Great spot for the Yurt. Close enough to the chateau to keep an eye on things, and get a good night sleep in. And can always be moved to a more secluded place later, after Nick gets the woods sorted out.
I love that you are doing the yurt in that spot. It’s a great location. Also, love that ‘narrator Dan’ makes appearances while ‘builder Dan’ is working. That’s so cool
I think you will not get what you need . Just get a Trailor or an RV . Avoid the headachs. Supplies are slow, if they ever get there . I think Dan is starting to realize just how slow it is to get anything . Maybe just wasl away from the place for awhile and gather a group you can rely upon . Look how LaLand had some great and talented people surrounding them . They do their best to avoid the natives .
So glad you went for a Yurt. It will definitely serve you well. I have an old friend that has 2 in Oregon on his property down by Bend, Oregon. He's had them for years. You can call it Glamping. Build a nice platform for it and a DECK for BBQ'ing and entertaining.
What a great choice in choosing a yurt 🛖 you can continue to be on site, keep an eye on your chateau and the boys will see staying in a yurt as a huge adventure! We are all cheering you on! Well done Dan!! 🎉

The Yurt will be used for storage during Winter "most probably", if a roof (On the section he is working on) is put on they can "camp" indoors it's a far better prospect. Dan should be looking to put the roof on in September, but that might be a little tight as the walls at roof level will require stabilising and he has another two floors to put down and another two i beams to put in first, during the Winter he can continue inside in the section that he's completed the floors on, that "most probably" is his aim at present!?!
@@thomasherrin6798 I think he might want to skip the ceiling above the first floor for the time being and concentrate on a ring beam and getting the roof on. Considering the walls of the second floor are over 50 cm higher than the floor I can't really see how the mansard roof framing (let along the framing of a temporary roof) would rely on the floor joists. The ground floor ceiling should be in by next week, that leaves him all of August to get the walls done and start on some kind of roof in early September. There's a TH-cam video called "Charpente traditionelle de type "Mansard"" that shows the construction of a roof very similar to Dan's and I can't see any connection between the roof framing and the floor joists, it's all anchored to the walls via wall plates.
Real bad idea . That is how you get Squaters . France is getting tons of foreiginers into their country . Once these people are in it will be almost impossible to get them out . Ask yourself, just how did th Chaeutau burn down . Look at the sever damage . That was no accident . Be very careful in who you let in . I'd get a better Gate and taller fence .
A yurt up on a 3 ft high deck is perfect!! Nice wood stove in it for the winter. People live in them here in Canada where the weather is much colder -25 to -35 c in the winter. You will be fine in France. I’m so excited to see what you are getting and how it gets furnished. 🎉❤
That's going to be the perfect spot for the yurt! You can step outside in the morning and be greeted by your project! Also, you won't have to walk so far away if you need to grab something. And to your point, it's not permanent, so when you eventually move out of it and into the chateau, THEN you can move that to a more secluded spot! Also I love that commentator shot you did! You're really getting into this editing thing! :)
Dan, I have been following you since the early days. Your progress is SO exciting but I will be more than relieved when you have a roof on the chateau. So many of us are with you every step of the way.

Yurts are amazing and can be lived in in all types of weather and would be perfect for you. You are able to put wood burning stoves in them as long as it is properly installed. They really are a wonderful invention and hope it works for you Dan!
Ask Elon Musk for one of his homes . They are like Box home that can be put to gether by one person . A Yurt is a temporary Home and is best in a warm Climate, not a cold dam one like France .
A yurt is a wonderful idea. Like you said, it's cool looking but most importantly when it gets a bit colder you can put a wood burner in it. Obviously, the invitation to stay at La Lande in winter is always there. The kids will love the yurt, I'm sure.
I am so jealous!! You have grey skies and rain!! I am pining for a good hard shower, nay, showers... I hate the heat and it hates me. We are in a drought in the Pacific Northwest. Seeing your lovely rain is so soothing. Glad you are getting a yurt - you will be so much more comfortable.
I just discovered you a day ago. Got a couple of observations. 1) With all the rain why not collect it for all the concrete and mortar or lime use. 2) Why not make a proper ramp down the steps into the basement ( probably to late on that one) 3) Stair tower , but I heard you’re going to address it. 4) why not use the dump bed on the truck instead of handing the rubble many times. And lastly would love to be helping out with this project. Great job. Really enjoying the series. 👍👍👍
Your in for a treat with Dan. He is awesome, nice, hard worker, sociable, just plain enjoyable. A good friend to his viewers. He is just a lovely human being.
A wood stove with back boiler - lots of hot water for a shower. It's going to be great. Proper kitchen to treat yourself to proper meals. Tent as guest accomodation. And maybe Steph has a spare chandelier..!
It's so fun to watch you carrying the noggins from only one room to the next instead of up a ladder! It will be fun for your boys to stay in the yurt also, no leaky tent. Thanks for the extra weekend video.
The kitchen being dark is not a problem. Put in some fantastic beautiful lights on the ceiling and the walls and no problem. Great spot for the Yurt. Can't wait to see it up. Things are moving along!
Another day another floor, great work! Thanks for wearing the respirator when using the blower on the building tailings; I’ve been worried about the potential for asbestos and other ickies in the debris from the fire/collapse (I’m a toxicologist by training, so cant help myself…)
Dan, The beams and the floor are bringing it all together. YAY!, for you. The site for the yurt looks great. You and Nik will most likely have a good challenging and fun time setting it up. Cheers

Dan, you are looking more and more like the man of the woods, with your beard getting thicker, although it looks very well manicured! Very clever seeing two Dans again! Love the fact you are getting that Yurt. Then you can have a log burner inside for the winter. xxx
Thank you Dan for editing a video everyday. This is my truly inspiring moment before starting the day. It also give me strength and support to finish off my building homeworks. The way you undertake this construction inspired me for my proper house. Can a woman say that you are a model for everyone of us, courage and tenacity are the words that suit you the most. Thank you for all the hard work you do.
I can't wait to see the day come when the roof is put on and you finally get to see doors and windows going in this place that's really going to be exciting that's why I watch this show
Dan I think the Yurt is a good idea, it will serve you well while you are renovating the Chateau, it will be more comfortable in the long run than the tent I think. Lots of hugs, Kathy USA 🇺🇸
You can sort of imagine with those drone shots how those upper floors and the roof will make so much difference in the presence of the Chateau. Plus it looks like the views from the very top down into the valley will be breath-taking.
Yes, that's a very good idea to be near the chateau so that you can keep a close eye on everything there, protect it from intruders, vandals or thieves. Plus it will give you better living conditions while the construction goes on for who knows how long. Wise decision Dan.
Dan, you manage your daily work load very well, getting organized for the next day, completing tasks and thinking ahead. Well done! From my perspective it looks like you put in a full day’s work but are able to know better than to push yourself beyond what would be considered safe. Using “your good judgement” as my mother liked to say.
What an intro! You have an artist's eye. Your site for yurt is superb. Start on the hole for your outhouse while Nick's digger is there. Got a drawing of the upcoming roof framing? Gonna make your decking pretty like Martijn's???? Proud Patreon Susan in Virginia 🥰
As one of the people telling you to live in the basement, I'll admit dry can be good too! The yurt will be ace, and a nice little commute to the office... 😀
The beauty of the yurt is that it is somewhat portable. When you get to the point in the renovation when you want it out of sight of the chateau, you can move it farther into the woods. It also looks like it is going to be big enough to host guests and interns ... and a guard dog. ;)
A permanent guard dog sounds like an intelligent idea. You are famous now and a target for all kinds of villains. Beware!😮😢 the world's in a sorry state!
Glad you are going with a fairly big yurt. You will be living in it for a long time. Need to be comfortable. You can heat it, cool it, cook in it. Compostable toilet in it. bit water jugs in it. Will be a nice temporary home for you and the boys will LOVE it when they come to stay. so muc safer for them than a tent. Good Job Dad!!
No wonder the doggies looked sad in the last video, it was time to go back home. Hopefully they'll return for more stays. The Yurt will be a great little abode. Looking forward to that. Hoping for Sunshine 🌞 next week. ♡
😊 More important to be close to the chateau for security reasons than aesthetics from now on as word spreads locally that the place is no longer just a dump & a ruin and that there might be 'portable' items of 'interest' to local would-be help-yourselfers. Be absolutely heartbreaking to wake up one morning only to find that your tools and building materials had gone on safari overnight.
@@juliehilton1701 Not sure why you find it amusing. I come from a rural farming background and know only too well just how bad rural crime can be. It's a growing problem all over the world and the current cost of living crisis won't be helping matters anytime soon. Sticky fingers exist everywhere and always have.
I lived in a yurt tent for six months in the Catskills of NY & it wasn't ridiculously hard as long as you prepare. I even had an on-demand water heater for showers that I got on Amazon for 130$ I got a trough for a tub I had some electricity, a small fridge, a wood stove for the winter. It was deep .....but I did it and looking back it really was not that bad at all.If you have a REAL YURT it will be even easier in inclimate weather etc.
Great to see such massive progress. It certainly will be a game changer having the roof on! Miss the daily “Dan Fix” when you skip a day. Completely selfless of me of course, you are one busy guy!
Yes! I'm exited you decided to go with a yurt! It'll be awsome Dan! You'll need a platform before winter, but you'll have time to figure out if you're happy with the location first. From what I've seen on yurts on yt alone, only been irl in one teporarily set up) there are loads of options to maje a yurt very comfortable, insulated and warm, and they really have a cool spacial feel to them being round. 8 meters diameter is huge, you'll be so happy once you've got it in proper shape for living that you didn't go for a caravan. Also no chance of hidden issues either. And the boys will love it, I'm sure! Oh, and btw you'll now get a whole lot of yurt-related followers! 😉👌 Can't wait to see you get it up, kitted out with a log burner, beds and kitchen area, office and snug to enjoy with the boys ready for the cold season. Yurts are really awsome and I'm sure you can find all sorts of practical uses for it later on, when you move out of it. I saw a couple on yt that installed a section of 3 double glazed tall windows (or sliding doors, don't remember) and it looked fantastic! I'd link if I could remember the channel. Anyway, they lived in it for years, in climate with 4 seasons, even worked from home, and loved it! They also pit a domed glass window in the center of the roof and elevated the bed so they had a view of the sky and yree canopy from the bed. And it created loads of space under. This will be fun to see how you tweak it to Dan's place!🙌💕
I grew up in a small town in Texas called Liberty. When I was young there was a family named Chaumont. Huey Chaumont was very French, he owned a fancy shoe store called Chaumont's Shoes and a secondary shoe store called Pik A Shoe. They were a sweet family,
The yurt will be palatial compared to that tiny tent. Please get yourself a proper bed and mattress as it will be your home for quite some time so you deserve some comfort and to be off the ground. With a wood burner stove you'll be toasty in there in the winter. What's the situation regarding running water from the well? Presumably you'll rig up some kind of kitchen in there with a fridge. If you get an air fryer you'll be able to bake anything you want, they are brilliant.
From the Renovation to the vlogging you always leave me in awe. Love your journey and stamina. What an amazing adventure. I hope you're cozy in your Yurt, you deserve a place to rest comfortably. Dan the Man.
The yurt is a great idea. More mobile than a wood structure, and much larger than a tent or a caravan in the fall and winter months. The location keeps you near, but not right in the middle of the construction zone. Also, the trees surrounding it will provide some protection from wind and snow 👍🏻
Dan, I dont usually comment on videos, but day 2 here I am again. I am here for the construction, renovation, and one man’s journey. Not interested in the fluff from some of the other viewers inc your personal life. I hope its a good personal life, just not my business. You need a platform for the Yurt to sit on. If done correctly even the platform will be moveable to a future location for the Yurt. Set yourself up properly for all weather and year round living. Cheers.
Dan I'm astounded by how neat everything is you've done. You are clearly giving this your best attention to detail when restoring the ground work and structures. It's impressive and extremely satisfying to watch
I am SO excited you are getting a yurt to live in. Such a good idea and you’ll feel so much more settled and comfortable - and roomy - than a tent. Good idea.
🎉 congratulations 🎉 you’ve got the momentum going!!! I think the Yurt is a great idea!!! It will give you a larger space for all the different things you’ve got going like having a bit of an office and space for the boys and the dogs when you’re all together!! 😅 You can spread out a bit and settle in without feeling like you’re only in a tiny tent space where it can get crowded really easily!! 😂😂 Onward and upward Dan!! You Got This!! 😊
Just watched the video from nine months ago - just bought a hidden chateau. Wow. Even though I’ve watched every vlog I had forgotten what the chateau looked like at the beginning of all the hard work. Worth going back to see it! Amazing progress Dan.
You should build a wood platform to place your Yurt on. It will make a world of difference in the winter.
See Martin Doolards vlog, his tent is on an incredible platform. Happy days Dan.

Surely he will get the insulation layer. He will have to.
An RV would have been ideal but here we are!
@@StreetTruckinTitanRV's aren't well built or insulated so, he is likely far better off with the Yurt.
Yes, hopefully it's a "hot tent" with a hole for a stovepipe. Those little campstoves put off tremendous heat and he has plenty of logs to feed it.
A yurt would be a lot better than a tent, I've seen one with a little wood burner placed in the middle of the floor , real cosy for the winter months,

...Dan is like sunshine on a drizzly day...Dan's yurt will be convenient.....😁👍
I can't wait to see the day come when the roof is put on and you finally get to see doors and windows going in this place that's really going to be exciting that's why I watch this show
We missed you, Dan. Good to see you again. Let's enjoy the video!!! 🌿🌿🌿
It’s been too long
Who's we' do you have a mouse in your pocket??
The yurt will be great! Put it on a platform!! Very exciting Dan!
We once had a stunning Mongolian yurt here in Ireland, until a storm split it into pieces. It sat on a wooden platform, and it was sooooo cozy inside.
Amazing, cant wait to see the Yurt in place, keep up the hard work
Intro was magical Dan.
This is rural France, you need to go back 50 years in time to understand 😂
@@juliehilton1701 Not sure why you find it amusing. I come from a rural farming background and know only too well just how bad rural crime can be. It's a growing problem all over the world and the current cost of living crisis won't be helping matters anytime soon. Sticky fingers exist everywhere and always have.
The yurt site looks perfect. Close enough to keep an eye on the chateau but in the trees. 😘
Ah yah... a yurt that's actually brilliant idea 👌 Dan see every time I watch your blog it just keeps getting better and better 😀🌻😎👍
I love the spot. It will be like the yurt is your gatehouse!
Can't wait to see you get it up, kitted out with a log burner, beds and kitchen area, office and snug to enjoy with the boys ready for the cold season.
They were a sweet family,
Glad to see the proper scaffolding!!
Dan,
Put the tent inside the Yurt for your boys to play in. They’ll love it. It’ll be like their own room. ❤
Awsom a yurt ❤🙌👍😊 we getting posh now Dan❤
So happy for you 👌😎
The yurt will be palatial compared to that tiny tent.
That's a very good idea, buying a yurt, your children will love it
You got a lot done in preparation for the week. We were watching yurt videos to see what they are like yesterday. It’s going to be an exciting week.
Dan, you can tell we are all following and rooting for you! We will all be up on yurts pretty soon!
Nice to see you have a proper work area and some much better scaffolding.
Yurts are incredible. Very comfortable living .
The yurt is a great idea. More mobile than a wood structure, and much larger than a tent or a caravan in the fall and winter months. The location keeps you near, but not right in the middle of the construction zone. Also, the trees surrounding it will provide some protection from wind and snow 👍🏻
Well Dan...I now actually think you are crazy enough to see this major project to fruition 😊
Your progress is nothing less than astounding. I’m glad Dan 2 was there to help!
I am SO excited you are getting a yurt to live in. Such a good idea and you’ll feel so much more settled and comfortable - and roomy - than a tent. Good idea.
He has finally flipped, walking around in circles in the woods, new accom, exciting.keep on trucking Bro.
🎉 congratulations 🎉 you’ve got the momentum going!!! I think the Yurt is a great idea!!! It will give you a larger space for all the different things you’ve got going like having a bit of an office and space for the boys and the dogs when you’re all together!! 😅
You can spread out a bit and settle in without feeling like you’re only in a tiny tent space where it can get crowded really easily!! 😂😂
Onward and upward Dan!! You Got This!! 😊
The best way to end the day; a notification for an ETRF video notification! 🙌🏻
Can’t wait ……. Yurt arriving ….. this vlog is getting soooooo ADDICTIVE 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
That's more like it! Looking forward to seeing the Yurt 😀
Thank you for sharing your chateau progress and walking us through your thought process. I look forward to each and every video.😊
Just watched the video from nine months ago - just bought a hidden chateau. Wow. Even though I’ve watched every vlog I had forgotten what the chateau looked like at the beginning of all the hard work. Worth going back to see it! Amazing progress Dan.
You are such a hard worker and planner. Can’t wait for you to be more comfy and cosy in the yurt .👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼✅✅✅✅✅✅
