    Impressive how calm you were. There's other channels talkin about how "you'll lose your religion" trying to get that top bolt out and go to unnecessary extremes like using an air chisel to destroy the entire housing. Thanks, for sharing this content! 👊

    Thank you so much! 2007 F 150 4.2l v6 manual. Replaced battery two months ago. Last two days it took a extra second to start , then two , three and finally click click click. Cleaned post , checked battery and cables up top. Checking the starter and find that it's extremely loose, and lots of oil. Tightened it up as much as I could with no tools on me(at the house.... Figures). After messing with wires, tried to start but still nothing. Turned on lights, tried again, no dim. Messed with wires again, same thing. It gets further, almost turning over, and each time after that less and less until nothing. I went through so many vids, but this one gave more information and explanation towards what I needed to know. Thank you again.

    Been a big fan of your E-laborate E-Bike channel! Got stuck the other day at the beach and had to get towed home F150 2005. I am now in the driveway and so thankfully found your GOLDEN how to, change the starter. Tool list and NAPA time. Hopefully more E bike fixes then F150 fixes. My man THANK-You again and AGAIN!! sub, commented, might have to share on FB

    The first step in replacing a starter on a 20 year old Ford truck that has snowy winters is to coat everything in PB Blaster, then come back the next day to work on it. Soaking everything in penetrating oil overnight will help you not have to fight so hard to loosen stuff.

  • @indykurt
    @indykurt 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Boy youd think an engineer would know bolts facing forward right behind the wheel would catch all the crud and salt. Glad you was able to get to the top bolt on your truck. My exhaust is 1/2in away and it is literally impossible to touch the top bolt with even a finger. Ive watched 5 vids now and no one has the limitations I have. I have stabbed at the bolt looking for it with the ratchet for 1.5hrs with no luck or no clue if I’ve even touched the bolt with the socket. Im gonnahave to drop the exhaust if I cant get lucky. At this point I might as well be working on a Chevy. Heck the only difference between American trucks are cosmetic at this point. Dodge actually looks the best but only an ignorant would by a gasoline dodge for long term, you gotta unload them before 90K if you dont want to pay 6K for a transmission & install. Weird they only had the same problem for 20yrs and ppl keep buying them.
    Update, take the 2 easy ones out, pry the damn thing off, breaking the ear on the starter. remove the last bolt and remaining piece, tape a small socket & 6 inch extension to the top of the new starter with the bolt partly in the hole, set the new starter up and attach ratchet to extension and run it in.
    That was my plan and should work for 99% of you. for me I was vindicated when the starter wouldn't slide into place because the extension was hitting the bolt that held the motor mount. There was NO way you can remove my starter without removing the motor mount!!! I only have 2 bolts in place, if that doesn't work out then I will have to buy a new starter, lift the motor then remove the motor mounts. maybe the mount is worn out... but is measures the same as the other side. Fk Ford!

    • @JeremiahMcintosh
      @JeremiahMcintosh  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep unfortunately with most things they don’t make them to last for sure. In the process of getting rid of my truck because the frame is rotted out! I’ll be fluid filming the next one every year!

    • @indykurt
      @indykurt 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JeremiahMcintosh I have one that has bad frame rot also, I didn't notice it being bad when I bought it but it got really bad fast. • @JeremiahMcintosh
      @JeremiahMcintosh  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Same here. It seemed to happen all of a sudden because it rotted from the inside out. Next time I’m gonna use fluid film and spray inside the box frame as well as the outside.

    The original Ford starter on my 97 7.3PS lasted 15 years. All the after market remanufactured replacements are only lasting a couple years. Many times the rebuild shops dont replace all the wear parts if it tests good leading to short lives usually from premature bearing or bushing failure.

    You must mean R-134A refrigerant in your video.
    Freon 12 has been discontinued and is not legal to make because it's a chlorofluorocarbon.
    The R-134A refrigerant is different , as a hydroflurocarbon it has a different molecular structure and the two refrigerants don't mix or allow connection of fittings.
    If you find Freon 12 somewhere, there are vintage and classic car people who would buy it up.
    I have to bet you fight corrosion on connections and new parts you install by coating them with dielectric after installing and their connection is made.
    Funny how the part store didn't test your starter to find it had no problem.
    They probably understand you suffer greatly gaining access to that upper bolt.
    You didn't break it removing it, that's lucky.
    If you have to break it to remove it, the core value probably won't come into it when you buy a lifetime replacement.
    I've heard of guys welding metal to the upper bolt to get it accessible in their future attempts.
    Nice job though.

    • @JeremiahMcintosh
      @JeremiahMcintosh  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha I did mean R-134A. Didn’t even realize I said that and thanks for the tip on the dielectric grease.
