In this video, watch as the highly energetic gorilla Mosi persistently challenges the silverback gorilla Lomako. Despite Lomako’s efforts to control himself and avoid conflict-aware that his baby son is in the room-the situation eventually escalates.
Female gorilla Nala plays a crucial role throughout, actively intervening to prevent the situation from worsening. In a dramatic turn, Nala steps in to protect Mosi and confronts the dominant Lomako.

There is one blatantly obvious problem here...the gorillas are large, very intelligent and active animals in a very confined space. It looks to me like the younger male was trying to get the silverback to play with him, not being aggressive, and when the silverback reacted, there wasn't enough space for the younger gorilla to get away from him without running right into another gorilla. I can't even imagine how stressful those close confines must be for them at times. Imagine yourself stuck in a room with 2 fully grown adults, 2 teenagers and a baby with a non-stop parade of noisy people walking past, staring at you, smacking the glass, etc. There is no 'personal space' at all for them. I think that it's more incredible to see how amazingly well these gorillas get along than to see an occasional outburst of frustration they might have.

YES. I watch the D’Jeeco group in Taipei most of the time. I never feel stressed. It’s a young family (5) and their habitat is tranquil. They also have a local small deer like creature that they treat like a pet. The two year old male gorillas (2) tumble and play everyday. The two females sometimes argue. Check it out if you haven’t discovered this family. It’s ideal for being in captivity. ❤D’Jeeco, Tayari, Iriki, Jabali and the baby Ringo. I watch all gorilla videos around the world but Taiwan got it right this time.

Their indoor space is indeed limited, and they sometimes go outside to play. While everything was happening indoors, Zola and Loango were outside and didn’t participate. Lomako stayed indoors to keep a close watch on his baby son, which is why he didn’t go outside. However, Mosi was very excited that day and kept chasing Lomako.

@@AllThingsGorilla While gorillas are very familial and clearly are devoted to each other in their groups, it's just as evident that each of them demands their own space and equally respects the space of each other. In this, the zoo fails them. They need more space.

It's impressive how agile and quick Lomako is jumping from log (not sure what else to call it) to the other, considering his weight and size. He was very restrained under the circumstances. He didn't technically suppress Mosi, but that hand on the back of Mosi's head felt like a "calm down, pack it in" type of conversation between the two. Dalila was smart enough to get herself and Makongo to safety, it appeared she went into a back room. Are they the sleeping quarters? Also it was nice to see the staff were paying attention to the family's behavior as that door opened and closed pretty sharply. Thank you again for sharing this video. 💖💖🦍

Lomako kept avoiding Mosi's mischief, but in the end, he used his strength to successfully subdue Mosi. The zookeeper was also keeping an eye on them, and when they saw Dalila wanted to leave, they immediately opened the door. @@AllThingsGorilla I felt somewhat sorry for Lomako, I think he's trying really hard to show Dalila that he's calm and can safely be around her and Makongo and Mosi spoilt that to a degree. I thought it was interesting that after Mosi had calmed down. Dad just sat quietly watching the door they went through. Dalila is smart, she'll let him get close to Makongo, but Makongo just needs to be a bit bigger.

The castration decision was made by the EAZA, and the zoo is simply carrying out those instructions.
