Nick welcomes Marc to the dyno room this week. Marc drove 12 hours from hard-working Sept Îles to see his engine roar on the dyno, and he won't be disappointed.

Nick knows his business when it comes too motors .
383 & 440 are the best engines ever. Very reliable & lots of torque. That’s a beautiful looking engine. Thanks
Anybody who likes Chargers knows that a 1970 is the best looking and probably the best performing of those 3 years
Something I learned from watching Nick this past 6 months is, no matter how far you or your vehicle travels to get to him, he ALWAYS makes it worth your while be giving EXCELLENT work and service. 👍👍 🔧🔧🔧🔧
He sure does and that's why Nick has such a following on here too Bruce.
You go Batman
@@CLEO99087 You can call me Ray or you can call meJay, but you don’t have to call me Batman.😃🤡
Fun straight forward dyno test Monday, it doesn't get much better than a nice 440 & a happy customer. The smile on Marks face says it all!!! Personally, I would have driven twice that distance to have the honor of spending time with Nick dynoing my engine!!
...new engine after break-in and dyno I think check the cylinder temps and final compression. I also feel any time you put that much work in a 440 it ought to make 440 or very close Hp.
Love that sound Nick you da doc😎✌️
And here I am in Australia planning on taking a few months worth of holidays to try find a 69 Charger and someone to work on it for a bit while I'm there. The reason being because I don't want to fork out close to 50k for a rusted rolling shell with no good body panels. A clean example fetches 140k here easy.
That Carburetor, looks and reminds me of a Themo-quad Carburetor from the old days . They were made by Carter . I'm trying to remember when those were made . Always love watching Nick work his magic .
I have a old 1973 Dodge Polara pursuit California Highway Patrol Car with a 850 Thermal Quad on my 440 magnum. It's 100%.They numbers matching.
It is a Thermoquad, you are correct!
@@norrismulgrew859 I think back in the day 850 and 1000 cfm Themo-quad Carburetors were made by Carter ...I remember a few friends running them . Thankyou for the comment and reply .
@@olikat8 Cool deal ....is that a new carb or rebuilt ?
@@norrismulgrew859 Hey , I had to a Dodge Coronet Police Intercept , I think it was a 1974 model . Had a 440 Magnum, to police specs . I got as a teenager at a local govt auction. It had 150 certified speedometer, cop suspension, reinforced top ,front and rear bumper ....white with solid black interior. It was a serious sleeper back then and ate a good many muscle cars lunches . The fas I ever got it up to was 145 mph on a straight country back road with me and my friends . 10 ft talk and bullet proof back then ,and no sense ...that we have learn from life's hard knocks . Good Lord was looking out for us . I'm a Pontiac fan and had a 1970 GTO red with black interior, tachometer on the hood ,Ram Air 400 , a 1962 Pontiac Catalina with 389 ...but Daddy was a Dodge man ...sorry for getting winded . Hope all is well with you and your family.
“What a sound”. . . says it all. Sweet!
What a beautiful charger!
Love the door accents and wrap around bumper of the 70 , such a cool looking sleek design!
And how can you go better than a Nick built 440 making stock six pack numbers with a 650 carb?😲!?👍 Great stuff as always guys, thanks again.
NICE! I never realized how far Sept-Îles is up the Saint Lawrence. Thanks for the Canadian geography lesson!
Long distance.
When it comes to adjusting the air fuel Nick's Garage has every tool So when Marc stamps his foot on the loud pedal it's going to be cool Marc's gone straight to Nick's Garage he's no fool There's no better sound on a Monday than a 440 at full spool Nick's ears are fully trained ensuring no pulley is strained Nick has got to heat sync the block and rejet the carburettor because Nick is the muscle car Proffessor Plumbed in locked down So any lost horses can be found Nick's Garage don't play around Thanks Nick Cheers Marc Word up George Shout out from London
Alright!!!! Another great Monday at Nick's garage!!!
This is exactly why the chevy 327s were known as 440 killers!
You and George never fail to make a great show,by far my fav on utube. That 440 was running smooth and healthy, congrats on yet another 440 build and not only a happy customer but a happy viewer aswell. Thanks so much for what you do.
I could be dead wrong, but the look on the gentleman’s face said he’s reaping the benefits of a long term project and he’s enjoying every bit of it.
You bet!
Nice to see a happy customer!
Love watching your channel, the passion you put into your machines is something you don't see much anymore. My first car was a 70 Charger that I got by trading a dirt bike for it, no motor but a trip to our local junk yard got me a 440 magnum for $90 and another $75 for a 727 Torq flight, I stripped down the motor and sent the block to the machine shop for cleaning, cam bearings and freeze plugs, I was 16 at the time, every day I came home from school and worked on it, all stock with the exception of headers, the day I got my license is the day I registered the car and took it for the first drive with my older brother who was a Mopar enthusiast, man I wish I still had that car!!!
Glad you enjoy watching !
Dang I bought one of those carbs for my 340, I have not put it on yet. I really liked the old thermo quads, . Wow I never checked out the assembly on the carb, glad it was you instead of me. Not really, but thanks for the eye opener. Your my hero.
That idle was beautiful.
Oh man another happy camper watching his motor go to 491 ft lb of torque for the street course Nick built it from Nick's garage yep he's the man no doubt been watching you a long time Nick I love the 440 in my opinion it's the best street motor you can have cuz you can do just about anything with it yeah I used to have one anyway before I get to flapping my lips again love your show George you're doing great man I just I have no more words 440 forever Nick forever thanks for the videos guys gets me all fired up
"That's what the customer wants, that's what we put together". Simply genius Nick. I wish that Hollywood would take that lesson from you! You can still practice artistic genius and be responsible to your customers desires once you take your ego out of the equation. As always, well done Nick!
Hi Nick, and George., I just finished watching Mondays video, and the 440 made the HP I expected from the parts that he chose. I think that I would have gone with an AVS2 650 CFM, much easier to work on than the TQ copy. At least you don't have to remove the carb to change the secondary jets. Mark will have a nice cruiser with plenty of power for the street. There is always something different on Nick's Garage the best channel on TH-cam!!!
Thank you Eugene.
Without the dyno readout on the air/fuel ratio, Mark could easily have burned up his pistons, as Nick pointed out. A dyno test fee is worth the money spent just to get the carb dialed in correctly and the same for the ignition timing. The 6-number metering difference with what they started with and what they ended up with was pretty significant
@@bobkonradi1027 Your not telling me anything that I haven't known for over 55 years, and I do know how to tune a carb. Back in the day dyno's were very scare, not easily accessible, and very costly for the average guy.
I'm watching this one because it features something besides a Holley.
Sure looks like a Thermoquad but the TQ doesn't have removable secondary jets.
A nice surprise was meeting Mark! ;)
Another great lesson! Marc is a very happy man!
Remember guys, $50 an hour labour, $75 if you watch, $100 if you help!
Triple those numbers if it’s an airplane😊. I paid, because I wanted to learn.
$125.00 if you laugh! A real sign my dad had.
Yep that’s what my boss would say 😅
Best idling 440, I have seen at Nicks.
super nice episode super clean super smooth 440 well done and the numbers were right on with the parts on that 440 exactly as Eugine stated in his coment
from 7:40 to 16:01 fifteen more HP from changing from the old jet. Great video!
It never ceases to amaze me how easy it is to work on an engine when its on a dyno. And how precisely you can dial in a carburetor and distributor, etc. With Nick's addition of an overhead camera right above the carb, you can troubleshoot any fuel mixture problems on them. I remember a couple of times on previous engines when the engine was running way lean, and it turned out to be a clogged fuel circuit to one of the carb barrels, and that would have been enormously difficult to diagnose without the dyno and video camera. And I noticed the dyno was breathing a sigh of relief at getting back to "normal" 440s after dealing with the supercharged, EFI engine from a few weeks ago.
Another GOOD show !!! And Thanks my French Canadian neighbors.....all the way from California too far for me to drive .
12:08 ... would like to find a shirt like what the owner has. Also like the matching black edelbrock intake and valve covers. Red 70 Charger R/T with the black vinyl is a sweet ride. They look much better with a vinyl top.
I imagine you think I'm on vacation. Quite the contrary. I'm so busy, I only watched the blown 440 last night. But I'm connecting with locals, and I hope to be able to spend the winter working here and buy a condo. As I type, I'm sitting outside having a snack. Nothing beats the weather, and nothing your videos!
Love it, can’t wait to have my 440 built for my daily 69 Fury!
I learn something every time I watch him perform his magic. Smart man, you don't miss any thing. Thanks for sharing Nick.
I love all these videos. Especially the higher horsepower engines on the dyno.
That engine put out some good numbers! Great torque!
Another great engine build by the Mopar master himself, Nick!!! I know Marc will enjoy getting his car back together so he can cruise on down to the shop and show it off: just goes to show, getting older DOES NOT mean life is over, you can still enjoy what you like!!!! I wanna build something myself (when I get the funds lol). Great content as always, guys (it was nice to see the video AS SOON AS it came on)!!!!
Wow just wow wow Nick that was one sweet sounding & looking 440 going into Marc's Charger which looked pretty impressive to. Thanks and have a real beaut week all.
Nice man, nice engine. I had a 70 charger and will always have great memories. Thanx for keeping dreams alive Nick.😃
I tried to watch this last night when it came out, but I think that I live just outside the black whole of Phoenix, where (on occasion) all data is sucked away from my house and then it takes 3 hours to watch a 10 minute video. So, here I am on Tuesday morning with coffee and poutine. This gentleman has done some nice work on his engine. Should make for a very nice daily.
I just noticed that he's driving a Chevy pickup! What's up with that! Lol
The pickup was rented.
@@Marcus-ys1hz, in all seriousness, I was kidding. I love Mopars, but I drive a Ford, so...
@@garygraham2513 I know you were kidding. I just had to get that off my chest...

Hi Nick what a great show tonight... The engine sounded great and the customer was blown away for his 440 on the Dyno at NICKS GARAGE... He will be very happy when he installs the 440 in his car.. Nick come on let's get the 528 BEAST together and on the Dyno .. Let's see some REAL numbers on the Dyno... I love the camera shots from above the engine when Nick is testing the motors. That carburetor's secondaries are atomizing the fuel pretty good. The fuel "fan" looks equal to me. Another pleased customer !!!
Marc smiled a lot, he looks like a happy customer, thanks Nick for another great job, nice camera angles as always, thanks George.
NICK'S GARAGE NUMBER ONE ALWAYS
Thermal carb was nothing but trouble back in the day warping and cracking vacuum leaks
A beautiful car has to have a finely tuned engine and this engine is music to my ears 👍👍
Nice touch with the engine removal and a happy customer on his way..
allways makin um smile nick you da man. we the last of a dying breed but it keeps us livin much longer. thanks nick and crew. and as always thanks camera man and to the engine doner. the music always puts me in the mood,,
Hi George. Three times I clicked on the thumbs down to see how many people did not like this video because it did not give a number like the thumbs up does. Just out of curiosity, and to understand. A thumbs down does not give a people count. It sends a report to Nick's Garage, I guess? Sorry for testing the thumbs down button. I regret my curiosity. Its been a long week. Who could not like? This is my #1 site that I look forward to every Friday evening to watch after every hard week of work. It reminds me of the saying, "Curiosity killed the cat"
Interesting question about the thumbs down button. It used to keep track of the number, but TH-cam made some changes and removed the counter. We do get a percentage report in our analytics, likes to dislikes. We’re proud to say that most of our videos get well over 99% likes. 👍
Welcome to Nick's Garage Quebec superflow. You can't hear Travis train in Kingsville TX.
Congrats Mark! Well done Mr Nick!! Have a Great week!!
Thank you!
Dr. Nick, I have never seen a carb like that, nice work, and a cool looking 1970 Charger, well done, cheers.
Those cars came with Thermo-Quads... this one is like a cyclops of a T-quad.... Carter's answer to the Quadrajet spread-bore. Not a popular carb! Holley's are easier to tune... pretty sure you can get a spread-bore Holley to replace it.
Hey I would like to know in your opinion what does a totally stock 440 make on your dyno? I think I saw 330 horsepower as a fairly accurate figure by today's standards and on your Dino.
Its called a speed demon 625. Its holleys answer to the edelbrocks and qjets. Its nothing like the old school demons based on holleys
The Holley 750 double pumper made 402 hp and 500.6 torque.
The Demon 625 made 388.5 hp and 491.5 torque.
Demon forever!!!
@@thomasward4505 ....That is correct. They were in the low 300 HP range.
Love the dyno shows
Yeah!!! MOPAR or NO CAR!!! The 68 through 70 Charger has Always Been one of my Favorite muscle cars. Made by Chrysler motors.
Mopar magic EVERY time with Nick....doesn't get any better. Nick is the master.
Great video Segment!!!! That carb looks and is put together a lot like a Carter Thermo-Quad... I prefer the AFB's or a 4160 Holley, but with the way this engine ran with that 625 vacuum secondary Demon, it is just fine... 388 H.P. and 490 ft. lb. of torque, definitely will move that '70 Charger around quite well !!! Mark (the client) has my vote for being a genuinely good guy.... He deserves the best, and Nick's garage provided that with this engine build and final tune... 👍
Another killer 440 dyno Monday ! Thanks Nick !
He's a happy camper! I'd love to see the car when it's running.
That carburetor was designed taking the best attributes of the Quadrajet the AFB and the Thermoquad. Guy who designed it worked for Carter back in the hey day. I would have like to see the Street demon 750cfm on there but the low end throttle response with the 625 will be like fuel injection.
I modified a Quadrajet 850 CFM TO put on my 1973 Dodge Polara pursuit California Highway Patrol Car and it made a massive difference it performed much better than the Thermal Quad it was like nite and day. I put the Thermal Quad back on after I rebuilt it.
👍Another great engine by Nicks Garage 👍
I love Thermoqauds. Nothing sounds like them
That is what I'm talking about! Just that! looks great Guys!
I seen it rock. When them 440 rock they are ready to kick ass.
Love those cast valve covers, had the same style on my 360 👍
Nice work Nick. Love your passion and energy for these old mopars. Of course, that nice 440 would make more power of you let er eat more air. An 850 CFM carb would help a lot, but I'm sure it will be a very fun driver with nearly 500 ft lbs on tap😁
That's awsome!! I'm running that same carb on my 1974 400. Now I know it's capable of making power. Those numbers are close to what I'd like my 400 to make after a complete rebuild....💯😎
The Holley 750 double pumper made 402 hp and 500.6 torque.
The Demon 625 made 388.5 hp and 491.5 torque.

Great to see Al Bundy out of the Plymouth Duster and into a Charger.
Nick has a way of delivering what the customer wants, with the reliability of a well built engine. That smile says it all - many more years of enjoyment in that charger now that Nick has put his touch on it.
You are the man, Nick! She runs beautifully!
Note to track people don’t get a demon carburetor. Edelbrock does not require removal to switch metering rods, springs, or jets.
Awesome 👍 job guys I appreciate all your Tips and video's keep up the great build
Thanks! Will do!
Would of like to see a comparison of the carb Dino sheets.

Add alternator, water pump belts and clutch fan, power steering and air-conditioning and the automatic 727 torque flite trans ,
now your 386hp is now 300hp to the wheels,
it's better build knowing your powertrain
loss and add that extra amount.
build it with at least 440hp.
Great video Nick.
Glad you enjoyed it
I think that ThermoQuad carb would work better on a manifold made to take the spread-bore design rather than using an adaptor plate. With that manifold, I'd stick with the Holley or go with a Carter (Edelbrock) AFB.
The Holley 750 double pumper made 402 hp and 500.6 torque.
The Demon 625 made 388.5 hp and 491.5 torque.
The choice is clear to me: Demon forever!!!

I left that decision with my client. For better fuel economy he chose his Demon.

What were the numbers on the 750 carb? I had one of those Street Demon carbs. Ran pretty good when it was new. But it eventually started getting worse and worse at a national event, to the point that I took it off and put a new Edelbrock on it. Much improved. When I got home I rebuilt it and discovered the problem was that the vacuum in the carb had sucked the long, skinny gasket runners along the edge of the float bowls into the float bowls. A new gasket and some glue solved that problem.
The Holley 750 double pumper made 402 hp and 500.6 torque.
The Demon 625 made 388.5 hp and 491.5 torque.
The choice is clear to me. Demon forever!!!
@@Marcus-ys1hz I have to ask why you are happier with less torque and hp?
@@jebsdaddy141 Because the difference between the two carbs is very little (3.5% hp, 1.8% tq) and for the reason that a double pumper is NOT recommended for street use.
1st Florida view
It appears to be a spread-bore carb on a square-bore manifold? Any reason for that - I can see it working if the seconaries aren't partly blocked, but if they are it will introduce other problems?
Yeah sure sounded great
Looks like a carb I would never use. Like an old T quad. I’d like to see what Nick’s carb did for numbers.

The Demon 625 made 388.5 hp and 491.5 torque.

Another successful dyno tune. "There's the American muscle car everywhere on the planet". A more true statement couldn't be said. Other than that, a North Shore winter should afford Marc enough time to get the 440 back in the Charger.
I would like to see you test a tunnel ram against any single carb manifold. On a 440. Any carb. Domanater what ever.
Wondering what was the power difference running the Holley 750?
