When you consider that a lot of these picks were later in the draft bc the Steelers were good that makes it even more impressive how there's only 2-3 true "busts" here

Agree about shazier, so sad. And I think bush will get better, same with edmunds. Harris is gonna end up being top 5 by the time his career is over in Pittsburgh
I think as of right now Pouncey, Hamptom and Holmes deserve to be much higher on the list than Hayward and Watt. Although those 2 have time to win championships.
Casey Hampton is IMO the most underrated Steeler of all time. Outside of Mean Joe Greene, he's the best defensive tackle in Steelers history and the best of the 3-4 "Blitzburg" Era. The Steelers were a Top 5 defense every season of Hampton's prime and that's no coincidence.
Great video Yinzburgh 👍🏻! Tough to beat your Top 10. I wish there was a way to get Shazier in there, but who would you take out? I feel, if his injury didn't happen, we would have 2 DPOY's playing for us right now. Jarvis Jones was by far the worst of them all, probably because we expect excellence from our Pass Rushers. I'd say Timmons & Miller are my favorites from the whole list, aside from the HOF's you have in the Top 5 of course! I can't wait for tomorrow, I'm 🙏 for Jordan Davis to fall to us, that's my dream pick. Based off production I agree with 90% of the list. I know Tj just tied the sack record, but Heyward has been doing his thing for 11 seasons. The fact he's been playing that long makes him top 3 for me. Watching him change direction and sprint 20 yards in the opposite direction to chase down a Rb, or wide receiver is so impressive. Tj is great, but Cam got 11 years. Cam 3, Tj 4, everything else is perfect
As always, Yinzburgh, awesome video. Thank you for it. It's been mentioned how the STEELERS have only a few busts in the 1st round. This is the exact year I started watching the steelers 2000...this video gives me tears of joy. I really wish I can relive that Era all over again, in the words of Dewey Cox "It was a beautiful ride". Let's Go Pickett!
No doubt that Troy was the better player (DPOY, one of the 5 best safeties all time), but I understand completely why Ben is number one. After Terry Bradshaw, these are the QB's we had: Cliff Stoudt, Rick Strom, Bubby Brister, Neil O'Donnell (yes, I still have nightmares due to his "performance" in the Super Bowl), Mike Tomzcak, Kordell Stewart and Tommy Maddox. It took Pittsburgh 22 years to find their next franchise quarterback (Bradshaw's final full season was 1982, a strike shortened season) so I absolutely get Ben at number one.
Was cool watching this. Quite a few names I had forgot. Also. I think a great follow up to this would be the players that were not 1st rounders that ended up being Steelers monsters. Both later picks, and or Undrafted players. quite a few would fit in that.
I would argue that Troy is the best to ever play his position. Top 3 at least. For that reason I would put him #1. Can’t really argue against Ben at 1 though either. Good stuff. Thanks for the flashbacks. Oh and Hambone is #3. He is one of the goats at DT.
Great video! I would agree with the rankings. I remember when we drafted Ben. I was SO EXCITED! I got right on to madden and created him and was so bummed he didnt have a face lol!
Not sure about Hampton being in front of Heyward at this point. Cam has 3 first team all pros and the same amount of pro bowls as Hampton. If Cam has 3 more good seasons, he likely gets very serious HoF consideration. Great video
I love Miller, but I'd put DeCastro above him since he was the top guard in the league for a while. And maybe swap Hampton with Heyward, since Heyward is 2nd only to Aaron Donald currently. Overall crazy to how successful Colbert has been in just a single round!
GREAT TOPIC. Pics #21 (Jones) & #20 (Burns) were SO BAD they might be the worst of the era. In all seriousness though, Colbert, Rooney & Tomlin I feel deserve a SOLID B to A- in this era.
Great video! I would put Plaxico above Mendenhall. Great as Santonio was (SB MVP and The Catch) I probably take Heath and Pouncey's longevity over him. However, if you put him there mainly for the Super Bowl and overall playoff performance, I can't blame you. Overall, the Steelers really don't miss on the majority of their 1st round picks and it reflects with their consistent success.
Ughhh Artie Burns...what a reach. I was completely baffled steelers drafted him so high. I remember watching that draft in shock. I saw the Watt draft too! That was a great one! My raider fan buddy talked so much crap that night about TJ and how crap he was going to be 😂
I would have to think long and hard about the placement of #1 and #2 on this list. Polamalu is without a doubt the best safety to ever play the game. You could make an argument since he's higher at his own respected position than Ben is , maybe he should be #1. But then again, Roethlisberger was a big part to both Superbowl pushes in the 2000s, and probably wouldn't have happened if it weren't for him. And of course he went on to keep us relevant for 18 years without ever having a losing season (something Favre, Rodgers, Brees, Manning, and Manning couldn't do).
Haha....my mistake. They mentioned Tommons several times during the Ziggy Hood clip. Was mind blown thinking they had him ranked that low. Top 10 is much more fitting. Still think 12 is too high for Mendenhall.
Holmes had a SB MVP & clutch plays throughout the 08’ playoffs that brought #6 back to the Burgh’. Anyone who brings Super Bowl’s back to the Burgh’ gets crazy points in my book. I 100% agree they both had better careers
He was a great Steeler no doubt. He absolutely balled out in SB43. But I personally wouldn't put him top 10 over 1 game. I'd have him right above Shazier.
@@FrostyAustey He also had a big TD in the AFC championship game & the punt return in the divisional round - with a clutch catch earlier in the season to win the AFC North. Its all personal preference, end of the day
I would have najer higher. He has been solid inspite of circumstances and has won us numerous games just by getting 1st downs. He sesled the win in bens last game at heunz field with a td run
Agreed. Just based off Bush's rookie year alone. Now you may argue where Bush was drafted he should have been much better than Hood, but I think this year will tell us if Bush is a bust or one year wonder.
I can see it. Bush had a good year #1 but based on last year, Bush won’t see a year 5 if he repeats 2021. Hood did make some decent plays in his career & had a rather long one too. Not Jarvis Jones bad just not first round great (Hood was selected 32nd overall)

I dont know how you can have Hood above Edmunds and bush. Edmunds has been a decent starter for a few years and will be again this year. Bush had at least some good games. Hood was never even starter caliber.
Kendall Simmons over Najee Harris, yikes. Or even bud Dupree over Najee. I loved bud Dupree, wish we still had him. But Najee is gonna end up breaking Steelers rushing records. I’m predicting it now
I agree. I think they ranked Santonio that high because of that catch, which is understandable. But judging his whole career, I think it he was slightly above average. I think Ben made him look better than he actually was.
@@ItzYinzburgh id put najees overall performance last year against any of mendenhalls years...not just running but also in the receiving game...and najee never puts the ball on the ground...only exception was when he was clearly too injured to play but forced himself too cuz behind him they had nobody
@@seanmanahan477 Mendenhall’s 2010 season was pretty good. Protected the ball well (except one particular game) Rushed for 13 TD & 1273 yds. His performance against The Jets in the AFC Championship game was great too.
@@ItzYinzburgh 4 years starting with steelers he had 9 fumbles...1 year with cardinals he had 4 alone lol...he was ok not the surest handle with the ball....there were many times I remember watching him nearly having a heart attack cuz the way he always carried it away from his body...not just in that one game lol it was a weekly thing
Burns had some flashes of being a decent corner early on & he was a bit of a reach the first round. Jarvis was just pretty bad all around, especially for how high of a prospect he was
How tf do you put Rashard Mendenhall at 12? Dude was an injury prone bust who fumbled away a Super Bowl. Also, I like Big Snack but he wasn’t better than Cam. Heath Miller should also be higher than Santonio Holmes just because he was just as big a part of the offense for much longer
Ben threw 2 picks in the same game, it’s a tired scapegoat. Team got torched when it mattered by Rodgers. He had 3300 yds 29 TD in a 3 year stretch & carried the Steelers offense in the AFC CC game against the Jets. He may not have been Bettis but he performed well in the long run, but he had plenty of great games & moments, he’s not a top tier pick but I think bottom half is fair.
Troy could definitely be #1 on many others. For me it’s the longevity, the drought of QB’s between Ben & overall success. Steelers had defensive talent for years (Woodson, Lloyd, etc) and couldn’t translate it to super bowls until Ben.
No way, Ben is potentially the greatest Steeler ever drafted. No disrespect to the old greats but comeback wins, approximate value and immediate impact on the city alone… It’s Ben.
@ItzYinzburgh Agree with you on what Timmons brought to the table but comparing the 2 MLBs Ryan Shazier is the better all around player at his position regardless of his career being cut short by an injury that could happen to any player.
Holmes is too high. If he would have stayed in Pittsburgh and continued to play well sure but his career was over when he went to jets. And harris will be higher in a few yeats
@@MultiMdog123 Check the game before, they’re e probably not even in the Super Bowl without Rashard. Our HOF QB threw quite a few turnovers during that stretch too
@@ItzYinzburgh whilst Edmunds has never been a pro bowl talent he has been way more consistent than Dupree was. A guy who has constantly been a starter and gotten better every season since he came into the league. Same can't be said for Dupree who wouldn't ya know as soon as he goes to a team needing pass rush help he's not very good. Edmunds should be higher because of his consistency. And even Najee has an argument but I do agree it's too early to put him over Dupree yet since Najee hasn't even entered jis sophomore season yet
@@thesteelcurtain9025 There’s a reason Edmunds did not sign a deal over the off-season. Edmunds was paid like a practice squad player. Not a huge PFF fan but the grades are indicative of their performance level. His 2020 season was just about it. Bud was causing pressure throughout his career, legitimately got better each year
@@ItzYinzburgh I see your point but at the same time isn't there also a reason we didn't re-sign Bud Dupree? Based off his first year in Tennessee he's a system player. Not saying Edmunds isn't a system player but I personally don't think that can be determined until Edmunds is actually gone and can't succeed somewhere else. I think that's the big separator for me.
@@thesteelcurtain9025 Bud did get franchise tagged until the ACL tear. $15 million for just the year - His pay year came on the same year as TJ. With Minkah’s contract coming up after, Bud was expendable, especially with the Steelers valuing Highsmith
I feel cam and Casey need to be switched Cam is better than Casey and far more versatile than Hampton ever was love big snack but he's just not as good in my opinion.
Not really since most of those players have barely begun their careers. Troy would be near last on this if we only had his rookie season to go off from. And there is plenty from the last decade. DeCastro was 2012, Heyward (Who I personally think got underrated in this, he's been playing just behind Aaron Donald in terms quality, and I think Heyward is better than Hampton) was in 2011, Watt was in 2017. But its hard to rank players who are still just starting their NFL resumes rather than ones that already finished theirs.
So many amazing players. That Steeler culture, their is no substitute.

I agree. I think they ranked Santonio that high because of that catch, which is understandable. But judging his whole career, I think it he was slightly above average. I think Ben made him look better than he actually was.
Timmons was rated to high
there is no way in hell that mendenhall was a better pick in the first round than najee harris yall got that one wrong point blank
Point blank it isn’t a knock on Najee. It’s just bc he’s played 1 season. He’ll pass Rashard in no time 🖤💛
@@ItzYinzburgh id put najees overall performance last year against any of mendenhalls years...not just running but also in the receiving game...and najee never puts the ball on the ground...only exception was when he was clearly too injured to play but forced himself too cuz behind him they had nobody
@@ItzYinzburgh most yards from scrimmage he had in one year was 1440...najee had almost 1700 his rookie year alone with an abysmal oline hahaha
The creator has some bias against Naj. He's only now getting into his prime. Sad. Other than that. Pretty good list.
This was years ago now
i personally think artie burns was the worst
Burns had some flashes of being a decent corner early on & he was a bit of a reach the first round. Jarvis was just pretty bad all around, especially for how high of a prospect he was
@@ItzYinzburgh eh ok
Burns > Jarvis
To me… Polamalu would be Number 1
Troy Polamalu should be number 1, no doubt.
Troy could definitely be #1 on many others. For me it’s the longevity, the drought of QB’s between Ben & overall success. Steelers had defensive talent for years (Woodson, Lloyd, etc) and couldn’t translate it to super bowls until Ben.
I disagree with Bell over DeCastro for the simple fact that we all know: There is no Le’Veon Bell without DeCastro & the Steelers OLine.
Le’Veon isn’t in this video
@@ItzYinzburgh Yeppers, Lev was round 2!
Forgot minkah 😂
You need to change the 1 and 2, Troy should be number 1
No way, Ben is potentially the greatest Steeler ever drafted. No disrespect to the old greats but comeback wins, approximate value and immediate impact on the city alone… It’s Ben.
2 busts basically
TRY and tell me you could do HALF as well
No way Rashad Mendenhall and Lawrence Timmons should be higher than Najee Harris and Ryan Shazier.
Timmons all day, he held up for a long time & was dependable on the SB squad. This was made years ago as well, Najee had a season under his belt
@ItzYinzburgh Agree with you on what Timmons brought to the table but comparing the 2 MLBs Ryan Shazier is the better all around player at his position regardless of his career being cut short by an injury that could happen to any player.
big Ben's only number 1 cause they never tried troy at qb
Holmes is too high. If he would have stayed in Pittsburgh and continued to play well sure but his career was over when he went to jets. And harris will be higher in a few yeats
Shazier and Timmons swap
All i will say is everyone on this list is lucky Chad Scott was ineligible.
we really putting mendenhall over anyone? let alone najee?
yes, as of today even over najee
@@ItzYinzburgh I'll agree to disagree lol, that SB fumble still leaves a bad taste in my mouth🤣
@@MultiMdog123 Check the game before, they’re e probably not even in the Super Bowl without Rashard. Our HOF QB threw quite a few turnovers during that stretch too
Bud should not be that high. He had 1 mediocre season and 1 good season then left.
and the guys behind him? Burress had 2 good seasons & bounced. Najee has only played 1.
This list is absurd 🤣 Ben is number 1 and Troy isn’t?? WHAT BRO🤣
How so? Maybe one was at the top of their position but one defined the last twenty years of Steelers’ football
@@ItzYinzburgh true true after Bradshaw was gone they didn’t have a qb for 20 years
@@ItzYinzburgh so yea Ben would be at 1 for sure
All the recent draft picks have been the worst.
What do you consider recent? I think Najee has potential to be a very good one.
I feel cam and Casey need to be switched Cam is better than Casey and far more versatile than Hampton ever was love big snack but he's just not as good in my opinion.
funny how the bottom half of the list has all been the last 10 years and the top half of the list was almost all 2000-2010
Not really since most of those players have barely begun their careers.
