Who Exactly is a “Caucasian?”

  • Who exactly is a Caucasian? And what does this label even mean anyways? Although the term "Caucasoid" or "Caucasian" is largely considered to be outdated and inaccurate, today we'll be discussing whether the people historically described as such actually have any sort of genealogical or socio-political/cultural similarities in their origins whatsoever.
This video is NOT intended to be controversial or spark arguments over the usage of the word “race,” only to show a common genetic contribution to various populations spread out over a large chunk of the Earth's surface and the historical reasoning and analysis behind the term “Caucasoid.” It's just a stupid term that someone made up over a hundred years ago, so relax. Thanks for watching!

The word carries with it so many problems. For starters, it was analogous to "Negro" for a long time, which should give some idea of how long the word has been in use. And it is so often used to describe Europeans only, when in fact the Caucasus Mountains are barely in Europe! Whenever I hear someone mention that Middle Easterners are not Caucasian, I ask, "Well, then - what are they?" People will usually say "brown," even though that is the most imprecise of all the "color" terms for race and can refer to any of various races. Occasionally someone will say "Semites," but then the Jews are Semites and most of them are considered white. Frankly, I think "brown" (at least when used in a Middle Eastern context) is pretty much a code word for "Muslim," because I've noticed that Christian Arabs are usually able to pass for "white"; in fact, many Christian Arabs have "melted" into white America entirely, while most Muslim Arabs apparently have not.

      @factsbeforefeellings6115 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

@Sharon Cato No it is not a artificial construct. There are 4 main racial groups. Australoid Caucasoid mongoloid and negroid. There are distinct physical differences between each race. For example just by looking at a scull. A trained anthropologist can tell you what race that person was. Each racial group also has been found to have a certain admixture of archaic human relative DNA. Caucasoid = Neanderthal, Mongoloid= mostly neanderthal with some Denosovan, Australoid= mostly Denosovan with some Neanderthal, Negroid= heidelbergensis and Paleo Africanis. Each of the admixes of arcane DNA results in the regional physical and internal differences among the races. All modern humans are hybrid sub species of Homo sapiens. That does not mean that one race is any better than the others. The facts point out that race is in fact real. Each race is suited best for the part of the world they are fund in because of there individual genetic admixture.

But going back far enough we share our origins as human beings and even living beings from Eastern Africa, so dividing based on origins of such phenotype traits and exact Genotype is all a moot point.

@@douche8980 Correct. Just because each of these has some Caucasian substratum, doesn't make them the same so-called "race." The Levant, northeastern Africa, and the Caucasus itself have the highest admixtures of Caucasian, but it's extremely low in the rest of Europe and South Asia. So this would apply to the Syrians, much less to the Somalis, but not to the Sri Lankans or Swedes. This is outdated colonial era pseudo-science for a reason, and it baffles me why, rightly, saying "Black race/negroid, "yellow race/Mongoloid," and "red race" are rightly seen as offensive and inaccurate, and somehow in the US "Caucasian" is somehow seen as polite and valid. Yes, it would be interesting to find out why this is the case, probably either because there was an existing Caucasian substratum before Afro-Asiatic and Ino-European peoples began to dominate in the area, or because e.g. the Hyksos were originally a Caucasian people before spreading into the Middle East and then Egypt, even though they're simply assumed to be Semitic (Afroasiatic).
Having family from the actual Caucasus region, we have Indo-European Languages in Iranic and Armenian, Altaic languages in Turkic, and Caucasian languages such as Georgian and Chechen. Although we are genetically related having lived next to each other for several centuries, calling us all "Caucasian" culturally or ethnically instead of simply geographically, is something we find outdated and ignorant, just FWIW.

The Puerto Rican point that I am making is that the majority of Puerto Ricans should not be classified as White on the census because they occupy a very different societal position than White people, and most of the ones who are told to write White are just light skinned mixed people for whom another option of mestizo, mulatto, mixed latino, or Afro-Latino should be available.

When I was in college many years ago, one of my required humanities classes brought in the county coroner to talk about "race". He said that coroners could generally come up with a general description of a person from bones alone, assuming there was enough material to examine, and said that there were three races, broadly speaking: Indo-European, Asian and African, and this was based on bone structure, not skin color. Obviously, because there is so much "mixing" of DNA in the US and much of the world, this can sometimes create issues for coroners using bones alone to come up with a description of the deceased.

@@DCJNewsMedia First Indo-European people were people called Yamnaya. you can search that name. this was the first people who had blonde hair(they had first mutation). they lived in the north of the Caucasus in the territory of modern Russia. they were physically strongest people at that time because they were first people who consumed milk. they also were eating meat and honey so their diet contained 40% more calories than other people's diet. Yamnaya's people also had strong bone structure (because Milk=Vitamin D). they also used horses. one more thing to mention is that they had very advanced metallurgy. their weapons were too good for that time. all these were the reasons why they conquered whole Europe.
now the question: did they have any connection to real caucasian people?
answer: yes :) yamnaya's people created by mixing 2 people of that time.
      1)caucasian hunter/gatherer
      2)eastern european hunter/gatherer
so we see that 40-50% of Yamnaya's peoples genetics comes from Caucasian people but its not only genetics, its culture too. As I said Yamnaya's people were eating honey and gathered it in pots. do you know how they knew it? because their ancestors Caucasians(Georgia) were first beekeepers in the world
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beekeeping
Yamnaya's people were herders so they couldn't beekeeping but they gathered it.
I also said that they had advanced metallurgy. science says that first advanced metallurgy was in Asian countries and Yamnaya's people took it from them but Holy Bible says that first advanced metallurgy in the world was invented by Tubals(Georgian tribes) 5000 years ago. Georgia is Caucasian country. Yamnaya's people may took it from them or from Asian countries. no one knows that.
Caucasian Hunter/Gatherer people mixed with other peoples too
Yamnaya's people were herders they took their genetics in whole Eurasia too.
Now there are genetical maps where we find Caucasian hunter/gatherer gene in Europe, Asia and north Africa too.
there are plenty researches of Yamnaya's peoples genetics. You can search it. If you want I can send few genetical researches about them.

The only real Caucasian people are the ones who live in the Caucas regions but since the word ‘Caucasian’ is actually offensive and used to down-grade other races. I think the best way to describe them is ‘white Eurasian’. As for Somalis, most Somalis I’ve come across refer themselves as Cushitic black Africans and are proud to be black Africans. Let’s admit most people who are deemed as ‘Caucasian’ in this video probably don’t have any ‘white privilege’ anyway. But if you want to call yourself Caucasian that’s fine I’m just saying it shouldn’t be a word to describe people anymore

Hapa is a Hawaiian term that meant half Asian or Pacific Islander it could be anyone who's half asn or P islander even a blasian person I think a better term would be Eurasian I agree native north Americans were Eurasian in origin and that's y Eurasians would look like Latinos sometimes

These are originally German terms adopted later by some other Western countries. In other countries, they do not use this term. Something else is used and other maps exist.

I would love to see your take on the Māori, since there are no pure blooded Māori left in the world, since all are part European, but have remained a united culture and race, and still remain a central place in New Zealand culture and society.

Maori used to be Austronesian/Polynesian, that's kinda scary because mixed race is like destroying civilization. A lot of Māori nowadays are mixed and even already identify as Caucasian, the same with Aboriginals. Understand if people are obsessed with Caucasian features but kinda not good tho. Filipinas, Indonesia, and Malaysian are in this tho obsessed with Caucasian half ppl

I need to get my DNA tested I’m mixed race more tanned. With jet black hair. But I think I’ve got more European descent as mum is more Dark skinned but European features and my dad is white Irish. So would I be classed as Caucasian then?
