Sonny is currently the best American slide player out there. Yes that includes Derek and all others. There is no contest…… none. Sonny is at the top of the Slide Guitar Pyramid. He’s the only player I have seen who actually plays notes behind the slide.. he gets so much out of it, and his phrasing is wonderful.. both of my ears thank him..
When EC just smiles and mouths”how do you do that” and Vince Gill says your playing is like algebra and he’ll never understand it….well….that’s Sonny. The REAL meaning of Unique.

I've seen him live several times and how he makes a guitar sound is amazing - he's the Mozart of the slide guitar.
