Awesome footage, thanks for posting it! The Amtrak consists back then were much more interesting and impressive then the ones of today. I do have to say some of that Heritage equipment and the auto carriers on the Auto Train were looking pretty tired in this video. Those brand new Genesis P40 locomotives up front, beautiful. Loved them in their original look.

Isn't the Auto Train all Superliners now? Also, what were those boxcars at the end? Some older type of autorack?

@@trainzguy2472 The Auto Train has been all Superliners since 1996ish. Those "boxcars" are indeed Auto Carriers dating from the 70s, when the Auto Train was a privately ran operation.

@Adam M you are correct. I worked for Auto Train I started October 1995. When I started, the Sleepers (and First Class Diner) was Superliner and the remainder of the train was the same as in your video. Within a few months or so the remainder of the train was replaced with Superliner Equipment

@@robertbauers2210that had to have been an interesting time in Amtrak history to be working that train. It is nice with a uniform Superliner consist that are all in the same scheme, but for us train guys...we love the variety!

@Adam M liked the heritage equipment as well as the Dome Car. When I started, Coach still had the buffet car which was nice.

Do you happen to have any consist lists/pictures/videos of the train in 95/96 when the sleepers were superliner and the coach section was single level?

0:56 how slow is that engine??

60 mph = 88 feet per second. The average passenger car is 85 feet, so one car per second = 60mph. You can use fractions to determine slower speeds if you remember how. In this case, it's taking six seconds for one car to pass, so the train was doing 60/6 or ten mph.

You don't need much power when you only have accelerate from a stop in Lorain and Florence. Thanks for sharing.
