one of the people put off by the implementation - I have mixed feelings about it so far. But I know the game system has lots of fans like yourself, so I'm willing to keep giving it a try!

Bought this a few days ago. I could not figure out the point of bolster. Seems counter productive. The tutorial is a little sparse and the card draw was dubious as well. At one point I had 4 FOW cards in my draw pile and two turns in a row I pulled all 4 FOW (the odds are pretty long of that). I'm going to go back and revisit but my first reaction to the game was meh. Good video.

Thank you for your comment! Bolster adds cards to your deck. If you recall, when your unit suffers a hit, a card is removed from the discard, your hand or your draw deck. Bolster adds more cards into the mix, which means your unit can absorb the more hits before being eliminated. As far as the tutorial goes, I was just walking through the digital tutorial provided by the digital version that is now in early access on Steam. And I can completely relate with the fog of war cards. I've had some terrible draws where you literally have to skip a turn because you have a mintful of fog of war cards. I've played the game a decent amount now, and I agree with you in that I don't see what all the hype is about.

The hype is that it is an easy system to learn but offers a lot of tactical decisions and great replay ability. It is a flexible system that can be adapted to other types of combat. It is introducing thousands of people to wargames who have never even played Axis and Allies, and seems to have a good number of women who love playing the game. To a hard core wargamer this is a very light system, but that is not who this game was intended for.

@@robertthurman9866 I get it. I was looking for something to play with non wargamers, but this one just seems overly basic. I can play board games with kids and have fun, like monopoly or life. They are simple games, but entertaining. This feels a little more like chutes and ladders to me.

A lot depends of who you are playing, someone at the same skill as yourself will make it more challenging. The series gets better each edition. North Africa added vehicles. Reinforcements added more and better play to both as well as more scenarios. Try Stalingrad with a friend. What it lacks in complexity it makes up for in detail. 15 branching linked scenarios. You have to carry what happens in the first scenario all the way through.

@@robertthurman9866 That all sounds good. As I stated in my original post, I havent explored it very deeply, but my first impression was a fairly poor reception. I'm not a big fan of games that start to paralyze you as the game progresses, I think it's a bit too gamey. I think games are considerably more interesting when you build up to more options and actions, not race to win before you are paralyzed completely. Another example of this is Gloomhaven, another highly praised game that I felt did not live up to the hype.

I can't figure out how to start/begin the game. I have clicked on every single thing I can think to click. Just trying to draw to play for initiative. What am I missing?

There are still some glitches. Are you playing against the AI? We've had some trouble playing against live opponents, where the cards don't show/load up

I am holding off for now on this one. I am not in love w/ the look of the implementation. I would prefer it appear more like the physical board game. The checkerboard border is hideous. Why not just continue the landscape & only have the tiles for the particular scenario highlighted....the rest of the landscape could be greyed out. That's how I've seen it done in other games & I much prefer that more realistic (imo) look. The way it is now, idk it kind of lends an amateurish look to the game for me. Thanks for the video!

Yes, one would hope that they will improve the graphics on this one as time goes on. As it is early access, there may be some plans in place to revise them. I like your suggestion about continuing the landscape.
