The 'Rear Areas' event is not a card, but something that just happens. You lose 3 VP but you start getting +1 replacements and more support card draws.
Thanks! That confirms what I was noticing as I was editing the video too. I couldn’t see any other reason for the VP to drop right when it did. Good to know, thanks. :)
Yes, I realized that shortly after I posted this, but thanks for pointing it out. I do think that it makes more sense with limited resources to put them on units that are in danger of getting wiped out, though. I'm running out of replacements pretty quickly. It's dangerous out here. :)
Feels so good to lob the whole 4th at one region, doesn't it? If only you could sustain that level of intensity! This game seems to really address the choices that had to be made on the Eastern Front, don't you think? I have had a chance to play a couple scenarios and got wiped off the map so far Time to try playing as Soviets, I think. My ego can only handle so much defeat!
I read a comment somewhere that they might be tweaking the game balance still, that the Germans had an easier time of things in a late playtesting version. We'll see as things play out with this one, still early to tell.
I am currently trying to beat cauldrons of war-Stalingrad the company scenario where you have more or less the same map. Its fun to compare the different interpretations of the attack on the city. I recognize the objective area of this playthrough. I hope this will inspire to do better in cauldrons of war. SGS`s interpretation seems to be a great game nonetheless and the playthrough is great fun to watch. BTW Mamayev Kurgan is important in Cow.
Pushing them back nicely. Are you finding this more challenging than the Okinawa scenario you played on the channel a while back? It seems harder to break through, although that might be my memory!
I think it's hard to say this early in the game. I will say it's been easier taking parts of the city than I imagined, but I don't have a good sense yet for how far we should be and how much harder it's going to get when the Russians start getting more reinforcements. We'll see how it progresses over the next couple of episodes. Those strongpoints could be really time-consuming and bloody too. :)
That blood red color pallet is quite disturbing. Lets test 'Zill's Stalingrad knowledge. What Soviet division was wiped out within 24 hours of arriving in Stalingrad?
I'm not looking this up, and have very little faith that I'm getting it right. I have in my head is was something with an 8 in it? 8th Guards? 80th Guards? I'm probably totally wrong.
Yeah, the VP was at 17 as it was showing you that one card, so it had already been deducted before you clicked it away. Then it went to 16, since it knew it was taking that southernmost area. You got that back and went to 17, and sometime during the final Russian turn, you had 18 VP but they moved and it went back to 17? So they either took back a single area or contested one or something? But yeah, that seems to be the big decision point (when it IS optional): how to spend the VPs on cards to get the most bang for them. (And the Soviets went down to 18 VP so they may have spent 2!)
Yes, it would be nice if the score clarified how it was tallied (or maybe I'm missing that part somewhere, I'll poke around). Also, it'd be nice if scoring changes were clear too. I mean, I'm sure we'll figure it out, and it's probably in the rules, but it'd be nice if the scoring changes had something flash on screen as to why they happened.
Very interesting so far and you appear to e pushing the Russians back. Will it get worse as you head into winter with the opposition start sending troops across the frozen Volga? Very enjoyable & looking forward to future battles.
The scenario intro mentions that the Russians get stronger as the campaign progresses, so I expect that we'll see the going get tougher. I wonder if they will send troops across the river to attack, yes. I think it ends in early December, so maybe the river won't freeze by then?
Hmmm. Good question. I confess, the German high command didn't think of that. :) I'll see if that's possible next turn. That'd be nice to take them out, or at least knock them down a peg or two.

Reinforcements do not always put an unit to max, keep that in mind more elit units only heal 1 or two strength per reinforcement

@@ZillaBlitz Another reason I like SGS so much - they're very responsive to feedback.

Awesome, thanks for sharing! And good luck with the Cauldrons! I'm liking the campaign quite a bit so far. :)

Totally nailed it! :)

Who's this Angela Blitz I see in CC mode?
Haha! Angela Blitz is a good one. Someone was saying it comes up as Phillip Blitz too. :)
Peace is not an option
That's for sure, yes. :)
