    I wanted to buy a multimeter for a while now but there are so many options in this price category and as someone who doesn't know a lot about electronics yet it's hard to chose one. There are a lot of videos complaining about cheap meters, many are offered by different brands and have similar names and some just don't have any reviews so it's hard to tell if you are watching someone who has just way higher standards than you need or if a meter is trash. I'm glad I found this review, it was really helpful and I got the meter for 26€ on Amazon.

      Excellent 👍 to hear! Its a great multimeter and should serve you well!
      CHEAP-O Multimeters are alive and well..don't believe anyone who tells you differently.Yes there are some turds but there's also alot of jewels such as the dmm that you just purchased 👌 Not everyone needs or demands a high end calibrated multimeter or 12KV input protection. Keep on Testing 😃

    ON opening the tilting bale, I finally took a pair of needlenose pliers and pinched the plastic at the top of the curve directly below that Q.C. sticker leaving a small protrusion at the top of the curved edge, leaves just enough protrustion to give your finger some grip - makes all the difference much easier to open.

    Hi, Darren! First, thanks for putting out these videos. They've been helpful while I look to purchase a DMM to get back into ham radio kit building.
    I've been hunting through Amazon's offerings and see the BTMETER series of DMMs. Do you think you could review one or two of these? Thank you!

    Hi Darren-great review: many thanks. Directed here from Amazon UK. I’m a complete newbie but need the capacitance function predominantly. My query however is the caps I use will be in the 0.001 - 1.0 microfarad range: is this model suitable? If not please would you recommend an alternative?
    Best wishes J

      Hi Jon, I've tested many .01uF - .047uF caps with this dmm and never any problems. I think it should suffice for most of your capacitance requirements.

    Im always tempted to add foil shielding using self adhesive foil tape possibly the type for furnace ducts, but ive noticed it needs to be grounded to the board and too worried about getting this right or shorting out the board if the tape came loose and contacted the PCB. I see where some meters with shielding use thin plastic as a barrier between the metal foil and the PCB. Anyone have experience in adding shielding-?

    • @KeepOnTesting
      @KeepOnTesting  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes thats a good point, would make for an interesting segment as well. Shielding seems so basic but at the same time almost non-existant in most meters.

    • @yambo59
      @yambo59 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KeepOnTesting I did see where Joe Q. Smith who does all the meter testing to failure added some custom shielding into an expensive Metrawatt meter that oddly didnt have any and had EMI interference, made a big difference.

    I'm surprised that it has no mV ranges at all, and apparently only 0.1mV resolution in the volts range. Normally, those are only omitted on industrial meters (which don't have transistor testers). Even pocket meters have mV ranges these days.

    • @KeepOnTesting
      @KeepOnTesting  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree ! I was expecting to see mV range on the selector switch but was surprised to see it was omitted. It's still a decent and capable meter , well calibrated and nice build quality and for 39$ CDN/33US I think its a good deal.

      It does read millivolts but in the volts range - I have some other budget meters like this, depends on what chip its using I guess. I also have the smaller 4000 ct. version of this meter, the Astro AI DT132A and have to say im very pleased with it, like it even more than the big one is some respects. On the 5000 the blue backlight is cool, but somehow gives the digits a bit of a washed out look - but not a big deal still very readable, the smaller meter has a nicer (to me) white backlight that has a cleaner look, again just my opinion its still a decent meter at least they have a backlight. It Irks me out of the five variants of the UT61 meters the UT61E that I have is the most expensive one and it has no friggin backlight, unforgiveable in a $50 meter imo. ive got cheap ass $15 meters with decent backlights.

    • @superciliousdude
      @superciliousdude 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@yambo59 Yeah, the chip DM1106 is a rebadged Hycon HY12P66 (also sold as the DTM0660) and it does have proper mV range support. It's the same chip as the Aneng AN8008 which actually has 1uV resolution!! Shame they didn't implement the mV ranges, from what I can tell using a crudely translated datasheet, the only thing they would need to do is implement higher input impedance as the variable gain amplifiers already exist in the chip. They saved a couple of resistors worth of parts, and not much else.

      Me too, same but red surround, more accurate than I imagined and pretty pleased with it overall. I also have the 4000 count little brother to this one the DT132A I got for $17.99 its also a good meter and I think I might like it even better than the big one in some ways.
