      he deserves credit for how well he substituted phrases in for the clean version. it's not even a downgrade, his "clean" verse is just as good as the album version. he didn't let them just censor parts of his lines. cares so much about the flow he's willing to rewrite parts of it with just as smooth bars.

    • @apexone5502
      @apexone5502 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Nah, the new South style is the result of what Bad Boy records had started when it made it ok to be commercialized and to rap about materialism in an advocacy fashion. I can still remember the underground hip hop heads crying foul back then when Puffy, Ma$e, and all were blowing up. The only Bad Boy artists who got a pass were Craig Mack, Biggie, and The Lox. Other than them, the underground heads were crying about hip hop dying since the Bad Boy era. The southern trap BS you see these days are the ripples from what Puffy had stirred up.

I'm from the Midwest, but I always felt the southern rap was the same shit we was living, riding vouges, getting money, on some hustler shit in the Midwest, dealing with out of towners trying to come to our city on some bully shit, but sending home on some bad shit... I loved this song.. especially when they took a shot at NYC....

But they flipped out on the 3rd album and their music took a hit because they were trying to do what was "trendy" in the South at the time...

      that's Oakland player hustler culture versus traditional gang culture and live instrumentation over samples like early bay production like ant banks and digital underground? its pretty clear in hindsight. I've lived in the south and midsoutg an can tell you culturally that its easier for country folks to relate to what was coming out the bay versus anything that ever came from the east. And of course the huge creative era set off post the Chronic.
