Great review and amazing footage! Appreciate you keeping it a buck because people always except miracles out of the equipment forgetting the operator plays a huge role.
I’ve had my Float for about a month now and I must say, this review was spot on. All of the tips and advice to get it balanced is exactly what I experienced in my first week. This is the review we’ve all been waiting for - especially the advice to less experienced film makers at the end. Well done 👍🏻
And there is the crux of the problem with this. The armor man is easier to set up and more balanced over the shoulders and lower back. But its more expensive and out of the reach of amateurs. The float is more affordable but needs more professional handling and setup. So is it a fail? :)
Thanks for your input Jonathan. I think the Armor Man and the Float are two different categories of stabilisers. I own an Armor Man 2/ Mövi Pro Combo and this setup is mainly made to be able to fly heavy rigs for a longer time. The Float however offers more creative and smooth shooting options for more lightweight setups. At the end of the day both setups can be used professionally and imho, neither is a fail :)
@@MichaelEgglerFilms Thanks for the response. I was being slightly provocative using the word fail but in reality it is a clever product if you are prepared to invest time and effort. I just think its at a pricepoint where curious amateurs may purchase it and be frustrated. But with practice and effort I am sure most can make a success with this. They seem to have revised the contents in the most recent shipments to include 2 shoulder straps. One in the foam section and another in a pocket in the lid.
@@theJon5 you are right, the pricing is very competitive. And that‘s yet another thing I like about todays options on the market - better tech is available for more creators. Cinematic footage is no longer reserved for a small elite who can afford the tools to create it.
@@MichaelEgglerFilms Anything new you've learned about the Tilta Float since then? Have you thought about making a follow up video after more practice?
The problem with these hybrid steadicam - gimbal set up is that you still need deep steadicam operator experience (1 or more year) so that your hip's movements don't transfer to the arm. Yes the up and down z-axis movement is reduced or eliminated but now you are transferring hip movements into the arm. This is perfect for an experienced steadicam operator but not a novice.

Thank you Karol! I only used my smartphone in this scenario because it worked so well with the cams, but the mounting option on the float allows monitors like the Ninja V. You can of course use the Nucleus wireless focus units from Tilta. There is a switch on the thumb control where you can change between DJI focus and Tilta. nice review and very useful to know all the intricacies of the tilta float .... which now it is clear that it is not a product for me, although a very appealing concept. I cannot really see the target for this product, as you have to be kind of a professional to handle the system .... but at the same time, the real professionals will not use this probably and will have other types of cameras with a focus puller.

Hi! Thanks for your comment and the kind words. I think almost all the magic happens in balancing. I balanced it in a way that I have to use minimal force for any adjustments. The other key is to walk carefully and steady and have good control over your hip movement. Maybe mount it slightly higher/lower in your case? Also keep in mind that this takes practice. I‘ve used glidecams/gimbals for years and probably have a decent „feeling“ for this type of gear. Good luck my man😎
How do you find it helps in regards to the weight distribution of heavier setups? I use the bmpcc6k pro on the rs2 and although it's incredible, i find after a few hours of shooting that my back is in bits. Ideally this would help distribute the weight a little better.
I find that it moves the weight from the upper part of your back to the lower/core. And that is generally more comfortable. It‘s not perfect but definitely beats running around with an RS2 „handheld“. With the Float, it‘s more a question of exercise where as without, it‘s a question of pain tolerance😅
Not sure tbh. The system is kind of built around the pole. You can shorten it though. Tilta offer other solutions like a ring that you could then us with sth. like an Armor Man or an Easyrig etc.

www.came-tv.com/products/came-tv-1-5-6kg-load-pro-camera-video-adjustable-stabilizer-vest-dual-arm This says it’s compatible with the Tilta Float in the description although I haven’t personally tried it yet.
@@jacobkelso9150 Interesting product, thanks Jacob. However I probably wouldn't trust this setup to hold the Tilta Float post with an RS2 and a decent camera setup, because of the payload capacity of "only" 6kg on the spring arm. I generally made the experience that these support systems work best if they have a bit of headroom and don't run on full payload. But then again - I am happy to be proven wrong :)
Hello, I watched your video on the Tilta float and I saw that at the scale everything is ok. I also did the scale on the horizontal and the dial is in the middle. On the other hand, when I turn to the right or to the left, the return is very fast towards the center with a spring effect. can you tell me if you ran into this problem too. Small precision when I put the plate vertically does not stay straight. I have a hard time balancing the pan. My main problem is the duration from left to right in 1-2 seconds in a fluid way. On the other hand, the screen is in the center placed upwards. But no smooth 1-2 second feedback. Too fast with a spring effect. Can you give us a little detailed tutorial just on the balance on the tripod with the balance from left to right, if you can if you have a moment devoted to us. This concerns part 5:17 of your video (How I Balance the Float ) Thank you in advance for your answer.
Hi there Sorry to hear you having troubles with the balancing. I currently don‘t have the capacity to make another in-depth tutorial about it unfortunately. TH-cam is just a hobby for me currently. However: 1) make sure that the Float display stays in the middle first by adjusting the lower rails (where you have your V-mount batteries) 2) and then adjust the 1-2 seconds drop only using the top rail. That‘s the way I figured works best for me since you don‘t fiddle around with the total balance of the Float that way but only change the „drop-time“. Hope that helps, cheers!
Thank you Michael, thank you for your answer I will try with top rail although it is already full, but I will review it all. Thank you very much and good luck.
Hello Michael, following your experience, I moved the upper part of the nato rail and it's already better, I have 1-2 seconds on the left center and right center return. Thank you for sharing your experience, good luck.
@@creativemotion5 Hi there. Sounds great, glad I could help😎 the Tilta is one of these tools that just needs a bit of time and most likely it will click for you eventually. Cheers, Michael
hello, love your vid. thinking about getting this tool. However, when I saw on 10min:33sec hero shot. i notice a micro jitter when you rotrate around subject. Is this result of RSC2 dead band setting or someting else? I have similar issue with Ronin-s as well, and no matter how much I tune, still happen. Some advise will be nice. thanx.
Thank you! Well this was shot on a Ninebot with the RS2 and the Float after we tested the whole setup for 15 minutes or so. I think it has nothing to do with the Float. This is rather not too smooth from the operator side and has a lot to do with the dead band settings.
Well you need some sort of wireless focus pulling system and most likely also videotransmition, unless you are incredibly talented at eyeballing things😅 It‘s doable for sure but takes a lot of practice. I personally rely on a focus puller or autofocus with these kinds of setups. What would be your rig?
@@MichaelEgglerFilms well, the goal is to get my hands on a FX6 or Komodo and the Float combined with the RS2 gimbal. I still wonder if applying a matte box on the lens using this setup isn’t too front heavy and if it’s something that you would practice or just rely on the internal ND of a FX6 for instance.
I just today received the Polarpro Basecamp Mattebox. Might review it in some form or way. This seems like a super lightweight solution for a mattebox. If I had to choose between FX6 or Komodo, I‘d go Sony every day of the week. But that of course depends on your line of work.
Hello, friends, while watching your video, in the part, blackmagic pocket 4K, I noticed that you have connected the RavenEye with an external SSD card. Can you tell me, if it is the SSD card that is recording or an internal XSD card or Cfast 2 card. If it's the Samsung external SSD card with the RavenEye running, can you tell me how you got it plugged in at the same time as the RavenEye on the pocket 4K. I'm looking for how to do it and I haven't found it yet. Thank you in advance for your answer.
The Raveneye is connected via HDMI to the Pocket 4K and the USB C port is used for the SSD. This means you‘ll have image transmission and Active Track but no camera control through the app. I think this is a decent compromise.
Is there anything to look out for when using V-mount as they are generally run at a voltage of 14.4V but the RS2 Battery is at 15.4 V? So I don't fry my Batteries?
I think with standard 14.8V v-mounts you‘re good to go. At least in my experience, the RS2 was working just fine and I‘ve used the setup for 20+ hours while I tested the Float.
@@filmlegends7906 apps.apple.com/ch/app/imaging-edge-mobile/id489191124?l=en There you go. Connect with Wifi and turn off Bluetooth for better performance.
@@donniedonito Tilta says that: „the Float is compatible with any gimbal that can mount via 1/4“-20 threads and can be powered by a 2 Pin Lemo.“ So I believe that the Zhiyun Crane 2 has a mount like that on the bottom, right? It‘s basically a „standard“ tripod mount thread.
I am confident to say that with quite a few days of exercise, you‘ll eventually get to the point where you can operate this system without micro jitters. It all depends on how well you‘ve balanced the Float and gimbal, your body movement and your general experience as a a steadicam/gimbal operator.
@@MichaelEgglerFilms ahhh, I just got mine in last week and I was going to order the rs2 next week cuz I have the original. But guess who’s wireless controller wasn’t in the box😂
That depends on your setup but generally, you‘ll feel the weight in the lower part of your back. I‘d recommend doing some core exercise if you want to shoot longer and more often with the Float.

www.came-tv.com/products/came-tv-1-5-6kg-load-pro-camera-video-adjustable-stabilizer-vest-dual-arm
This says it’s compatible with the Tilta Float in the description although I haven’t personally tried it yet.
This concerns part 5:17 of your video (How I Balance the Float )
Thank you in advance for your answer.
Hi there
Sorry to hear you having troubles with the balancing. I currently don‘t have the capacity to make another in-depth tutorial about it unfortunately. TH-cam is just a hobby for me currently. However:
1) make sure that the Float display stays in the middle first by adjusting the lower rails (where you have your V-mount batteries)
2) and then adjust the 1-2 seconds drop only using the top rail.
Cheers,
Michael
OK, thanks 🤝
hello, love your vid. thinking about getting this tool.
So if one doesn't have the Raven Eye, how hard would it be to focus and track, tilt and pan at the same time with the Float?
Thank you for your answer, well there is no choice, we will go towards this configuration, with this compromise.
Thank you.
What bike is that ? Looks amazing
That is Nadia‘s very own Harley Davidson 48 Sportster😎
Woooww amazing brother
Thanks man😎
@@MichaelEgglerFilms
Ok brother
I just got my float this video is spot on- can I ask you what did you use to follow your hot friend? Was it a car or your Segway?
Thanks and enjoy🤙🏻 That was a car.
I see everyone using phones as monitors with this. Are you able to mount a 7-inch monitor without issues? I assume a 5-inch one will work.
Haven‘t tried a 7-inch but a 5-inch should work well.
I want to pick one up but can you actually order them rn? It just says "coming soon" or back ordered" for me
You can order them but you‘ll need a bit of patience rn. Everyone is waiting😅
@@MichaelEgglerFilms lol thx, sounds good. Great review, very helpful!
Nice review, earned a sub. Gruess us Bärn ;)
Thanks😎 Gruess usem Solothurnische😉
Amazing mini movie
Thank you so much!
Do you still use the float ??? Can’t tell from your new videos
Recently used it on an ad for FXLion😎

can the gopro battery be charged in the controller?
Hey brother did you use phone as a monitor ?
Yes, I did. Both for the A7S3 (Imaging Edge & RavenEye) and the RED Control App. They all work really well, can recommend at least with iOs😎
@@MichaelEgglerFilms please help me out sir i use a74 rs2 pro combo and have iphone 13

There you go. Connect with Wifi and turn off Bluetooth for better performance.
could this work with a different gimbal, such as the Zhiyun Crane 2?
Yes you can (with the proper mount) use the Float with a Zhiyun Crane from what I understood.
@@MichaelEgglerFilms like u know of a special mount or you gotta 3dprint it? thanks
@@donniedonito Tilta says that: „the Float is compatible with any gimbal that can mount via 1/4“-20 threads and can be powered by a 2 Pin Lemo.“ So I believe that the Zhiyun Crane 2 has a mount like that on the bottom, right? It‘s basically a „standard“ tripod mount thread.
what camera is this shot on?
Mostly Sony A7SIII but also some Red Komodo and BMPC 4k. I mentioned in the video what was shot with what cam🤙🏻
fine review! one question: you use 2 vmount accus - did you buy a addition mount, or is it out of the box? i‘m still waiting for my ordered one…
Thanks Philipp😎The V-Mount actually came with the set.
Why you need a battery?
Does the balancing post come with it?
No that‘s a light stand. But if I am not mistaken, you get the pin in the new batch which really helps with balancing.
so do you still have micro jitters?
I am confident to say that with quite a few days of exercise, you‘ll eventually get to the point where you can operate this system without micro jitters. It all depends on how well you‘ve balanced the Float and gimbal, your body movement and your general experience as a a steadicam/gimbal operator.
@@MichaelEgglerFilms ahhh, I just got mine in last week and I was going to order the rs2 next week cuz I have the original. But guess who’s wireless controller wasn’t in the box😂
@@MrAlwaysOnTen dang man I feel you😂 good luck with that but grats on finally getting one🤙🏻
Does it come with those 2 big batteries?
Unfortunately not. I‘d recommend 2x FX Lion Nano 2😎
love from india bro just make this type of videos
Thanks man!
how can I buy from India
What bike is that?
That is a Harley Davidson 48 Sportster😎
thanks
where did you find the device placed the weight on the legs or on back ?
That depends on your setup but generally, you‘ll feel the weight in the lower part of your back. I‘d recommend doing some core exercise if you want to shoot longer and more often with the Float.
@@MichaelEgglerFilms I tried it Micheal and it was no good for my back had to return it as it was far to uncomfortable to have on for any length of time but then I have a bad back to start with
@@gges1605 sorry to hear that man! All the best with your back💪🏻
@@MichaelEgglerFilms Be very careful with the rosette that holds the arm to the belt those little screws can come loose and result is it won't hold up your gear as the teeth don't catch properly I was really lucky and caught my camera but I don't trust it.
