I am still using the original Elemnt and don't plan on replacing it until the next version of the Roam which I hope occurs in late 2022. If my Elemnt malfunctions then I will reluctantly have to purchase the current Roam. Enjoyed this review and found the presentation entertaining.
Amazing review. You show the real differences. Did not see so great comparison in any other video. Thanks mate! Will go for the Bolt V2 for the colors on the data fields - super helpful.
Good review. I have both the original bolt and the roam. I'm considering the bolt V2 for a couple of reasons: 1) the buttons. Yes, I'm one of those who hated the recessed buttons on the roam, i find them small and hard to press and on some of the aftermarket mounts made of composite (which can be quite flexy) it makes the whole thing bend like a noodle when you try to hit the page button and such (especially with gloves). 2) the USB-C charging port. I'm also one of those that back to back monster rides and sleeps on the side of the road sometimes, and the ability to charge faster is a welcomed upgrade. Plus micro USB feels much more fragile and when you often charge on the bike with all the vibration, the robustness of USB-C is appreciated. To reach their own, right!
Trying to move away from 2 smartphone 3 power pack set up 😃, I just bought v2 bolt on your recommendation , now I'm on this vid day after to double check If the roam is better 🤪 i think I made a good decision , USB c , big buttons, good all day battery life and komoot friendly, now to get bike packing again 👍thanks good vids
Nice review. My challenge is eyesight! As I get older my eyesight is deteriorating by about 0.25 each eye test. I only need reading glasses. And don’t like the reduced fields view. So I may consider moving to roam from bolt.
I love my bolt V1. The simplicity caused me to recommend it for my father-in-law who isn't very tech savvy. He got the V2 and likes it so far. The bright sunlight visibility is second to none.
@@JitinMisra I had no trouble reading it. He has much worse eyes than I do so he simply zoomed in to the point where only 4 data fields are showing and can read that. Keep in mind, he's the type of guy who has his phone don't set nearly all the way up.
Immediately smashed the like and subscribe buttons after finishing the video. Hope that would please your missus. Honestly, really like your reviews and the way you deliver. Thank you.
Love your detailed and Punchy review! :-) You're really helping me picking out my first positive and reliable cycling GPS device, praying my experience will be the same.... Nonetheless, Wahoo certainly gets my *Bam. Root. Root.* with its USB- C charging. This frankly squashes some of the ubiquitous Garmin devices that came out recently. What year are we in now?
After I attached to your unique style of video making I found that really, really funny :-D Thank you so much for that video, because it also really helped me make a decision on the Roam/Boltv2 question. It was therefore so hard, because at this moment at least at my country (Germany) Amazon sells the Roam vor 280 euro, but the Bolt vor 265. Now, after your video and a little bit of thinking, also reading some more on the internet, I just ordered my first bike pc: The Bolt v2
The USB-C charging port cannot communicate via the USB-PD protocol. You can't charge the thing with a USB-C to USB-C cable directly from a USB-PD compliant USB-C power bank or charger. You either have to add an adaptor to one end or use a USB-C to USB-A cable. So why add USB-C if you can't even charge natively via USB-C PD? Stupid.
Any headway with the elevation feature of the v2 version? "While every man prefers their version of chunky" You are kill'n me. Good review. Just picked up the Bolt v2.
Just bought Roam. I do tours. I am about navigation I need a tutorial on building a route with Ride W/ GPS or Kamoot And then how to get that rourte on to my Roam
You do have affiliate links and you did put a disclaimer in the beginning to say you’re a massive fan so I’m not sure why I was expecting an unbiased review. But it would’ve been good to hear you talk about some of the issues as well if the bolt v2 or go in depth about route navigation etc. because I’ve had some pretty terrible experiences using it, including ending up on a *very* busy junction and a dangerous situation thanks to a really crappy route navigation of the v2. App integration with the device is *not* flawless, please don’t be fooled!
The software on my original Bolt has become messy around uploading rides to Strava. I suspect this is a conspiracy by Wahoo to get people to upgrade to the V2. I think i will. The colour display is a plus
Very nice review @Sportive Cyclist, one of the few that really help you making decision. I know it is primary made for cycling, still I plan to use such on motorbike also (accepting limitations for this), can you judge if the larger Roam would be the better choice for that?
I've already sold my ELEMNT and the person who bought it was very satisfied with the features I showed... Now I've seen a lot of bike tech reviews and it's amazing that everyone comments the same as I do, the wahoo equipment and app are amazing and the only feature that is missing and everyone asks is the equivalent to climbre pro from garmin. I don't think it should go out until they launch the new roam, because does roam have the capacity for this application? It's the only explanation for why this happens. Wahoo make the best and most intuitive application and you can't find something that all brands managed to do for their best equipment? I think Roam must not have ROM memory capacity and as it is the brand's flagship, they cannot put an application on Bolt and not on Roam and I understand that. I loved the Wahoo experience, I only speak well of the brand but I think change brand that I may have a worse experience but they have a feature that will help me improve where I am worse.
Thank you very much for the review. Thanks to you I now know to choose the Bolt over the Roam in the world of Wahoo. As a first time buyer of a cycling computer I’m still struggling with the whole Wahoo versus Garmin choice. Do I go with the Bolt or do I go with the 530/830? I really need help getting off this Wahoo/Garmin fence.
If you’re a first time bike computer buyer and you’re not already wedded to the Garmin ecosystem (and you have a smartphone!) I’d recommend the Wahoo ELEMNT BOLT. I like both devices but I ❤️ the BOLT. There is a blog post comparison on my website which I’ll soon release as a video if you want to check it out.
@@Sportivecyclist which power meter do you recommend to go with the element bolt? I am a first time bike computer and power meter buyer. Do you recommend buying both simultaneously? Thanks in advance!
First of all, sorry that I don't know much about English. I currently have a Wahoo ELEMNT MINI, but it does not have GPS and I always have to go with the phone. I had thought about buying the Wahoo ELEMNT BOLT v2, because I like the way the Wahoo work, but I was hesitating with the Garmin. Garmin is not completely unknown to me, since I have a trekking GPS, the Oregon 700. The only thing that catches my attention about the Garmin is the ClimbPro function, although as you say, the route has to be previously loaded, otherwise It is, we couldn't see the slope of the road. Do you know if the Wahoo ELEMNT BOLT v2 has an option or function that tells us the slope of the road? Thank you.
Your English is fine 😀. The ELEMNT BOLT v2 (like the original BOLT) will show the elevation profile of your route, so you can see all the climbs. It doesn't show the same detail as the Garmin Climbpro feature, where the Garmin has a page for each climb that it identifies on your route and then uses colour to show how steep each section of a climb is. However, if you zoom in on the BOLT's Elevation screen, you can see approximately how steep it is at any point on the climb. I *do* like the ClimbPro feature on the Garmin - it would be great if Wahoo would do something similar - but I can manage without it on the BOLT.
@@Sportivecyclist First your humor is awesome. I don't care what people say. Quite witty. So I watched your video AFTER I returned the roam. Hi, stomped upon this video, looking for a specific detail about the alert sounds of Wahoo devices. I have an original ELEMNT(2016) that is dying on me. One issue I have is that the alert sound is very low; I compared it with my wife’s BOLTv1 which is way louder while comparing the 2 units. I could hear the sound made by the BOLTv2 and the ROAM in this video, but sometime mic placement can give the a false perception on the loudness. Have you ever compared the 4 units according to the loudness of each devices?

On Wahoos, if you’re following a route you can display as data fields both distance to go on the route and distance to the next cue point. Distance remaining and distance to turn data are both also shown on the cue sheet page.
Is the screen on the bolt v2 better than the garmin 530? I got a 530 today coming from a 130 (which is great) and I must say I’m a bit disappointed with the colour screen. It’s a bit fuzzy and poo.
