  • Ford just put some batteries in the boot of a Mondeo and in some ways that's ruined the car. Very disappointing that Ford has missed the point

So, actually this car has just two "major" issues : clumsy and little bit reduced boot space and "dark" back seat environment? Otherwise, car is very quiet, easy to drive , it's pretty fuel efficient ( even more effective in city driving conditions ) , it has more space than Corolla and shares exactly the same simple, durable and reliable CVT transmission system with Toyota. And yes, this car is much cheaper than Corolla. Well , dear friend, thanks a lot for this review !!!

I'm glad you mentioned the bumps on the new section! Drove it the other day and I was convinced I was getting a flat or something. I went Limerick to Belfast and back during the week, had a full load coming back and still got 6L/100km (1.5 Skyactiv G) for the overall journey. That's after me calculating it the old fashioned way at fill up, rather than relying on the computer. Makes the economy on that Mondeo look very poor.

I have the diesel estate variant of this car in titanium spec and love it. It drives so well and is extremely quiet. The Battery pack makes no sense in this hybrid. It's a lazy way of turning a normal car into a hybrid.

Hi Bob, I'm a bit confused. On the one hand you say that you wouldn't recommend this car to anyone, then you go on about how economical in town it is, how quiet it is, how comfortable it is. Yes, the boot space is compromised due to the battery installation but how is it when the back seats are folded down? Truth is, like most of the other major car manufacturers, Ford is way behind the game of moving over to 100% (built from the ground up) electric cars. The German manufacturers are all making claims about range in their new EV offerings but predominantly they are expensive and poor range.
For me Tesla is still perhaps 10 yrs ahead of the rest of the market and gathering road data at an accelerating rate as they deliver 100,000's of new cars on the road - faster than anyone else, especially now that the new Chinese Giga factory is in production.

Not just a compliance, its getting to be the only choice to drive unto major EU city centres. Diesel is old tech and Ford just launched a new TDI in 2019. Cmax, kuga, smax in desperate need of total new car. No EV, poor hybrids, no modern PHEV. Best engine tech was the 3cyl turbo, otherwise?? What has Opel and Ford done for car modernity in the last decade?? One engine?

Such a shame that Ford have abandoned the mondeo I've no doubt it will go down as one of Ford's best every automotive presenter/journalist or critic all say the mondeo is a good/great car ie Clarkson may and hammond when was the last time you seen a advert for the mondeo probably about 20 years ago there is the problem no effort by Ford sales department to sell the car there all obsessed with the hideous SUV etc. Because there only interested in trying to sell us American cars in the UK I've had three mondeos including my current car absolutely love them been a Ford man for twenty years but no longer will probably be jaguar or Toyota next RIP Ford mondeo

It’s a real shame ford have cancelled any developments for a replacement, the mondao was alway a European car first, heck even bond drove one in its heyday, but now with the refresh 4 years old that was lacking sales aren’t what they used to be, and now ford believe everyone wants a suv which isn’t the case, to me ford have lost something when Dagenham and eu counterparts were shut down, even in this day and age where data can be sent in the blink of an eye you still cannot devep a one model fits all that starts with the words produced for the America market first, heck most America cars would be to big for a European market and shoehorning a 1 litre or 1.5 diesel instead of the original cars 3 or 6 litre gas guzzler and expected the same result, give us an s-max and Galaxy replacement the minicabs will buy them. But without eu development and testing and locally built engines it’s no wonder why the Koreans already into there 3/4 or even 5th gen model with good value have slowly worked into fords sales market

Meantime near zombie Volvo gets just cash and Chinese market access from econobox (china only) car maker Geely and voila! a reason for volvo car dealers to work hard. The only competitive Fords? Transit van and Ford Focus (fiesta at a push). The rest are dross and on offer for big fat discounts and used Fords at massive depreciating deals.
