"drive to survive is extremely fun for people with limited to no knowledge of F1" yep spot on I'd never watched an F1 race in my life until I binged the 4 seasons of DTS now I haven't missed a race since. Had no clue at the time what was dramatized or faked and what wasn't.
@@paulthomson9014 and both of y'all are equally important for the future of F1. Tired of seeing all the gatekeeping around F1 fandom. We all enjoy it, so enjoy it.
I have been watching F1 since 1994 as Max's dad entered the sport in a team that could actually win. All those years you only had the races and a small bit of gossip in the media. With Internet we got more gossip and learned Rosberg and Hamilton didn't like each other. But the fanbase stayed about the same. Since Netflix DTS there came a lot of new fans and I noticed a change in the way that fans of different teams/drivers behave. Much more toxicity towards other drivers. I don't know exactly but I suspect these new fans were drawn to F1 for other reasons. I came for the sound, the speed and the technology. I picked a driver I liked to support but didn't know that much about him other then racing skill. Now it seams like people are drawn to F1 for driver drama and the race is a spin off from that. They don't know much about technology and racing tactics and come up with idiotic conspiracy theories. They hold grudges for an extremely long time and blame drivers that have done nothing wrong other than a human mistake now and then. I understand the money these new fans bring is important but to me it isn't that great. Hopefully the new fans learn more about the sport and the real morons loose interest.
I think Max was right to call out the fake. It is of course only my personal opinion, but I think Americans can handle REAL and still be excited. If you have ONE truly excited commentator for these episodes, (like Crofty but pick a famous American) then all the fake is absolutely unnecessary. They keep forgetting that we also want to see WHOLESOME. I loved seeing Nyck de Vries getting a hug and shoulder slaps from max. 11 seconds of footage, but it made my day. Just to see some friendliness! AFTER the competition. How about giving the RIGHT example, like NOT having to FIGHT?! to just see them happily discussing the race in the cooldown room... To see what it takes to BE such an athlete that you can take many G's on your neck?! THAT is the sport. Not all that fake rivalry. What joy is there in that? Because actually they're trying to portray pain, that's not real. So why do you want people to feel the pain where there's sometimes just annoyance? or even friendship instead? It annoyed me to no end. I hope they will do better. Up their game.
I've been watching f1 for years, as an American I can say I've never bothered with DTS there's enough drama to watch on race weekend and TH-cam but no shade to those who do watch it.
no hate but dont complain about getting up early to watch a f1 race in australia, when australians get up at 11pm-2am every sunday to watch races in europe and us
Max Verstappen did not change his mind. He only said that he would cooperate with Drive to Survive if he had the final say in the editing of the scenes he will be in. That is a wise decision, as then you know that what is portrayed, actually happened. And believe me, the Verstappens do not only show their positive sides. They are extremely open and straightforward people. (See the scene where Max comes to his apartment completely wasted and enters a family surprise party). They do not censor anything.
I've watched 1 episode ; needed to know what was what. Was also my last episode. Horrible show, typical American, whished that Max had held his ground.
I just can’t watch drive to survive. I tried watching it and couldn’t find it enjoyable. It doesn’t compare to the real race weekends for me. The real thing is far better than the show.
Drive to survive is NOT for Diehard F1 fans at all. I am a new fan because of the show 💯. Four seasons later and I can see the drama they make up. But for the editing of radio communication, full throttle speeds etc any potential new fan will not know anything is wrong.
The problem with the DTS crowd is that for every one fan that starts following F1 and truly gets into & loves ALL aspects of the sport (the technical & strategical parts as well as the racing/drivers) there are hundreds of clueless, braindead and toxic fake 'fans' who only care about the fake, manufactured drama and bring all of their toxic 'stan' culture with them. All they do is ruthlessly attack anyone that dares to disagree with their BS opinions. They don't understand the concept of a racing incident, it's always either a conspiracy or someone deliberately knocking off their favourite driver (usually Max or Lewis) and the end result of that is personal attacks, DOXing and even death threats. Those fans do not care about the history of the sport (and the few that do constantly get it wrong and spread false information, like one 'fan' that went on a rampage after someone said that Williams is the second best team historically in terms of constructors titles. That 'fan', using profanity and disgusting personal attacks said that Mclaren have 12 titles and that Williams only have 7. His only mistake was that he was quoting DRIVERS TITLES! He would not accept any attempt to correct his mistake. What was really frustrating was the fact that his error-strewn comment had hundreds of likes from other stupid DTS 'fans' like him, perpetuating false information) and constantly attack teams like Williams because they've been at the back since they started following the sport in 2021. They don't understand that Williams is third overall in terms of historical success and that Williams is as important as Ferrari and Mclaren because of the history they bring to the sport. They genuinely believe that teams such as Aston Martin are better than Williams yet AM hasn't even won a single race, let alone 114 of them with 9 WCC and 7 WDC like Williams has. Heck, even if you only count the period that Williams have struggled they've still won a race (Spain 2012) and finished on the podium/higher in the WCC FAR MORE that Aston Martin. Yet those fans don't care about any of that, they only care about F1 post 2020/21. I've passionately followed F1 since the mid-90s and attended six races. I've been heavily involved in the F1 community for decades and I can categorically tell you that since DTS became a thing, the F1 community has been utterly polluted and destroyed by those new DTS 'fans'. The before and after DTS is absolutely SHOCKING.
DtS gained F1 more audience, in that regards.... I guess yes. Sadly, many of them are "converted football hooligans"... so in that regard... no And although I don't watch DtS, but wtf is wrong with Will?, he is one of the nicer pundits imho.
If they twist too much, it won't be good for the sport because the fans that came because of the twisted drama won't be satisfied if there's not much drama as they expected and if they(F1 organizers or whoever that twisted in the first place) try to impress these new fans by making things up like manipulating small things, then the fans who were there for the love of the sport itself will get frustrated and begin to leave , when that happens they'll be left with the high number of new fans that came to see because of this show. So, more manipulation and finally the core of the sport will be damaged, the passion and love of racing and crafting the cars might be in trouble. Like Ford company in Ford vs Ferrari, it'll be just business.
I would argue Lewis and Seb are overwhelmingly to blame for the 'woke BS' in F1. And less racing? How tf do you figure that? 22 GP and 3 sprints. There's alot of racing atm.

As an American almost every race is 6am on a Sunday and it be getting rough😭. Being a RBR fan helps cuz I chug one before the grid goes dark
As an Australian fan most races are around 3am

Max saved F1. Period. Netflix brought new fans who tend to have the attention span of a goldfish, changing their minds every race.
