  • Who exactly is African? Throughout history, Africa was known to many peoples of the ancient world, but it wasn't until relatively recently that the entirety of the massive continent was truly explored and mapped out for the first time, giving insight into the plethora of diverse and fascinating people groups who live there.
    Today we will be discussing some of the races and ethnicities of Sub-Saharan Africa and their descendants in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the Americas, and how they've impacted the planet from a demographic perspective, which includes your's truly. Thanks for watching!

      BLUE DOG Just shut up! So tired of hearing people as misinformed as you speak. The 'elites' aren't Marxists, that doesn't even make sense. Moreover, the extensive global migration that we are now accustomed to is a product of Capitalism and free market ideology, not Marxism.

      @BLUE DOG Technicallly, we are /all/ from Africa - this is where the first humans emerged. Most places didn't have walls to bar humans from travelling from point A to point N or W or Z and if ancient people wanted to mingle -- they did. They didn't have the hang ups of colonialism and slavery in the New World that we Americans are stuck on. The world is very different than we are kinda taught and not very well in school or university even.

      @@justlooking1087 Bundling Marxists with elites with globalist and Zionists makes sense if you're trying to unify a people around common enemies. Many Marxists are indeed globalists. Communism was meant to be global. And there's no reason an elite can't be a Marxist. Lenin was a factory owner, yes, a member of the bourgeoisie? And there is definite mingling between elite, Marxist, globalist and Zionist circles which many whites feel excluded from. Can you not see that?

      African Proud African Proud as an African American, most of the reasons you’ve listed of why an African descent individual should be proud of their African ancestry are false and lack evidence to prove them. They’re mostly opinions you’ve either concocted to consolidate your self worth or to misinform individuals about race and human evolution for your own personal benefit . Whatever the reason why you’ve listed these “opinions”, I can only assume that you’re just a troll that’s trying to be sarcastic and/or funny. You failed miserably if you were trying to be funny, however if you were trying to be sarcastic, you’ve succeeded tremendously.

    For some of those societies, finding a cut-off between Africans and non-Africans was an important economic and legal question.
    For example, slavery laws in the US slowly changed to make children take their racial status from the mother AND make slavery inheritable. This meant slave owners could breed their African laborers with each other AND breed with African women without worrying that the offspring could be freed, saving them a lot of money on imports.
    This also led to a lot of raped women giving birth to progressively whiter "African" children which became very lightly complected, along with other typically European features. Some escaped slaves could easily 'pass' as white until they were beyond the reach of slave catchers and later blend in with white society. That is lost labor and investment due to an inability to distinguish Africans from Europeans, and is just one example of the need for highly regulating or banning interracial sex in a society dependent on African labor.

I as a white man owe you nothing. My family never owned slaves and being white doesnt equate me to being a slave owner. If you go back much further the slave traded actually started in Africa.
      Africans enslaved people under the Moorish Empire, under the Carthaginians, under the Nubians. My people were too busy being used pillaged and slaughtered by the Romans, the Spaniards, French, Austrians, and ALL THREE German Reichs. Why am I lumped in with the 2% of southern slave owners? My family came to the US in 1952 and because of my skin color you want to beef with me? No logic whatsoever dude. And btw I will say this as well, I walked the streets of Wilmington, DE in Riverside (one of the most violent places in the nation) to hand out food to poor black families. You know what a death waver is? I had to sign that and put my life on the line to feed hungry black children.
      My grandmother took most of her spare money and helped fund Master Level College education for 4 black children she knew. All of which went on to become doctors, dentists, and lawyers. We also employed 50 people of Puerto Rican and Mexican decent. So I can't exactly figure out what debt I owe anyone. My family has since lost it's business because of the Chinese markets. I live on subsidies and SSI to get by. You think I owe you something?

    Only Eastern/northern african were the people referred to as africans, it's funny how things have changed, west african are today's standard africans, their bantu phenotype is considered the standard African look and any other african without that look has his african'ness questions. As a full somali with a light complexion and wavy curly hair, west africans always ask me if i'm from african or arab.

    Firstly, much love from Kenya
    Secondly, Here are my thoughts.
    1. The distinction between black and African should be clearly made. Black people living in the Americas are of African ancestry but aren't African at all just like white people living in the Americas aren't European at all but are of European ancestry.
    2. North Africans are geographically African but not racially which is something they would agree with.
    3. The peoples of Madagascar and Southern Africa whose dna is mixed with European/Polynesian DNA should identify as African as they have a stronger connection to racial 'africanness' unlike North Africans. Identifying as black though...
    4. All peoples living in Sub Saharan Africa who are Niger-Congo, Nilo-Saharan and Khoisan/Pygmy are both black and African {recognising that the saharan(Sudan, Mali etc) and southern african(South Africa, Namibia etc) countries have outsider influence}
    5. East Africa has had a significant influence from the Horn but mostly, it is both Black and African as horn and middle eastern influence is limited to the coast and areas inhabited by cushitic peoples (who make up only a small minority)
    Therefore, to be racially African, one must live in Sub Saharan Africa and have his or her ancestors belonging to sub saharan people groups.
    Then again, its all very complicated but this is my opinion as an African. Much love from Kenya and love yourself regardless of skin tone, language, gender or sexuality.

      Kiritu George what a naive argument of saying to be African you must have SSA ancestry. That’s total BS! Anybody with any african nation citizenship is African.
      And what u call SSA blood is ignorant. All humans originated in Africa. The first group to split was ancestors of Khoi-San alongside pygmies. The second branch was Ancestors of West Africans. Then remained ancestral East Africans. Eurasians branched off from these East Africans. Good example of those East Africans is the Hadza. After this, tell me who is African. By the way, all these African clusters I talked of above, didn’t occupy the whole continent.

    • @owlcowl
      @owlcowl ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Of course there are genetic clusters, altho most genetic variation is clinal. The reason "race" has been abandoned by most biological anthropologists is because it is too crude & reductionist a concept to encompass the rich populational diversity that actually exists, which does not fall into such distinct continental categories as were commonly used a century ago. Living Homo sapiens do not have subspecies (which used to be roughly interchangeable with "races", hence the addition of the second "sapiens"), so "race " can only be a fuzzy taxon awkwardly niched in between subspecies above it and the multiple demes, local breeding populations, below it. But apart perhaps from the indigenous Australians, there is no sizable group today which fits such a description and no agreement on how many there are because of continuing gene flow over the millennia. Thus, given its lack of utility in characterizing current population structure, plus the odious historical baggage with which the word is saddled, there is no good scientific reason to retain the term when analyzing the details of human geographical diversity.

      It does if you consider it a lower classification than subspecies, it doesn't if you don't. All of the races today descend from previously extinct populations that merged into a new population over the last several hundred thousand years, and there will be new races to come in the next couple thousand years.

    As a portrait artist and with experiencing colors of different ethnic groups I have this observation. To mix European skin tones, I mix red, yellow and purple (also with white and a tiny fraction of green) To achieve darker skin, I just more purple. I have never found it necessary to use black paint. So "black" people are really purple people. This goes contrary to common sense, but if you look at skin tones with an open mind and eye, you with see skin tones differently.

    Yashua was born in Yemen. His mother was a black African woman. No slavery was involved when discussing his origins along with the other Hebrew people of his kind. So why is slavery mentioned when 50% of the population of Yemen have African ancestry? This region was once ruled by Ethiopia. These people weren't slaves. Stop associating africans to slavery at every turn.

    You may need to do some research on the Indian Ocean trade routes between African Empires on the eastern coast, India, and China. While Europe was generally ignorant of what was beyond the Sahara, other Eurasian civilizations were well aware of the complexity of African peoples.

    Explain the race of the Berbers. The Berbers are called Moors, but others are as well, for example, the Arabs of North Africa and some blacks, called Black Moors. It's very confusing.

      "Moor" derived from the Greek word mauros (plural mauroi), and means "black" or "very dark," which in Latin became Mauro (plural Mauri). The Latin word for black was niger not mauro, or in Latin fusco for “very dark.” In some cases Moors were described as fuscus.

Before the last dynasty of Egypt the Egyptians never believed in mixing with the Greeks and Romans because they considered them Enemies and the Greeks considered them to be less civilized due to their wholly hair texture and dark skin tone like that of the Ethiopians, ‘Herodotus said the Egyptians had black skin and woolly hair’. For those of you who are religious you should also note that the Ancient " not modern " Egyptians came from the bloodline of “Ham: The youngest son of Noah, born probably about 96 years before the Flood; and one of eight persons to live through the Flood.
