Hi Lars, you do not need to copy, search for the font folder on C: and paste it. Just do a right click on the font and you will see at position 4 from the top the command "install". Click it and everything is done ;-) Best regards from Germany - Wolfgang

I just converted a TTF font to OTF to add it to my fusion 360. Works fine, the font is available in Fusion but once used as Sketch I cannot extrude it to make it 3D. I get an error. A simple error without any meaning or explanation. Any advice?

Man I have been googling for a few days now on adding some text to a fusion 360 file and no matter where I looked nothing gave me an answer. This was quick and easy way to get it to work. Asian big font files was just a nightmare for me for there was little information. Most pointed to using .shx files but the ones for the language (wh) were all wrong. This works for it perfectly, thank you.

Hello. I'm on Mac and glad I found you. I am printing heart boxes for my Valentine day gifts. I wanted to personalize hem with a script font. Maybe 2 mm high that I can superglue to the top of the box. I thought that would be cool and being script I wouldn't have to mess with individual letters. Thanks for the tutorial. I already have script fonts but it's been a while since I worked with Fusion 360.

You can also right click on the TTF file and click "Install" to install the font. Much easier and a lot faster than copy/paste.

For any Mac users you can also do this by adding the font through the font book app at least for Big Sur. Do everything the same but when it comes to adding the font go to the font book app, hit the plus at the top, add your file, restart fusion, and your font should appear. :)

Thanks, Lars, I added and converted as you suggested, and hey ho the font appeared in Fusion. but did not extrude or explode. found a video by welbot that said suggested then going back into fontconverter and converting back into TT font. I did this but the fonts do not show up in Fusion again. then tried importing them as SVG from Inkscape, but got an error. The font is Clarity Gothic SF. If anyone else has solved this it would be good to know.

This didn't work for me. I initially had the problem of the TTF not showing up. Converted it to OTF. It then showed up, but when I went to extrude the text, I got a "Tool Body Creation Failed". I eventually got this to work by editing the text in Inkscape with the correct font, ran "object to path" with the text selected and then saved as an SVG. I was then able to import and extrude/cut the text. A lot more complicated than I'd like, but at least I was able to get it to work at all.

I have a problem with extracting a font converter or saving dfx ... any ideas?
Wenn ich die convertirte Schriftart in meinen Fontordner Kopierne will kommt eine Fehlermeldung das die Schrift bereits existiert! Sie ist schon im ttf Format installiert aber nicht im otf Format. Wenn ich dann erstetzen auswähle kann windows die otf nicht öffnen.
An welchen Einstellungen kann das liegen?

Lars, I loaded a Font named "Sweetness Script" OTF, then opened Fusion, found the font, added the Letter "L" I was unable to to Push Pull. any thoughts? I am able to work with perloaded Fonts, but not with fonts I add later.

How can I letter / write on an existing DXF file to be cut out on my plasma cutter ?
macOS: Fusion 360 doesn't handle correctly fonts installed in a sub-folder (e.g. ~/Library/Fonts/MyFontsGroup/FontName.otf).
It works with all other programs. Fusion 360 finds it (as it's in the list) but the font style is not applied to the text (not rendered).
ok, ive done all that and it works, but i cannoy extrude or trace the font !

My font's are showing up in Fusion even after I have closed and reopened it (even tried restarting my pc) I'm on win10
Anyone else have problems with the font on mac? I can get the font to install and show up after installing and restarting Fusion 360. When you select the font, it just uses the standard font.. almost like its unreadable.
Updated 2023, using the OTF files worked for me, extrude does not work using TTF

Can you comment how to fix when certain fonts don't display properly? I'm on a mac (i know you're pc, but I suspect this is universal), and I'm trying to model a coffee cup for my wife using a Rae Dunn font - I can install the font (very similar work flow to pc), however when I pick it from the font menu, it shows and displays on screen as Arial. Why is this? Can it be fixed?

Samara Albuquerque if you are on Mac, hold down the ‘option’ key while clicking ‘go’ on the top screen ribbon of finder- that will pop up the ‘Library’ in the list. Choose it, and open the font folder within the Library. If you drag and drop any of your ttf or otf font files into that folder, and restart fusion, it should work.

Ob Mac you have to double click the font file and a installation window pops up. That easy :-)

Hi Lars, thank you for this video. I have a problem. I did all the same as you with font "Windsong". I converted the font from ttf to oft. When I wanted to extrude, it was written "Tool body creation failed. Please what I did bad? Is possible that this font is not suitable for Fusion? Thank you. Petr

It could be. For fusion to extrude it, it still have to be able to turn it into a solid. You could go into the patch workspace and see if you could do it as a surface and then stitch it back together
Ok so I got them imported but when I go to extrude fusion throws an error! TOOL BODY CREATION FAILED? scratching head.

@@aakankshaagrawal2454 there's no fix for it basically you just have to try a different file for the font. My workaround is making the labels in illustrator and then importing as .dxf into sketch

I have several fonts installed on my system and accessible to other applications that do not show up in the list of available fonts in Fusion. Anyone got any suggestion about that?

Hey there, hope you are great, well im trying to use the font MS33558 with the extension .ttf fusion does not recognize, however if i try to use the same font with .otf extention, fusion does recognize the font but i am not able to extrude the font neither out or in to engrave to the object surface. Please any help?
Try to select the text, click explode text and than extrude. Works for me in with the MS33558 .ttf :)
@@m0rzan629 before o have done that, but never worked, I have try it today and it did work. However for this to work when trying to explode text it did first converted to Arial, there after to MS 33558. I really don't know how many type of them does exist, but I am sure the behave different with the videos a see in TH-cam

I just did a video about this stuff last week :) So annoying that mot OTF files don't work. I've found conversions often don't fix the issue either. Perhaps I need to try with more, to see if I can figure out if it's a foreign language thing, but I couldn't get conversions to work on the ones I tried.

Yeah me either. I'm actually surprised you were able to get an OTF working, while a TTF wouldn't. I was trying to get a Japanese font to work, but it was OTF, and I did some digging in the Fusion support site, and there was something saying OTF didn't work at all, so then I went to investigate converting. Had no luck with the one I was using, but luckily I ended up finding a TTF version of it that worked :)
Always great to see your experiences with things though, even when I do know about them already! I often still pick up tips I didn't think of or wasn't aware of :)

Short live Stream, long story. Some fonts can not be extruded, even if you can find them in the font list. Its a pitty, but I know a walk around, if you write the letters in another program and export them as svg-file (e.g. with inkscape). Than you can extrude the font.

I don't know all the stuff happen in the background, but Fusion still need to be able to convert it into a solid. Yes, you can always convert the font into something more readable, like svg :-)

I can't extrude 99% of all fonts I have tested...Arial works but that's about it. EVEN the WALTOGRAPH used in the video will not extrude...
You have to right click and hit explode text
Easy on windows. Download font. Unzip - right click on the font and click install. Restart Fusion.

This worked for me... Right clic on your sketch, explode text and then extrude.
I had the same problem last year when trying out some new font. It wouldn’t let me extrude nor explode the text.
I found a workaround though. I ended up creating an svg file using Inkscape and then imported it onto fusion 360.
