    The problem starts with the definition of a "winning season". Their definition is - More wins than losses. My definition - Making the playoffs via a divisional champion and winning 2 or more of them.

    I just read where he was given credit for getting his team into the playoffs, despite having one the worst offenses (statistically) in the NFL. But, here is the rub, IT IS HIS OFFENSE! He built it, he hired the coaches who coach it! He is the most influential voice over player personnel and scheme. Incredible, he starts the fire and then gets the credit for putting it out. It is amazing how dumb the national media talking heads can be.

I’m very appreciative that I’ve got to see the cowher days in the 90s and early 2000s and seeing the Tomlin years but as of now the Steelers need a fresh coat of paint, a new scenery. The Cowher era was great. Cowher would mix things up & keep the opposition on its heels. Take today’s game. Steelers kept running into a brick wall repeatedly for 1 yard to try to establish the run. Cowher would want a run game too but he’d mix it up. He’d throw a pass to set up the run. Sometimes he’d hit you with an intermediate route to a TE or a skinny post, or a short pass for a 5yard gain. Then say he had you in 2nd medium, he may go run then or hit you with playaction. And if he had to he’d run on 3rd or do playaction then. It was rarely run, run, pass, punt. He also had a formula for winning. If he was in the lead, he would sit on the ball & squeeze the life out of the clock. It was a thing of beauty to watch. He got the most out of his players. He had some of the worst QBs in NFL history to work with & they were still competitive. He lucked into getting Ben & walked out when he shouldn’t have. If he had stayed, we’d be talking 3 more SBs with Ben. He’d have never let Ben get super pass happy playing five wide all the time. That’s what did Ben in & ended the championship way. Cowher was a master strategist & I will always prefer him to MikeT. Mike T just seems haphazard & forced in his approach. I just don’t get the allure with him, never have & never will. His playoff record says it all. And the game unfolded like I expected today.

    • @brian5863
      @brian5863 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Cowher wasn’t afraid to have coaches that knew more than him in certain situations run the game plan that’s how we ended up with Dick Lebeau and a defense that was historical under Cowher and an offense that was balanced. Cowher had his closer in Bettis a guy who chewed up the clock to close out games and he was recorded time and again giving his man that power.. he was able to allow coaches to control things, same with Belichik. Tomlin tried to control every single thing and has hired a bunch of yes men on his staff after getting rid of the ones that fought him tooth and nail on what should be done. Ben too.. many times he and Tomlin had disagreements caught by the cameras it just shows why the team wins under tomlin and loses under tomlin. But tomlin never takes any blame for the results he likes to blame players as if he’s unable to make bad choices putting them in situations that set them up to fail. Coddling star plays as admitted by tomlin himself created a culture of divide and lack of leadership. The core mechanics of a team that soldiers a group into a winner is always missing vs Cowher that would create that as his culture that would succeed in ways not expected.

    @colten53 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

    The sad thing is that we can exactly pinpoint where the 14 point swing occurred and what led to it. If we’re being honest, the team had the capability to win today and strangely enough it was the offense that gutted it out and made it close. Yet again though, we probably wouldn’t be playing in Buffalo as the 7 seed if we had simply started Mason Rudolph earlier. Tomlin’s clock management was poor as ever, and some of the playcalling was terrible such as ruining a great drive with consecutive Najee runs down 14 and going 5 wide on the goal line. I’m scared they might just keep Faulkner/Sullivan as OC when in reality the offensive turnaround wasn’t because of them, it was the absence of Canada, Mitch, and Kenny to a lesser extent

  • @nascarandy10201
    @nascarandy10201 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    Tomlin really needs to re evaluate himself. He needs to be honest with himself. For me, it was the Matt Canada debacle. Matt Canada should never have been brought back for a third season. Pretty much everyone could see that. Then...He keeps Trubisky going for 3 straight games as our playoff hopes were evaporating. It's like "here, give me that gun so I can shoot myself in the foot and see if I can still have a winning season and make it to the playoffs to lose". I'm worried about him bringing KP back as starting QB as well as you guys. It would be a disaster. It's bad enough we don't have the salary cap, nor the place in the draft to get another QB, and Rudolph has actually performed pretty well. All he wants is a chance to start for a season. He'll give up money to start this team, guarantee it. But he'll bring back KP and let Rudolph walk, and we'll end up with a sucky KP, and no back up. Then there's the issue of OC. Is he going to bring in another Matt Canada type? Are we going to get someone who is even worse?
    Sad thing is, he has the talent and skill, and potential to take a team to the Super Bowl. But he just doesn't put his "all" into it. He's a "winning season" HC. Maybe it really is time.

The seasons they didn’t win it all, a lot of them were just like these, 10 win seasons and blow out in the playoffs, 8-8, losing seasons. Glad you admitted you don’t know about those times because we’ve been here and seen this before. Coach T didn’t bring an unready team to play in buffalo, the problems we’ve ignored for so long have come to roost. You guys grew up like me in the days of the bus porter Foote Troy Clark Taylor Ben ward Hampton and one of the best o lines in the league for a long time. We could win every way with that cast and two hall of fame coaches. We don’t have those guys now and we don’t have those things. We need to build an o line and we started that with Broderick. Got some new talented receivers just gotta learn to use them. Build the team and then get the qb that’s how it rolls. We got a qb first and you can’t do that for a feel good story. We have to face these simple facts and work to address them which we are on the right track. I’m gonna ride and see the next few years.

    I absolutely feel so bad for Cameron Heyward i really don't know what to say about how much i appreciate him he's the heart and soul to this i really want him to get one shot one shot in his career at becoming the Super Bowl Champions Mr.Heyward will be pro football hall of fame but not just yet he needs a ring really really badly i absolutely hate to see his career go do wrong although we may have finished a winning year non-loosing season but that's nothing for him he needs a ring now and i can't believe I'm saying this but if a coach will pick up the phone like Dan Campbell Demeco Ryan's or John Harbaugh and say hey Mr.Heyward you wanna come play for me so we can get you that super bowl ring you wanted?he has no choice or no option

    I was born in 1990. My first Steelers game was the 1995 Super bowl lost to the Cowboys. The Cowher Era was the best! Cowher was the Man! He was a defense coach who knew how to hire good OC. The Cowher Coaching Tree became a thing cause other teams kept taking are good OCs to be Head coachs not us firing guys. If Cowher had Ben early he would of won more Super bowls. Tomlin inherited Cowhers team and won a ring that Cowher would of won for us too if he didn't retire.

He saw nothing alarming about Canada's OCing of the offense for two years. Let that sink in and then ask yourself is this really the best for both parties to continue with him being the head coach. Edit - Oh yea the Pass coverage in Pittsburgh has been awful for 8 years in the playoffs, you get smoked by air yards since the Brady days...isnt that Tomlin's calling card?

    Regardless of how uncomfortable or difficult a question might be, as a head coach you have an obligation to stand there and take it from the media. Their questions, their prodding and their annoying statements. That’s part of the job as a leader, being the face of the team and speaking on their behalf. Instead, in the most childish fashion, he storms off because he didn’t like the question. Homie, YOU put yourself into this situation now reap what you sow.

    • @Hiddenshadow76
      @Hiddenshadow76 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Steelers would never end up like the Jets or the Commanders because, unlike those two organizations, the Steelers are vastly superior at evaluating talent, excluding linebackers and safties to a degree. The only things the Steelers need is a better punter, a better center, one more offensive tackle, one more safety, and maybe one more defensive lineman. Also, it is a common misconception to fans that making the playoffs with a new head coach is that much harder than a head coach who coached for 17 seasons. They may not make it the first year, but over time, the new head coach develops a team identity, which, once in place, can generate several seasons of perennial contendors after a couple of years. The key is to hire someone good for head coach. It's not always sunshine and rainbows, and it may take 2 or 3 different hires to get the right one. But that's the problem. This organization is unwilling to go out of their comfort zone and make sweeping changes once and a while, and I'd argue Mike Tomlin has more than earned a firing from the organization after several seasons of mid football that hasn't achieved any meaningful results. If you keep hanging on to the same thing over and over again, it runs its course eventually. It's really not a hard concept to understand.
