I am doing this with my 2years old dutch shepherd, I fully understood what it means in less than 2months ago (wish I understood it 2years ago). And its very effective. This clip explains everything. For other people on the street it might looks dumb, because I walk hours in front of my house without going anywhere, my dog is fully capable of doing it for hour or two (I am the one who is first tired from this), after all he is working dog and this is work for him and he likes to work. So to walk 100m there and back can take us even 2hrs - without any frustration from him. And the longer we go the more he walks calmly with less pulling, I also walk SUPER slowly, because we need to slow him down, so his brain will have chance to be used before his legs runs somewhere. I dont use treats much, just sometimes when he is excited about something (as said in video, "against whole world") - just to prevent any escalation from him or to show him this place isnt dangerous, but fun with treats on the ground, in those situations I do 180° turns on this spot till he calms down, and sometimes in those situations I drop treats for him on ground, he is wearing dog muzzle so it takes him some time to eat it and this calms him down. I never walk forward if he wants to go there without me - its always U-turn 5-10m back and then we march in same direction, first time I wanted to walk next to pub, it took us 40minutes to walk last 20m in front of the pub. This works and it is very well explained. I highly recommend it, but its very time consuming technique and also very exhausting for me but worthy every minute :)
Is the dog reactive to the door? You could start by getting him calm when you put his walking gear on (so harnesses if he has any and lead).. In order to do that anytime you go to put the gear on and he gets too excited just instantly drop it/place it down and ignore him, turn ur back to him and don't attempt to put the stuff back on until he is calm.. (and you repeat this until ur able to put his lead on without him getting over excited) Once he's calm with his gear on it's door training 😅 Door training is normally: you open the door a little and as soon as they react you shut it immediately and tell the dog either sit or back off, once the dog is calm you attempt to open it again (you repeat this until they finally don't react when you open the door!) _I hope this helps, I learnt from it's me or the dog, go check them out the trainer gives so many good tips and tricks for all types of situations!_ Edit: I should mention that when you close the door and tell them to sit or back off if they aren't listening you just wait, keep a strong posture (stand up straight don't slouch) and keep a straight face to show them you aren't amused, as well as ignore them, repeat the command you want them to follow and if it works go back to door training 😊
they already mentioned it in the video; you need to start in areas that are low distraction and build victories there before moving to areas outside where there's more distractions
Same, once we are outside, my dogs won’t react to any commands or treats, it’s hard bc we didn’t train them as puppies, so now they’re big and harder to control
@@av_g33k so you probably need to start training inside where there are no distractions then out in your backyard and front yard until they ignore everything but you . Then just on your path out the front of your house until you have success there . and then start with moving further away down the street , Yes it takes time but the more you practice the more you will succeed. the older the dog the longer it will take too train patience is the key .. good luck
I have a question my dog unlearning her training because I've chosen to use a retractable leash when we go to certain parks where she can roam more freely. I use that leash only at certain parks to allow her to go further into some areas without me. Is it possible to have her behave different on the 2 types of leashes or do I abandon the retractable leash 100%?
Personally in my time as a dog walker most dogs that have retractable leads tend to be more naughty when the lead is out further because they think we cannot prevent them from doing those naughty deeds.. My own dog used to be on a retractable (she's only little) but I got fed up with the way it pulled both me and her when she wanted more running space so I used it to help with recall training and then abandoned it completely, she does still tug a bit but only when she gets excited (and she doesn't tug as much if I stop since she doesn't get to go where she wants that way either lol).
I use a long (10m) leash where there’s lots of room and no other dogs so she can have a run and practise recall, and then a short 2m leash the rest of the time - so I swap back to short leash to return to car etc.
I don’t like retractable leashes. Too dangerous. Especially if you need to get them back quickly. I would just use a longer leash that you can pull back.
This is great advice.. Only downside? If you're going to be doing quick maneuvers then the dog shouldn't have the lead attached to its collar but a harness. When you constantly pull on a dogs harness it can cause damage to the throat, they can get collapsed trachea for example and as dog lovers we wanna be preventing this. *Buy a harness or halti for your dog but never walk a dog that pulls by a collar.*
@khwaac The point about the collar is not wrong. We should all be aware, but maybe a wide collar is also an option to consider as well as a harness. Don't be argumentative for the sake of it. We all want what's best for our dogs😊
The 180 degree turn doesn’t work on my German Shepard whose 2 years old because he’d just continue to pull in the direction he wants to go . For example if I have him in my backyard he will pull going back toward the garage in the front of my house no matter what tricks or things I try to do
When the dog tries to get ahead of you… stop, correct, bring back to heel position then continue. Turning when the dog leads you causes the dog to break eye contact and pulled in a direction as oppose to being led by you.
My 3 month old pup walks flawlessly on the lead when foods involved but as soon as it’s gone he’s right back to pulling and no pint of turning or saying heal changes his mind 😢
So it pulls to get at the traffic or it pulls away because it's scared of the traffic? In order to solve the issue you need to understand why the dog is doing it.
First of all, giving dogs snacks are not healthy. My dog gained weight giving her treats. A dog trainer told me I could use part of her meal( dry food ).
Love this format!! Definitely keep posting shorts 👍🏻

Looking to use these on my pup Larry! Did some off leash training in one of my vids deff gonna try this
Thank you
Love this thank you 😊
Love it! Not sure about the "small belly" part though 😅
I have conversations with my dog on walks, we talk about our surroundings it’s great😂when your walking for 2 hrs you and a dog it be like that🤣
My dog gets so overwhelmed outside that he doesn't care about me, treats and toys. I don't know how to reward him for the few good choices he makes

Yea mine is not food driven doesn’t take treats when training she has a mind of her own don’t listen

Nice loop bro

I want to watch this but I can’t see the words for the overlay
Well finally doin a 180 a lot better I noticed he does wonder why I'm turning put he also keeps staring at the the dog though..also lose the food

Any tips for a husky that barks constantly while walking?
Why does it bark.. Does it see something like a bird or squirrel or does it bark at people or other dogs?
@@lilskipper4683 because it's a overactive husky lol. Or the train is passing by
I notice all the dogs walking nicely have the attachment of the collar on the bottom of the neck. Its always on top of mine.
I walk my dog but I pull on her harness instead. I don't wanna hurt her throat if I pull too much
This is great advice..

Wrong, just get a wide collar
@khwaac

Tried this doesn’t work on my dog..
Juse the comannd look

What’s wrong with having conversation with my dog when I walk him?
My dog has anything but a small belly🤣🤣 eats more than me ahahaha
Hate to tell you how unfunny this is.
_Oh wait no I don't._ 😒
My 3 month old pup walks flawlessly on the lead when foods involved but as soon as it’s gone he’s right back to pulling and no pint of turning or saying heal changes his mind 😢
My dog is so strong, so that 180 turn is kinda impossible 😕
Great but what about the other walks? If you get a small succes, you still have all the other walks.
Imagine if these dogs started watching subway surfers
My dog's too stupid to not pull on the leash when a car is coming.
So it pulls to get at the traffic or it pulls away because it's scared of the traffic?
In order to solve the issue you need to understand why the dog is doing it.

The fact that this information comes from american standard K9
Only problem with turning round, my puppy immedietly puts the brakes on
Thank you
