‘Chimp Crazy’ Star Admits She Faked Chimp’s Death

- America is going bananas over HBO’s new hit docuseries, “Chimp Crazy.” The series follows Tonia Haddix’s efforts at hiding Tonka the chimp from authorities after a judge ordered that the animal be turned over to an animal sanctuary. She hid Tonka in the basement of her home until the U.S. Marshals, acting on an anonymous tip, swarmed her home and seized Tonka. Haddix believes the filmmakers behind “Chimp Crazy” tipped off the authorities to create drama for the documentary. Inside Edition’s Lisa Guerrero has more.
If she cares about these chimps, Why didn't she open her own sanctuary. It's crazy that she thought that space was better than a sanctuary.
Yeah that's what I was thinking, the one thing about Tiger King they were animal sanctuaries for the tigers although that's what we see on the outside but it's still a tiger sanctuary.... I haven't watched Tiger King yet I can't watch Chimp Crazy because I don't have HBO, but I have seen Joe exotic's Sanctuary because of Ghost Adventures, it's for the best Tonka be there then with the lady.
Watch that documentary first and then start asking questions.

There aren't a lot of animal rights laws sadly. Since she isn't in jail she could easily get more exotic animals and treat them the same way.
She just wants her own permanent baby to take care of, despite the harm it poses on the animal.
all pet primate owners say that, when they lose their pet, "Oh, they ripped him from the only home he's ever known and the only mother he's ever known" like they weren't ripped from their original and only home and mother they knew before they "Rescued them" as well!!

It was embarrassing! By the time that scene rolled along it was perfectly clear something fishy was going on....she's a s*** liar and an even worse 'actress'.

How about when the judge caught her going from her fake meltdown to normal and reminded her that her mic was still on ahahaha. That was gold.

This whole thing made me uncomfortable. This (to me) comes off like straight animal abuse. However, these filmakers were also ruthless and lacked humility. They came in, manipulated and exploited them, then reported it for exposure, excitement, and money. Reporting it, yeah of course, makes sense! But doing so then filming and selling it, takes a unique person.
Tbf, I can't say I feel bad for her.
The one who exploited animals ended up being exploited and exposed for her misdeeds.

Like that one guy Chris he actually had teeth and they told him that it would be best if he took them out and he didn't like to walk around without a shirt on they told him that he should take his shirt off cuz he would look better without his teeth and his shirt on.

This breaks my heart the way Tonka was treated at the hands of that woman. I'm glad that Tonka got out of there and is now safe and far away from her.

It's still animal abuse. A basement is no place for a chimpanzee or any animals. They wife open spaces and clean outdoor air and other chimps to interact with. Keeping him in there isolated and alone in a dank basement with no grass, air and other chimps might've made him depressed.
I have mixed feelings about PETA sometimes, but what they and Alan did is magnificent! They gave that beautiful animal a chance at freedom.

Poor woman. I'm sure she really does love Tonka, but she has to understand that is not a natural habitat for that type of animal. He deserves to be free and with his kind so he can live a normal life. Add to that the fact that if anything ever happened to him or he fell ill, how was he going to receive medical help if he is hidden away? I do believe she should be permitted visits though given no matter what the circumstances were, he was not being abused and he was truly loved.

If she thinks that she’s his mom then she sounds like one of those mom’s who have unhealthy attachments to their kids and freak out when their child tries to get married or live outside the home. Sure they took him away from the only mom he knew but maybe he’s super grateful for that.

Those basement cages remind me of a story I seen on I think the Dr. Phil show, about these kids that were being locked up by their foster parents or adoptive parents?... I can't remember which... anyways the rooms/cages these monsters kept the kids in were almost exactly like Tonka's cage! The same bright primary colors, and everything.

Seriously? Hiding him in a basement? That’s not love, that is cruelty. These animals need space and sunlight and fresh air. They need to be able to climb and most importantly they need enrichment to keep their minds busy.

Part of loving an animal is not wanting to see it in animal jail. Anything that has to be kept behind bars or in a locked basement isn’t a “kid” or a “pet”, and love is no substitute for habitat.
if you love an animal you do what’s best for it not hide it and put it in a small space the poor animal is going back and forth because it’s stressed she is selfish that animal deserves freedom to be in a place with other animals

I am so happy for Tonka. They had him locked up in a cage alone even before PETA got involved. He is living his best life now. All this woman cared about was how she felt about the chimp, not about his quality of life. She may miss Tonka but it is doubtful that he misses her at all.
There is no basis for that. This is an indoor animal that's only been socialized by humans that's got no social skills with other chimps.
If she wanted to save him, why didn't she brought him to a sanctuary herself instead of putting him in a cage in the basement??? Love is also letting go... Seems to me SHE WANTS someone that she think will never leave her. That's just selfish, not love.
