On this episode of the SSPX Interview series, we’re going to be taking a look at Marijuana. In recent years, the use of recreational cannabis has become fairly widespread and legal in many places. And even among Catholics, it’s now common hear that using this drug is no different than drinking alcohol. So Fr. Robinson will join us to take a careful look at the drug that is marijuana, as it is dispensed today, along with the effects that this drug has on its users, as revealed by current studies. We’ll look broadly at the morality of drug use, then, we will look specifically at marijuana to consider its effects, compare its effects to those of alcohol and tobacco, and finally make a judgment on the morality of its use.

If you had drunkards in high school the result would be much the same I'm sure - but that says nothing of alcohol itself.
Ultimately one can blame the puritanism intrinsic to some trad communities particularly in America for what is a largely ill-informed take on the matter.
Much like alcohol, caffeine and tobacco it's a matter of prudence and temperance.

No matter what it is, if a substance inhibits your ability to pray, knee down before a crucifix, a statue of Our Lady or reading writings from a doctor of the church, if your intellect is effected in that moment, when God wishes you to be holy, you may not be bringing your creator you at your best, which is already lowly and insufficient, it seems imprudent and uncharitable if you are trying to progress in perfection.

I got heavy into cannabis after I got out of the military, around the same time I was starting to come back to the faith. I do believe it helped me in some regards, however the early benefits were absolutely not worth the nightmare reality I found myself in a year or so into my use (not to mention the enormity of grave sins I had committed in areas of lust, gluttony, and sloth). Like the example of the young man who shot himself, I too found myself buying all sorts of survival equipment, and was a paranoid wreck. The only thing that kept me grounded was my faith, which was tested very hard over the two or so years it took me to fully recover my mental state. It's truly an insidious and deceptive plant.

The British government has enacted laws to make cannabis available under medical supervision. It can be legally obtained on prescription only. This gives you the measure of how dangerous this drug is. Undoubtedly people suffering from pain self medicate but it should only be done under a doctors supervision. This is really where the US government fails to look after their own citizens by providing a full national health service as in Europe where people can access the drugs they need for free under a doctors supervision. It Is a disgrace for the richest country in the world to let it's people suffer like this. The drug is not the problem it's the gangsters who distribute it to all and sundry. It is for medical use only in the UK.

Now the Lord indeed want me to be without it. I smoke then in the evening one. And because the Lord is coming stronger in me I can't smoke more like I used to do. It's a deep rooted habit and it's slowly fading away. Pray for me to cut the cord and I will totally break with a habit what I used before I knew the Lord. If you have debilitating chronic nerve pain from one of the many autoimmune disorders out there - lupus and multiple sclerosis being the best 2 known of a whole family of diseases - then taking tylenol, ibuprofen, or aspirin doesn't help. Neurological pain only responds to neurological medication. Standard painkillers don't work. Your choices are psychedelics, THC, and narcotics. Between them, THC is the least mind-altering. There is a legitimate medical use for it. It is irresponsible to dismiss the legitimate use of it and lump everything into recreational use.

I don't do it daily, maybe once per week and I put so little doses in a cigarette. My spiritual sensitivity is highly active when I smoke it. I often begin to cry in joy when listening catholic chants or reading the Bible while doing the plant.
But there is an aftermath. As soon as the euphoria vanishes, sinful ideas begin to rise in me. Most importantly glutony. Also often times I expierence insecurity about myself and sometimes even anxiety. Sometimes I'm able to control the "aftermath" and the impulses that come with it, and I actually do have a long term benefit from this single usage. But more often I succomb to these impulses and I hate myself the following days for my weak soul. It's a battle with the Devil and the THC weakens you while you battle him.

I work for the police and even there I find an attitude that says more or less that it is okay. Here there are also shops selling products on all the major streets and a town not too far from my town is noted as a pot growing town where they used green houses all year round. I shutter when I think that all this is contributing to a decline in mental health. Thanks again....Stephan
ps - I was also wondering about something when Andrew made the comment that even in traditional Catholic circles, this attitude can be found. Another strange attitude in traditionalist circles is that cigar smoking is manly, somehow Catholic and again cool. Not sure why this has come about, but I have noticed it on various so-called traditional websites such as Taylor Marshall and Kennedy Hall. I find it stinky and it cannot be good for the lunges (which God gave us too).

Way back in the 1970's, I saw marijuana cause psychosis (hallucinations and schizophrenia) in two people. The daily user thought he saw bugs hatching out of his skin. He lost his job, "flipped out" permanently, spent the rest of his life in and out of mental institutions, and died at age 59. I'm not a moral authority but from my medical knowledge your body would get used to even microdose of thc and learn to require it to sleep. Eat healthy, don't eat for atleast 3-4 hours before going to sleep, eat your protein and fat heavy meals for breakfast and lunch and have only small and light meals in the evening. Don't drink coffee or consume chocolate after noon and have moderate physical activity. Best activity level is the max of what you can sustain a constant amount every day without strain or injury. Limit stimulating activities for atleast an hour before bed and pray Rosary right before bed.

Some guy with dreads listening to bob marley and doing nothing all day is obviously sinful, It’s kind of a newer issue so I’m not sure what to think of it all. It does seem pretty similar to alcohol in the sense that a small amount is fine and excess is terrible, but I guess it doesn’t cause drunkenness that would lead to even more sin I think

Is Marijuana wrong, Yes if it is abused, my problem is when is it abuse? Seems to me anyone who doesn't abuse would actually not even want to use it an that applies to Alcohol as well. One drink taken slowly, is not a sin but two drinks easily can be wrong, and why do people want to ruin their health? Nicotine, and Alcohol will both do that, but with smoking there is no reasonable use, it ends up messing with our health.

I would be interested to hear your spiritual explanation of the effects of marijuana. In my experience, marijuana and mushrooms opens people up to different ways of seeing, mostly operating from the subconscious. This can be quite dangerous as people often have unresolved issues that will surface when using psychedelic compounds, so I would never recommend it to people in general. That being said, these psychedelics can do great therapeutic work, especially with mental problems like depression by giving patients an alternative way of looking at the world for a brief moment.
The earliest known use of marijuana was from ancient India where people would throw it in a bonfire after a tragedy(like war or disease), they used it to aid in their mourning. I think marijuana is attractive to sad people, that would explain why more and more people use it, because depression is rampant in these times with or without marijuana.

“If someone had a few puffs of a joint that was 1% thc or less, there is no moral sin there.” This kinda undermines the whole interview, you are putting deluded and uninformed metrics upon what “moderate use” is, or you are creating a huge straw man for cannabis use. How do you quantify the subjective effects level and judge which is sinful or not? Hypothetically it would seem you could, but you insist that there is no “moderate use” with modern products. So using cannabis was moral until 20 years ago? I bet 20 years ago you would have said the same exact things regardless. This is reefer madness, the Catholic remix

Most of his research comes from the "Medical Industry," the same experts who recommend taking the death jab along with poor examples of adverse effects. I am so disappointed with his subjective approach. I was looking for an excellent objective argument. Fr. Robinson, I am disappointed with your research. The fact that you just said there is a connection between the use of Marijuana and Autism is a misleading statement. When will you come out with the research regarding the link between Vaccines and Autism? To Fr. Robinson's credit, he does look uncomfortable speaking about this subject and might have been told to take on this subject that he is unfamiliar. 1 joint equal to 4-5 cigarettes???
