I cannot agree more! That is one of my family Sandy B movies. I also love “Speed” with Keanu Reeves. I wish i could upvote this comment many many times.
Really?! Omg, I actually love that! (not that you were attacked, of course, I hate that! :p) I've always felt that movies could have SUCH a power to be able to teach us actually useful things, and it irritates me to no end when they choose not to, in order to make it more cinematic. I understand it works sometimes, but generally speaking it ends up being more confusing. Love hearing you were able to protect yourself in that situation! (and really hope you never have to experience that again!)
My friend also got away from her attacker thanks to what she remembered from the movie. It was such a valuable lesson to teach all of us girls when we watched this as kids, and it's just as valuable today.
You are so right about her not just having a hunch. She was put in undercover to get the inside scoop. That’s exactly how women communicate… through girls night out and “slumber parties”. That’s how you get the dirt. What’s the point of having her undercover if they aren’t going to use her information?
Exactly! It's not as though she had been accusing Morningside since the beginning, and the boss/everyone else was tired of hearing it, this was all brand new info he basically just poopooed on for no real reason. Had she listened, the boss would have a dead scholarship winner on his hands, having prevented nothing, and being hella embarrassing the FBI. I almost wish we had seen him sheepishly apologize for not taking her information into account, now thinking about it :p
I watched this movie religiously as a kid, and I had a feeling I’d grow up and it would be a guilty pleasure. Turns out I was wrong. It’s legitimately in my top 5 favourite movies, I adore it!
Fun fact.. during the filming of this Michael caine got knighted, so the cast and crew started calling him SIR Micheal caine half way through filming. And also to make the fall look real as shes walking out after getting everything done, Micheal caine actually pushes her.
I Never noticed during the first meeting, the superimposition of the crown behind Kathy Morningside’s head before. Some next-level, true nature foreshadowing there.
It’s no wonder Hart gets so frustrated in this movie. She simultaneously gets sexualized by the people at her work and called ugly by everyone else. She doesn’t get to sleep for three days or eat anything but celery. I’d want to quit too. Sandra Bullock has so many good movies: The Proposal, Practical Magic, While You Were Sleeping.
7:59 Lamaze class is the breath training some moms go through to prepare for childbirth. So that woman was pregnant, hence the Lamaze pageant joke. Look at the shot framing at 10:22 for the tiara. The Devil Wears Prada has to be on the list in the future as well as another movie about fashion, but it's much deeper than that.
Fun facts: The scene with Gracie coming home after the restaurant op in the beginning was only scripted as "Gracie comes home and starts boxing." The rest (tripping, kicking the bed, microwave) was ad-libbed. The "I'm walking here!" line is spoken by Dustin Hoffman's character in Midnight Cowboy (1969). When Gracie walks off screen after she yells at the taxi driver, Michael Caine can be seen covering his mouth laughing at Sandra Bullock's ad-libbed "asshole" remark. Sandra Bullock and Benjamin Bratt did all of their own fighting. Stunt doubles were brought in only to make sure they were using proper form. The movie's theme song for the Miss USA Pageant was written by screenwriter Marc Lawrence and his 7 year old son, Clyde Lawrence. Marc wrote the lyrics and Clyde wrote the music. Beauty pageants have long been criticised for being old-fashioned and misogynistic. In 2018, after nearly 100 years of Miss America competitions, the swimsuit competition was dropped and essentially "stopped" rating women based on their physical appearance. There is also a lot more diversity as in race, religion, sexuality, gender identity and disability. It's still not my thing but it's good to see how they have evolved with time. And there is a sequel. It's not as good as this one but still worth watching. For more Sandra Bullock movies I recommend Speed of course if you haven't seen it and The Lake House with Keanu Reeves, While You Were Sleeping, The Net, 28 Days (with Viggo Mortensen aka Aragorn), Murder By Numbers (with Ryan Gosling), A Time To Kill (with Samuel L. Jackson, Matthew McConaughey etc.), Two Weeks Notice (with Hugh Grant & Heather Burns who plays Cheryl in Miss Congeniality), Practical Magic (with Nicole Kidman) and Hope Floats. She's been in so many good movies
Speed was Sandra's breakout role. If you haven't seen it, I definitely recommend it. It also stars Keanu Reeves, Dennis Hopper and Jeff Davis. For more of a rom-com, I recommend her in The Proposal with Ryan Reynolds and Betty White.
Fun fact - Miss Nebraska was a Top 10 semi-finalist at the 1989 Miss USA Pageant - Miss Arizona USA Leeanne Locken & Miss Ohio placed 3rd Runner-Up at the 1998 Miss USA Pageant - Miss Texas USA Holly Mills. The choreographer in the movie - Scott Grossman - was the actual choreographer at the Miss USA, Miss Universe & Miss Teen USA pageants in the 1990s and 2000s. At the above mentioned pageants, there is no talent competition. That is done at Miss America.
This movie is comedy gold the whole way through. One of my favorite movies and one of Sandra Bullocks best comedic roles. “ I’m Gliding Here!” Gets me every time.
My grandmother used to sing the "You think I'm gorgeous" song. I always think of her when I see this movie. She had a great sense of humor. I miss her.
I noticed someone mentioned "The Net". That was from before Sandra was really famous I think and I cannot recommend it enough. One of my absolute favorite movies of all time and a hidden gem! Not a rom-com but more of a suspense thriller. I also love While You Were Sleeping for another rom com and Practical Magic!
This is still my favorite Sandra Bullock movie. I would also highly recommend watching Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion. One of the most underrated comedies of all time.
Sandra Bullock’s physical comedy game is underrated. Heather Burns is freakin’ adorable. And.. Benjamin Bratt, what can I say about him ? "Vatos Locos Forever!"
One of the first movies I ever watched with my grandma, we would cackle and scream at how outrageously funny this movie is and now over 20 years later seeing it again just honestly made my eyes tear up a bit. We truly do grow up so fast. ❤
Love this movie! My favorite Sandra Bullock movie has to be While You Were Sleeping, with Bill Pullman and Peter Gallagher. It is so sweet and hilariously funny, centered on love, loneliness and family; just the most perfect holiday movie. I watch it at least once every holiday season. Would love to see you react to it, as we get closer to Christmas!! ❤
@@MsNanceePants Exactly! I was on my own at 18, about the time this movie came out. My dad kicked me out right before my birthday and Christmas, and then he moved away without leaving a phone number or forwarding address (it was super messed up). I rented a room in my much older coworker's house and had a difficult time working my way through school, but I did it. I'd get home from working as a grocery store checkout clerk and watch While You Were Sleeping on VHS, while I ate snacks in bed. The family in the movie reminded me of my boyfriend's family, and it always made me feel less lonely.
the SING montage always brings smiles to my face but also alot of laughs. this and the vintage womans self defense video where shes just tossing and flipping her husband around with so much class and elegance
I love Sandra Bullock! If you wanna see more of her I have a few favorites: While You Were Sleeping, The Net (not a rom-com, this is a suspense), 28 Days (also not a rom-com, this is a drama-dy about an addict in rehab), and a goofy older movie of hers is Love Potion No. 9. ~Caroline
Love Potion no. 9 was weird and felt a bit er..r4pey to me when I watched it a few months back. I dunno, it just felt creepy and consent didn't seem to be a thing.
11:34 - 11:39 More like the _Mia's_ makeover treatment. #ThePrincessDiaries (Even if..not really.Mia was _unrecognizable_ after the makeover 😱,she's...just Sandra Bullock with slightly less messy hair.)
Funny how the younger generation only see "Alfred" when the older generation sees the legendary, academy award-winning actor Michael Caine who's been in movies since 1964! 😎
'I'm gliding here' is a reference to 'I'm walking here' as uttered by Dustin Hoffman in Midnight Cowboy (1969). It is also referenced in Forrest Gump (1994), uttered by Gary Sinise.
A light, easy-going movie that has a nice message of acceptance of others different from you without laying it on too thick. The casting of Candice Bergen as the head of the pageant is a nice touch, since before she became a big star in film and of course on television as Murphy Brown she was a top model. Not quite the same thing as a beauty queen but she obviously could have been, she was ravishing in her youth. To your question about whether Sandra Bullock was famous before this film, the answer is yes. She’d been a big box office star since Speed in 1994 turned the trick for her and provided her breakout role. By the time this came out in 2000 she had a few other hits under her belt, the biggest of which was “While You Were Sleeping” (another fun rom/com if you haven’t seen it), but a fair share of indifferent movies as well. But this was another home run for her making a ton of dollars and leading to a sequel which is not nearly as good. The movie you were trying to think of when she said, “I’m gliding here!” is Midnight Cowboy where Dustin Hoffman as Ratso Rizzo screamed “I’m walkin’ here!!”. Now that’s a dark film!
I also quite like how this wasn’t a typical “ ugly woman turn’s beautiful” type thing. It was clear from everyone else that they thought she was attractive even before all that, and while that’s only partly why she was the one chosen to go undercover it’s still a part of it. The stylists didn’t do anything but clean her up and stick her in a dress and make-up. She also wasn’t magically perfect after her make over, her personality still over shot her ability to be the perfect cover of a pageant woman. It’s like Princess Diaries but with way better execution.
My family has this movie and this movie made me fall in love with Sandra! It’s my favorite movie is hers. I know all the words and also I have the second one and know all the words to that one. So happy your watching this
The actress playing Morningside is called Candice Bergen. She has a long CV as do Caine as well. But she is a middle-aged women without a big role in a super hero film.
I genuinely watched this movie like every chance I got as a kid. I’ve must have watched it like a 100 times. I loved movies in general and that was probably my #1 source of entertainment but Miss Congeniality had a special place in my heart.
Speed (1994) was the big breakout movie for Sandra Bullock (as well as Point Break (1991) and Speed being breakout roles for Keanu Reeves and especially as an action star).
Hey nick! If you are a Sandra bullock fan but want something with more depth I highly recommend 28 Days and The Blind Side. She actually won best lead actress for TBS and its a true story drama. Both very good and very different films
The Blind Side while it was a good movie, the family was not happy with the film because it lied about a bunch to turn it into a "Hollywood dramatization." A good film yes but not entirely a true story, I remember the main "son" was mad because the film made him look incredibly dumb. Forgive me I don't remember the character names, I saw it close to when it came out on DVD but them suing the film has been ongoing to this very day. I literally heard mention of the case a few weeks ago.
@@deadsetondreams1988Yeah, the so-called "true story" is really ugly. But completely unsurprising that rich people wanted to profit off him. I hope he gets what he is deserved and owed.
@@dawggirl They didn't profit from him, at least not as much as he is claiming. Their story was sold for $767,000 to a production company and he got his cut. Since the story was sold to the production company, neither he nor the Tuohys received any money from the book or movie sales that came after. So, even though the movie grossed over $300 million, they were not entitled to any of the money. That's the risk with selling your story, whether it makes a little or a lot, you don't see any additional money. Michael then got his own NFL contract and made millions of dollars. He is claiming that somehow he is owed a bunch of money from the movie and book sales, but that is not the case.
I've always loved Sandra, since The Net. She really did carry the movie. And for me Michael's performance in this movie is my favorite for him. This is one of those movies that I never NOT watch when it comes on or is available. Always makes me laugh, and always touches me.
"I'm walkin' hee-ah": Dustin Hoffman along with Jon Voigh from "Midnight Cowboy": th-cam.com/video/c412hqucHKw/w-d-xo.html (Hoffman's character is disabled, which is why he walks this way. "Midnight Cowboy" is a very good, but, for me, very disturbing movie, based on a similarly impressive but disturbing book. I've never laid eyes on either of them more than once).
@30:48 This is very true to this day. I know someone who works in the pageant industry and she always have stories about girls helping each behind the stage even if it's a tough competition.
I have bad chronic pain issues that keep me at home curled up on the couch most days, so I love watching your channel to help distract me with warm fuzzy nostalgia lol ♡ If you want another amazingly funny beauty pageant movie from the late 90s, Drop Dead Gorgeous is awesome and has a stacked cast! Kirsten Dunst, Denise Richards, Kirstie Alley, Allison Janney, Brittany Murphy and Amy Adams (I think this might have been her first major movie too) to name a few lol. One of my all time favorite movies that is sooo underrated! Another one not pageant related but still super funny, is Dick starring Kirsten Dunst and Michelle Williams (also has Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds so that's always a plus lol) that is about Nixon and Watergate - I think people really forget how many good and hilarious movies Kirsten did in the late 90s/early 00s. Shes one of my favorite actresses and she deserves so much more credit and notoriety ♡ I could go on but these 2 are top tier 😸
And Kathy Morningside is played by Candace Bergen, who was the central character in a long-running tv series, "Murphy Brown", where she played an opinionated, aggravating, but intelligent and passionate tv news reporter. It was a good show, with a great supporting cast, backed up by great writing for most of the seasons, and some inspired guest casting. Here's the very start of the series: th-cam.com/video/edJiokDp94A/w-d-xo.html
Amazing to think you've never watched a beauty pageant! Granted, I'm old enough to be your mother, but as a kid we would watch the Miss America Pageant every September (I think the first Saturday after Labor Day). Bathing suit, evening gown, talent show and short question/answer along with musical numbers to give them time to change outfits. It was stunning. Take a look at youtube for the late 1960's/early 70's (good one: 1968- [Sept 67 competition date]) to complete your education. 🙂
I really also enjoy The Heat, which stars Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy. Two of my all-time favorite movies are Galaxy Quest and Donnie Darko (theatrical version) if you have any interest in checking them out.
Good thing you watched this before a certain episode of a certain show you’re watching! 🤣 Also, I highly recommend rewatching this movie again with the commentary.
a nice counterpart to this is "Drop Dead Gorgeous" with Kirstie Alley (RIP), Alison Janney, and ELlen Barkin among others, but starring Denise Roberts and Kirsten Dunst in main roles. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
You probbaly wont see this but hey, just in case; Sanda Bullocks stand out performance (imo) is 28 Days and no one reacts to it, but I think once one reactor does, everyone else will follow because its a hidden gem that also stars Alan Tudyk in one of his best early comedic roles. Every line of his is quotable.
You should watch Miss Congeniality 2 and the movie BEAUTIFUL

I love the dichotomy between Sandra Bullock's character... She does a really good job doing the nerd/butch badass bitch... Then gets a MASSIVE GLAM UP when she does the pageant!!! She's like SMOKING FUCKING HOT in this after her makeover!!! Just a great movie overall...
This was, I think he third or fourth film, but first vehicle. She was also in Practical magic in the late 90's and was Keanu Reeves' and Jason Patric's co-star in Speed and Speed 2 respectively.
This is one of my favorite movies EVER, it spoke to me big time when I was growing up and I was a tomboy but rejected my feminine part and all that and this opened my eyes and lots of laughter of course. If I was an actress I think I'd be like her in a comedy sense.
I have always loved this movie! Never seen your channel before but I got recommended as a Sofie Reacts watcher. I will definitely check out some of your other vids, I love your vibe 😊
If you want to know the origin of her special talent, remember the scene where she is sitting with Michael Caine and makes that unpleasant high-pitched noise with the glass.
One of the best feel-good comedies. Loved your reaction. In terms of rom-coms you must react to Mr Right with Sam Rockwell and Anna Kendrick. It's an incredibly quirky and funny action rom-com - very unique and fast-paced. Totally rocks!
The Proposal with Sandra Bullock and Ryan Renolds is also very funny
He has reacted to that
Definitely not as funny as this one (in my opinion)
I cannot agree more! That is one of my family Sandy B movies. I also love “Speed” with Keanu Reeves. I wish i could upvote this comment many many times.
Really?! Guys cmon even the actors have talked about how that movie is hot garbage 😂
Facts but the true star of that movie is miss Betty.
I was attacked once from behind and it’s because of this movie I knew how to defend myself. ❤
Thats Amazing!
Really?! Omg, I actually love that! (not that you were attacked, of course, I hate that! :p)
I've always felt that movies could have SUCH a power to be able to teach us actually useful things, and it irritates me to no end when they choose not to, in order to make it more cinematic. I genuinely watched this movie like every chance I got as a kid. I’ve must have watched it like a 100 times. I loved movies in general and that was probably my #1 source of entertainment but Miss Congeniality had a special place in my heart.
1:02 You're right. Sandra's first real breakout roles were in 1994 (Speed) and 1995 (While You Were Sleeping) -- 5 or 6 years before this movie..
30:37 😂 when you're invested in the film
Definitely watch both please
I forgot how much I loved this movie! 🥳 Sandra Bullock really committed herself to the role. How about a reaction to The Lake House?
The movie The Heat with Sandra Bullock and Melissa Mc Carthy and I love the movie Speed.
I still sing that pageant theme song whenever I'm dressed terribly or do something clumsy. It's perfection lol
Another Sandra Bullock movie you might want to do, but wait for the Halloween/fall season, is Practical Magic.
Have you seen the movie Two Weeks Notice? I think it's hilarious! It stars Sandra Bullock and Hugh Grant.
Also, I highly recommend rewatching this movie again with the commentary.
This is one I watch every time it’s on tv.
This movie is funny, your comments made it even more fun!!! Loved the Friends mention! 😂Hi from Honduras!!❤
a nice counterpart to this is "Drop Dead Gorgeous" with Kirstie Alley (RIP), Alison Janney, and ELlen Barkin among others, but starring Denise Roberts and Kirsten Dunst in main roles.
Every line of his is quotable.
yes love that movie
William Shatner did some serious scene stealing here! 😂 love him!
If you haven’t watched it already, I recommend 28 Days starring Sandra Bullock. I don’t think many reactors have done that one.
If you liked Sandra Bullocks comedy skills, you would like 28 days!
Yes!
I know it is supposted to be a comedy but there were a lot of sad moments in that movie too.
I FREAKING love Sandra Bullock.
One of my faves❤
I have always loved this movie! Never seen your channel before but I got recommended as a Sofie Reacts watcher. I will definitely check out some of your other vids, I love your vibe 😊
Candice Bergen is an awesome actor - her years in Murphy Brown as the title role was amazing
I love this movie. It was my favorite movie as a teenager.
Looking forward to 13 going on 30. You've watched pretty much all my favs now 😂 I think 🤔 lol.
Cheers 🌷
Keep up the awesome work 🤩
This is one of my comfort movies!
This was the first dvd i ever bought myself.
YESSSSS OMG ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAV MOVIESSSSSSSSSS
The Russian at the beginning is "Lay on the floor. Quickly! On the floor"
every April 25th I have to remind myself to Be the Crown, Wear the Crown, You are the Crown
My fav movie ever!!!!!!💜💜💜💜
this movie is awesome! i remember i had it on VHS and would replay it often
Michael Caine is the best 😂
i’m ngl a diet is the one thing i refuse to do idc if ima die i wanna eat what i wanna eat. food is one of the few consistent pleasures of life
This just means that you have to react to "MISS CONGENIALITY 2"....It continued.
Gr8 reaction. 🙌🙌
