    "I just don't get the appeal of a small frame" it's me it was made for me lol
    I am obsessed with the idea of taking teeny tiny photos of random things even if they come out blurry dfsfh thank you for making the review!!!

    Great review!
    I think the Polaroid Go is definitely meant to be a "quick & casual" camera, like you said. The trouble, though, is that if something is quick and casual, you need it to reliably capture the image you expected. I like my Polaroid 600 because it encourages a more pensive/artsy approach, where part of the creative process is trying to account for the limitations/quirks of my camera. I like my Instax Mini 11 because my dog can do something weird and I can snap a picture of her and have a good-quality, *physical* record of a silly memory. Based on what you've said (and what I've seen elsewhere), the Polaroid Go doesn't manage to offer either of these situations to any great degree.

    I loved this review! But I personally like the small size for my scrapbooks diaries. That’s just me. But great review!!

    I think that Polaroid now can sometimes be a little impractical to carry in a camera backpack.
    Something I want to be able to do when I am out and want to photograph all day.
    Of which this polaroid go is perfect, however, I agree that the photo itself is a bit small and that the price is not directly the best.
    Especially since Polaroid now has had regular price drops down to $ 89 while the Polaroid go tempt to only go down to $ 99

    I think the flash is not a range issue, it's a ranging issue -- as in, the camera does still measure subject distance with the same sensor the Now uses for autofocus, and it calculates that into the aperture, shutter speed, and flash strength selection. It seems to just find the closest subject and expose for that, which happens to be your face in those selfies, but it can still light up a subject at about 3-4ft.
    As for the opinion side, pretty much everyone I've heard criticize the camera were professional photographers or at least very dedicated hobbyists, and everyone I heard who loves it was a lot more casual. I think it mostly depends on how much camera gear you're willing to carry on yourself everywhere.
    Personally, I kinda love the Go, and it replaced the Lomo Automat as my everyday carry camera. Previously, I had this tiny bag that the Automat took up on its own, maybe with a few of its mods included, now I can keep a Go in there, a box of film for it, a Pentax Auto 110, and I still have space for some essentials. And sure, the Automat is a more versatile camera with way better image quality, but that's not really the goal here, it is to stay out of the way until it's needed, and the Go is just better at that.
    But if you're willing to spend a bit more space and weight on your camera gear, you can also just carry an SX-70 everywhere and take full-sized pics, or bring a Now with you or something. I think that's the differentiator there. For people already used to carrying full-sized cameras on them all the time, the Go offers little value, and its quality (or lack thereof) is not worth the weight savings. For those who are not in this group though, it's basically like an Ilford Sprite but instant (and hella expensive, because it's Polaroid, duh).
    That said, I do wish it was different though. The lens is incredibly dull, if they just fixed that up it would immediately make for a better camera. The feature list is super watered down and honestly kinda disrespectful to the user's intelligence, the ranging is pure crap (they should really figure out a better solution, the shutter delay is insane if you don't half-press and wait before every shot, which itself is an AE-lock), and there's no reason they couldn't have executed all of these better within the same body. Plus, it's just expensive. They make their money on the film anyway, not the camera, why keep up the $100 price tag?
    However, on the plus side, the Go is a nice license to take Polaroid a lot less seriously, which can be kinda refreshing. I also really like shooting "b-roll" photos on Go film to accentuate the full-sized pics, the tiny square just works perfectly for that. I really hope they make an updated variant, even just sticking a better lens on the camera, coupled with the insane stuff they've done to the film formula this year, would make for a formidable casual cam.

    For me the benefit of the small format would be being able to add photos to my journal.

    This camera makes me angry and sad at the same time. The camera is beautiful, a tiny (almost keychain sized) but fully functional (on paper) camera which feels great in the hand. But at the same time the hardware inside the nice shell is absolute shit. The flash seems to be weak (or at least badly calibrated for the exposure), there’s no exposure compensation option, the lens is very soft (even being f22ish) and it’s incredibly unreliable regarding exposure. I’ve used it with several film packs and most of the photos come out completely unusable, badly underexposed. I’ve seen several comments of similar experiences to mine.
    The format is indeed tiny, if it would be used with a competent camera it might be fun, but with the Go camera is just a waste of money.
    This is why I used the innards of my Go camera to make a custom instant TLR, I’m almost done with the project and the initial results are promising. Portraits with it seem like a great use for the tiny format. The colors and contrast (again, when correctly exposed) seem to be exactly the same as the 600/I-Type film (no surprise there, as they use the same emulsion/negative). It can be very sharp, too.
    Maybe someday Polaroid will release a slightly better Go camera (a mini Now+ without bugs, mind you) so the format could be redeemed.

      Are you in the discord?? You should join the discord if you aren't. Im super interested in how you used the innards, and I'm sure a bunch of people there would be too!! Thanks for sharing your thoughts

    Cutesy frames and this instead of 10 pics a pack and better chemistry. Weird priorities, Polaroid!

    Feels a bit like Polaroid got the idea behind this camera when they were in Japan and saw a Gachapon machine featured a tiny Polaroid camera.

    I have heard that they are just using the machinery they used for Spectra film to make the Go film. Could explain it. Also, I recently shot a pack from the last batch of Spectra film... it... um... it's way worse than your Go pics.

      @SweetLouPhotography  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @tresto9514 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SweetLouPhotography that's why I ordered a pack from eBay this summer for a pretty stupid price, just to get that special Spectra feel again (even though I knew it would include beating the sh*t out of the camera so it would eject the film). The photos came out quite terrible and therefore not that special, but I'm glad I tried. I will probably miss Spectra forever, it was my favourite film format (and I shoot Instax, Polaroid, 35mm, 120 just to give you an idea about how special Spectra was to me).
