NYC Bus | 2011 - 12 New Flyer Xcelsior XD40 Review

- This is now my 2nd remake since February 2019. These 4800 series are known as the very first XD40s to help diversify NYC with seductive to NYCT bus service.
These XD40s are good Xcelsiors, but not as best as their youngster I prefer. I enjoy seeing these buses since mid-2013. I mostly get into these buses it of ENY Depot, mainly on the B17. When on the B15 route, they need extra protection when running through rough neighborhoods. But on the other hand, they make great engine speeds(plus the LBSS) on highways to and from JFK Airport. Also, #4821 is ENY's most famous unit due to it's attentive noise as if it can withstand any though moments. When I transferred to working at ENY Depot, I miss my memoir of testing #4813 as my first 4800 series XD40 I drove from that depot with my cousin. Moving to Ulmer Park Depot, their XD40s are more unique. One of them are, being implemented with 'Pedestrian Turn Warning Alerts', an announcement for turning cautioncy voiced by Sara Weaver. #4872 was Amy first ridden unit with this feature in early Winter 2017. Additionally, #4899 is a most awarded 4800s unit with a rear vent panel, portraying XN40s being produced until we got these since 2016. That Navistar engine is not match for an Xcelsior, but a Cummins engine work to meet the city's EPA request.
See something, I hit both Ulmer Park and East New York Depot for these XD40s performances to start/resume service. I gave a major shout-out to 'New Flyer Industries', for making these highest seductive buses yearly. Even, helping NYC diversify seduction of bus service citywide.

These are much better today, than they were in 2012 and 2013.
I remember I first saw these on the B6. I also remember how good the engines sounded.
Great Review Cedric, I Remember Riding The 2011 Xcelsior XD40’s On The S46 & S48 On My Way To Middle School & Home, When Castleton Used To Have Those, I Rode These Few Times On B1, B64 (Ulmer Park) & B82 (Your Work Place AKA East New York Depot), Those Were My Favorite XD40’s Of All Time, So Great Review Once Again Man & Thanks For Using My Two Videos Of Those Buses

I rode the 2011 XD40s on the B6 back in 2017.
Lol they have the back doors of a C40LF, I think they thought that the back doors didn’t need full glass pain even tho it’s the bus of the future lol.

I was thinking the same thing. I don’t like Orion VII Hybrids anymore. Although I won’t forget the D60HFs, even though they are kind of inconvenient.
I just saw the video, and assumed that. Ulmer Park and MJQ probably had the most unique RTSs and XD40s. For example, 4899 and 7540, as well as the LED signs from only those depots. The destination signs out of MJQ and Manhattanville are weird.

I agree with your rate. The seats are a little too close together, and the rear doors are not in full-pane. 4899 is my least favorite unit. That also counts as 7540, a 2018 XD40.
Also I remember catching 4813 on the B25 when I was on my way to my uncle's house
Nice! I remember when I first saw one on the S46 and I rode some a few times on the same route. Since then, even though I prefer the LFS exterior (Preferably the Diesel Model), the Xcelsiors are the best transit buses.
Did I tell you, why Castleton no longer have these buses ?
Wasn't it in favor for the Orion VII Third Gens or something?
Castleton Depot was known for driving speedy. And at times they crash, mostly happened to the NG HEVs they had. So with the Xcelsiors as expensive buses to replace, they trade them with Ulmer Park for the 3Gs.
You know what. Now that I remember, I do recall some buses on the S40 and S46 flying down the block at times. Even one time when I was coming home from High School, one operator on the Orion V was slamming on the breaks a few times. Thankfully, it was one driver though.
I never got a chance to hear the audio of 4899 with the MaxxForce Engine, well now I got a chance!
Oh, you remember my last remake from a year ago. I put a MaxxForce 9 audio in the review. Also, it now has the Cummins since late 2013.

Those are the Aesys Signs for 7572-7614. The rest and like the 2011 and 2014-15 XD40s have the Luminator MAX LEDs.

I find it funny that the 2011-13 XD60s have lower numbers than the XD40s. Since the 2011-13 XD60s are in the 4700s and these XD40s are in the 4800s. And I love the transmission. It reminds me of the D60HFs.

Today, the number is on the top right of the rear. Though, it was the only one to have it under the grill

They were sent to Brooklyn due to Queens Village needing LFS to fulfill mileage expansion. Brooklyn needs them to push RTS retirement and to make a data reach for more Xcelsiors to come to Brooklyn.
