The guests have no preparation about the untrue stories they get. That is what makes it funnier. Sometimes you will get a slight glimpse on their face of shock or laughter before they even read the story. Most of the time though they are good at keeping a poker face. The absurdity of the story telling in the spot without preparation is what makes it funny. A big part of British humour in terms of shows like this is being thrown into a situation that you have not prepared for and just seeing how things unfold. We have a lot of brilliant panel shows her and personally I think most of them are absolutely hilarious. There is an almost childlike cheekiness to them. Lighthearted fun for all the family. A great escape from reality!
Yeah Rob Brydon had a bit of a brain fart half way through this, but I can understand how his brain could temporarily malfunction when he was trying to imagine David Mitchell in cowboy boots. 🤣
Just a point of fact, at a charity shop / thrift store the shoes do not come in boxes. Also the contestants do not know what is on the cards before they read them except for the person who is telling the truth of course.
They do know the guest and the story they’ve got in the ‘This is My…’ round however, which isn’t made a secret. So they do have time to come up with a story for it. You’re right about the cards though (in most cases, anyway. There have been some celebs who have been given their ‘card’ beforehand so that they can come up with a story… but that’s a different story…)
there's no "card" here though: they obviously do know the fake story theyre going to tell for the "this is my" round... have you watched this show before?
Charity shops in UK are where people give their second hand or unwanted items like clothing, shoes, books etc and the shop sells them and the proceeds go as donatations towards a certain charity, such as Oxfam..
Just a bit of trivia for you, but the likely reason Mitchell resorted to Medieval castle design to describe the shoes was he's a history graduate, and it seems from things others have said he particularly likes castles and the medieval period.
When are you guys going to start reacting to British comedy sitcom shows? We have so many over the last 60 years which I think you would love and get! Two of these shows starred two of the WILTY contestants! One is called Not Going Out and is written by Lee Mack (and he also stars in it), and the other one is called Peep Show, which stars David Mitchell. Not Going Out is PG rated, whereas Peep Show is more adult and is more of an R rated show, with swearing but it is absolutely hilarious (as is Not Going Out!)
im 58 years old, i did a few years ago but 2 pairs cowby boots, its was mainly for the designs on the boots, one tan pair one black pair, with bit of chain on them, This is when i realised, omg god ladies how do you walk in heels, these had the little heel on the back, i was walking like duck, or someone that had rectal exam day before, Hats of ladies, you are star's for many reasons, and that is one the heels
3:32...Good reaction Guys. Just one thing though, Nish Kumar's accent is South London-ish and James Acaster's is a slightly East Midlands one. They are not remotely similar 😱
Just a note, Acaster is pronounced with the stress on the first A. As Ay-caster. A charity shop takes in and sells items, the proceeds going to a charity, There are many of them and they are popular. Many of these people are quick thinking stand up comedians, guests can be anyone, but I don't know whether or not they get prior warning of what they will be faced with.
Hiya. FYI, surprise, surprise, Joe Lycett has had his work displayed at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in the past and I believe he was on display again this year. Stay safe. All the best to you.
i used to work nights in an Argos warehouse and caught someone sleeping in a huge box of basketballs... i left him there he was still there an hour later... then he got caught by management and got fired.
I spent a week's wages on a pair of cowboy boots when I was younger. Wore them once then gave them to a friend. They were very uncomfortable and didn't make me look at all cool. Horrible things.
Who knows but much as I love this show there is one particular, occasional, scenario in the usual game where I cottoned on years ago as to whether someone was lying and if I could see it then I am certain David and Lee can but go along with it for the Show Business side of the game:)
@@Isleofskye "and if I could see it then I am certain David and Lee can but go along with it for the Show Business side of the game:)" Now that you mention it I wonder after all these years whether they can tell if someone is lying now, what an amazing life skill to accumulate. I mean I am sure they couldn't tell every single time and I don't think you are saying that either. But if they know even 70% or 80% of the time that would be very handy in real life.
G'day Guys! Yes charity shops are like second hand stores but run by a charity to which people donate items they no longer need or want but it is usually clothing, furniture and some books and recording etc for the charity to sell...Cheers!
guys i see you react and love this panel shows, i know some things will get lost in translation culture and names, do you guys have anything like these shows in the US.
2 of the stories (David Mitchell with cowboy boots!?, the volleyballs ridiculous) were not credible, i was shocked 2 of them went for volleyballs, no wonder Lee overruled.
Cowboy Boots Why the pointed toe?? To be able to put the toe through the stirrup more accurately and easily than a normal boot. Why the two inch heel?? To better prevent the foot going all the way through the stirrup and getting tangled. Side note: One of the many uses of a six gun, is to prevent being dragged to death if your foot gets hung up in a stirrup. You can shoot the horse to save your life.
None of them know what’s going to be written on the card in front of them EXCEPT for the “This is my…” section where only one person knows the guest. Obviously the person who is telling the truth knows the guest is on, and for those bits alone the other two panelists get told maybe a half hour before. It’s meant to be enough time to get some semblance of a story thought up to back up their claim, but not enough time to really come up with a well-thought out story. Part of the fun is watching people scrabbling about to come up with answers off the cuff, so to speak.
Absolutely love this channel, been watching every release since the very beginning. But I'll be honest.... the "Alriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight" is really annoying at the start of videos 😉🙈🙈
Are volley balls hard or soft? I would have asked whether or not volley balls can be comfortable enough to sleep on. It seems to me balls would never be comfortable.
Please forgive this comment its meant to be light hearted. i know your wife jodie is only 5ft, but in this video, she is taller than you, i would love you to show how many cushions she is on, to get up to the good camera level, I ask, because my mother was short, back in the day, there was not much adjustment on car seats as there are now, mainly through the 70's, and she use to have 2 cushions to drive the car and reach the pedals, one she sat on to see out the window, another behind her to front her forward to the pedals, my grandfather was also short and did the same early 70's that i can remember.
No, they don't but it is satisfying to know whether one's instincts are correct and at 69 years old in London,I know that being competitive once I started my own Businesses ,at the age of 41, concentrated my mind wonderfully where before working in various forms for the Government (Local and National) I just drifted from day to day for over 20 years at work.
@@philjones45 Yes,M8. I drifted for 2 years in The Civil Service,16 years in a Nationalised Industry, and after having 2 years off , thanks to a redundancy package) then 2 years in local government and all I wanted to do for my first 22 adult years until I was 40 was See and play Sport and see Women(not, necessarily in that order). Good Luck:)
Nice to see Americans loving this British show and their humour.
It is a brilliant show with so many great guests.
It’s like an Easter Island statue 😅

Yes, a Charity Shop is what you call a Thrift Store. Proceeds go to cancer research or a local or national hospice, etc.

As soon as Nish said it was his friend I knew it couldn't be true.
Thank you guys for yet another great reaction to brighten up my start to the day. 👍😂🤣
People donate clothes, bric-a-brac books CDs to charity shops. They sell them the money goes to the charity that shop represents.

Hi N&J, Tears were rolling with this one, banter was top notch and you got 1 right! As ever love your reactions Cheers Jim, UK🇬🇧♥️🇺🇸✌️
Greg Davies on this show please, he is an ex teacher & it comes up in a number of clips…please 🙏🏻🙏🏻😆👍🇬🇧
I couldn't resist but watch this. Amy is such a beautiful sweet and charming woman. I love her.
She is very much like jodi.
Great reaction you two. ❤

You need to watch wilty raj Bisram magic trick it’s incredible
FYI, Ainsley Harriet is a well known U.K. TV cook/presenter. He’s also a big black dude 😅
With a bald head.
Without knowing it they may have also seen his face, via such memes as Give your meat a good ol rub, Time to oil up, Yea boiii etc.
Just to say guys, if you Google him it does actually look like Ainsley Harriott! 🤣🤣🤣
That reveal was hilarious.
Very perceptive Jodie, Nish is close friends with James Acaster, so if they sound similar to you, that might be why ❤

Joe Lycett is brilliant, you should search for him, he writes to companies just to wind them up.
It looks like something you’d see on Easter island
Miles Jupp, the man on Lee’s team, is one of the best contestants on this show, you should check out some of his clips

Have you heard the old saying Rugby is a game played by men with oddly shaped balls
Good call!

As for WILTY, my observation only applies to Non Comedians:)

I can’t stand cowboy boots either - the only person they should be on is a cowboy!
Why do Americans get so competitive watching WILTY and other panel shows? The scores don't matter.

Joe Lycett. His name alone makes my teeth itch. Not funny. Ripping off Julian Clary. He's just a blob.
Yep, he's an awful "comedian", not funny in the slightest.
