NL on homelessness: "I mean sleeping outside next to the generator, I gotta level with you, it sounds pretty nice to me. It sounds like a camping trip" NL on child labour: Children can not be employed at all.... intially. (chuckles)
Just a few quick tips. It's probably better to focus on individual gather piles since they do take up map space you may want (edit: wrote that part before you did gather posts, those are even better to use). Best to completely deplete one at a time than spread out workers to deplete evenly. Engineers can also work most basic jobs (except hunting). Really keep them working too (especially like cookhouse, it's going to be warm and safe usually), just they are rarer and advanced jobs can only be done by them. Some buildings don't need heat but don't worry about it too much because you can move them later if you need the space they take for something that does. There's an economy tab somehwere, it is very useful (seeing coal usage rate per day, how many resources are on your map, resource gather rate). You were completely right about gathering too much coal, that just would have showed exactly how right.
Here's some hot tips for our boy NL so that this playthrough can go a little smoother. 1. Make sure to keep your whole workforce working at all times. Although Engineers are pretty valuable, you don't really have to worry about assigning them at the "wrong" buildings unless it's really cold. 2. Passing laws early on can help with your short-term survival, especially the medical and food related ones if you're struggling. 3. The "Emergency Shift" law that you passed has to be toggled on in the specific workplace you want to work 24 hours. This is the same for a lot of other laws too. 4. Make sure your food production is keeping up! Just like how you're trying to build more tents since more people are coming, you need more food too. Right now you're only providing 20 meals a day for a colony of 80 people, a gap that is only going to widen with more people. That's all! Super hyped for this series and I hope you'll stick with it. This game is great at its core and has a lot of interesting choices and situations (especially with the new DLC). Good luck!
Oh my lord, NL. I literally thought at the same time "this sounds alot like 28 Days Later soundtrack" as you said that. It really does sound like "In the House In A Heartbeat" from 28 Days Later.

Just letting you know right now NL, research is an enormous part of early/late game. Building 2 or 3 workshops is crucial. Also it is better to assign 15 people to 1 depot of coal versus 15 people divided between 3 depots of coal. Good luck! This game is tough as heck!

Hey NL, strategy games are my favorite let’s plays you do! Very excited for this! Even if you’re not great at the game it’s always really entertaining.
I was recently lookin through my library and i found out that i own Frostpunk but have never played it. I thought to myself that it would be cool if NL played it so I can do aswell alongside him and here i am blessed by this video. Thank you Ryan!
I remember in the late game with this, I had built like 20 Air Hunter Huts and it was always fun to watch them take off at night, crossbow and harpoon guns at the ready.
For anyone reading this, and for future reference. You don't really need to turn the generator on until the first temperature drop. Redundant tip for NL at this point, I know. Pay attention to building insulation too, the hunters hut has 2 insulation, meaning it didn't need to be in the heated zone at this temp. I didn't know any of this when I started either, tutorial isn't ideal.
I'm glad NL is playing this game. I know it's not for me to play, as I just get overwhelmed by these kinds of games anyway. A some point I just get frustrated with the apparent backlog of things to do. I do always like the style of games like these and Frostpunk is particularly pretty.
Spend the whole day listening to the "Shelter from the sstorm" song by Stupendium and now Egg-daddy uploads the game. This might be the luckiest coincidence of my life (which, now that I said it sound really sad)
I liked the game a lot - at release it was a bit low in content but they released more as time went on. Endless mode is pretty fun once you finish the available scenarios (or even the main one only). Haven't played the DLC yet though. I'm sure this came up already on Twitter but as a tip, I advise to carefully read what insulation level each building has, some of them can withstand being further away from heat sources so you don't have to crowd them around the generator. Have fun!
NL you can have the hunters hut outside of heat zone as the hunter's don't actually work there they go out into the frostlands so the huts temp is irrelevant. Except if you let your storage of raw food cap then your hunters will freeze to death in the huts so just be mindful and you should be fine.
Little tip here that goes unnoticed by many. The deaths from 24h shifts are scripted. You get one free use of the power. However, if you pause the game at the very start, assign all the people to gather stuff and use it on all assigned sites at once before it all starts, you it counts as your free shift, no deaths occur. Also ignore the first request to not use 24h shifts as it stops all of them when you need them the most, the start. I usually go with two wood piles a coal pile and a steel, 24h them all, then take off some engineers to build the workshop and medic post ASAP, then fill the workshop and get beacon, drawing boards hothouse. You want all piles gone before the temp drops, so build gathering posts to one insulate workers, and save labour by working 2-3 15 person piles at once for 10 people, a 20-35 person savings. Once normal shift of research is over, reassign the engies to medic post and treat the sick as they come in so they won't become gravely ill. Second law extended shifts, third is food additives (try to time it so you cook all the food just before starvation really hits )4th is radical treatment 5th is overcrowding. Build your houses away from the main heatzone in a cluster and leave a tentsized space in the middle for an arena. This is so you need only one steam hub. Faith is best purpose, no need to man shrines.
“Let’s put this hunters hit next to the core, let’s trust the game designers” Lmao literally the exact opposite in that case, but I love watching people figure stuff out. But that made me laugh. Unfortunately a tip you don’t see for a while is hunters huts don’t need heat like others
