I'm thinking this behind the back seats and draped behind the driver seat would be not only lightweight but pretty effective. Maybe even stuffed into the door assemblies too, granted the windows still function.
@@joschmo6020 with it being Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene, it doesn't need to be tensioned. It is essentially very small sheets, it's own weight could keep it taught enough. Maybe a strap or velcro on it to keep it from moving around while the vehicle is in motion. But under a bullet impact, tension is semi irrelevant.
I got some of the level 4 plates from battle steel after watching his review of those. Best level 4 plates for the money hands down. DO NOT SLEEP ON BATTLE STEEL PRODUCTS.

Maybe a bigger niche than you think. There are hundreds of documented and unsolved random CAR SHOOTINGS on the high speed roads in the US every year. Open the armor plate up, slip it between your seat and the door...and you've got some very convenient protection.

I feel like body armor suffers from the same problems as suppressors used to have. People used to think all suppressors were whisper quiet. I think maybe everyone thinks body armor makes you an invincible tank if the bullet doesn't pass through the plate. It may stop the bullet but did it break 3 ribs in the process? I wish there was a way to test "ability to stay in the fight". If you are on the ground in agony and gasping for breathe, does it really matter it stopped the bullet if the bad guy can finish you off? I don't know any of the answers to this, I just wish there was more "is it really worth it in real life" discussions. Like what if the extra 12 lbs slows you down enough that you take a round that you otherwise wouldn't have if you were more agile?

Why would you not want to have a tool like this in a classroom if the situation warranted the need to protect children? Would you prefer no protection for kids? What's your solution?

Would have liked to see you try 223 and 556... just to confirm. Smaller, pointy, and faster means it's most likely zipping right through but it DID stop 5.7 haha
5.7 is a pretty bad round. Oxide did tests with it against older Russian armor that it was created to defeat and the results were abysmal for the round.
Why test it if not rated for 556. Buy the correct armor for the round, there's no going cheap on life saving item. If you've ever parachuted like some of us, you jump the correct chute and not go cheap.

The federal 5.7 40 gr is weak sauce. 1600-1650 fps. I wonder how it would do vs ss195 lf or ss198 lf @2100-2200 fps.

Basically it is sharper. Same mass in a smaller area. .3 inch vs .45 inch.
