The advice is sound, from someone who has a lot of high level experience in frostpunk, it's just not super relevant to someone new in the tutorial map. I fully trust NorthernLion to figure out what he need to change in his approach, though.

This type of absolute garbage tips are something that really annoys me. Every game, especially more difficult ones, have things that "I wish I'd know before I started", but this is not that... I mean, like pointed out, our boi is not moving his freezing workers from the open piles into the gathering post.
Here's one from when I played through. Steam hubs just mimic power of generator (so they overdrive and get the power upgrades) but do not stack with each other. When I played I was thinking it was a set benefit (like +1) and you'd have to stack them to make a difference so I never used them once on my first run (and still managed to beat it, but just barely). Steam Hubs are SO much better than I first thought they'd be.

That's because Fahrenheit is like a weird logarithmic scale so it's very different from the Celsius linear scale. For example Kelvin has a linear scale just like celsius and their scales are parallel so they never cross

If no Food, at all, has been eaten for the transitional period of time, die. Eating Raw Food fills people to Full-Status for half as long as normal. Soup turns 2 Raw Food into 4 Rations.
You're likely to find this out before and if you read this but; you can build a building first, then make a road leading to it. That way your placing is always optimal and you never build too much road. Secondly, try to keep the research going steadily, you can even build a second research building to speed things along. Thirdly, you don't have to get into this but there is a data screen that shows you your resource income and usage which is a decent way to determine if for example a second raw food building is needed to not steadily deplete your supplies.

In situations like you had at the start, might be better to save the stress from overdrive to use it on nighttime (I'm not sure if nighttime is considered colder, but hey, your citizens will definitely be in those tents in the zone being affected). As you probably noticed, gathering post starts slightly warmer than those piles, which is the other reason to have them up (you'll notice how fast those "ill/severely ill" shot up during that first cold day working in the snow). Also, super worth looking over the research tabs and law book options even if you're not going to grab one right away. For one, if you don't check the resource tab of the research menu soon, this run is done (that's where longer-term wood/steel/coal techs are). Don't forget to check workers (you still had 7 people on piles around that second gathering hub).
Nighttime is definitely the best time to use overdrive. Most sickness occurs at night when the people are sleeping. It had exactly zero effect when he used it during the day since all the people were working remotely
NL probably knows that the backseating will be crazy considering the age of this game and his semi-blind run. Try to give him a break though. We all failed our first time in this game or at best had a really inefficient city. It is not a sign of ignorance, it just learning the mechanics of the game via experiencing failure. That is a hallmark of a game like this. Its core entertainment value is in learning how to survive it.
@@Oxxyjoe I'm more concerned about the lack of heat upgrades. His reasoning of going between buildings is sound except that those buildings generally have heating. The game is only going to get colder and colder and he needs those heat upgrades.

Tried it starting with episode 1 and I made the exact same mistakes but worse. Wound up taking the lost expedition survivors in -40 while I didn't have enough wood to build tents for them or gathering posts for the resource piles. Just restarted when I hit the 8th frostbite case with a better idea of build priorities and timing windows. These kind of mistakes are pretty hard to avoid when you don't know what you're working toward, so I definitely can't blame him.
He needs to handle all his sick *and* get more research going *and* get more food collection going. He's going very slow so even this laughably easy Medium difficulty might be somewhat of a challenge. 3 amputees already is nuuuts.

In outer space the temperature is well under -100c. Imagine that insanity. Here in up-state NY, the coldest it gets is about 5, slightly above 0. And that feels super cold to me.
I mean an antivaxxer is putting not only themself, but others (normally their children) at risk too. Whereas this guy would rather potentially die, and I stand by NLs decision ethically speaking.
The goal is just survival, so you need a stable source of food and coal. Food for the people, coal for the generator. The generator produces a circle of heat around it. If people live or work in cold places they are more likely to get sick or frostbite. Amputees can't work until they get prosthetics while the sick won't work until they get better. Towards the end of the campaign the temperature takes a nosedive and you will not survive without a pile of generator upgrades and working outside of the generator radius will be pretty much impossible. So it really comes down to managing your labor in the limited time you have before that nosedive.
You can tell zoomers made this game. It's the end of the world, food is short and we need things to burn to keep the heat on. But for some reason amputees can retire. There wasn't even an option to make soilent green or use them as kindling!
