What they didn't mention here, for some reason was just how tight the league was at it's conclusion.
    1. Dundee Utd 56points, +55goal diff.
    2. Celtic 55points, +54goal diff.
    3. Aberdeen 55points, +51goal diff.
To have 3 teams going into the last day of the season with a chance of winning the title is something we'll never see again. Aberdeen (for the record) won their last game 5-0 v Hibs. An absolutely incredible season. It has to go down as arguably the greatest ever season in Scottish football history.

A really magical time for Scottish football. It would be so awesome to see the Old Firm being challenged in this way once again.

What both these sides were doing back then made the league so much more competitive. Just an amazing time to be a fan.

Best era for Scottish football there’s ever been. The current monopoly was bred as a result of Aberdeen and Dundee Utd and the west coast utter distain and jealousy

1967 to 1984 was the most exciting and excellent time for football ⚽️ in the entire United Kingdom
List of European Cup Winners from the UK
    1967 Celtic
    1968 Manchester United
    1977, 1978, 1981, 1984 Liverpool
    1979, 1980 Nottingham Forest
    1982 Aston Villa
Nine European Cup titles between the five clubs 😮😮😮

See Hearts, when you need to visit Dens Park and get the result that enables you to win the league - that's how you do it.

Just saddens me to see how dull league has been last 30 odd years 🤔

Money completely took over and has ripped the heart out of the game in general. In Scotland the rest will never be able to compete for the League title again as long as Rangers and Celtic remain. It is sad, as back then we had a genuinely competitive league. Just that season, the top 3 went into the final day all with a chance of winning the title. Come full time ONE point separated them.
      1.Dundee Utd 56points (+55gd)
      2. Celtic 55points (+54gd)
      3. Aberdeen 55points (+51gd)
We'll never see a final league table like that again.

Scottish football died 20 years ago. Its shocking to see what has happened to both the leagues and the national team. Way to many foriegners in the teams. Always been a great believer in a handicap style system. Max of 3 foriegn players, if you play more you have to pay a fine to create a national youth development programme to help the youngsters train etc..
The welath is not spread around the clubs anymore it all goes into glasgow because that's where the largest fan base is. Even Hearts and hibs struggle and they both have a considerable support. Dundee united and Dundee always struggle as they split the fan base acorss 2 clubs in a fairly small city. So handicap themselves before a ball is kicked every season.

Scottish football really needs to see the re-emegrence of the New Firm to challenge Celtic and Rangers, or at least be more competive with the Old Firm. And I say that as a Celtic fan.

I agree as a Rangers fan. I started watching football mid 80’s and it was Rangers all the way. But the challenge from Aberdeen was still very strong and that was Alex Millers team they still won cups and pushed they were still very strong

you'll never see the likes of that again and it is down to the cash flow. Sky and TV have a lot to do with it as well. 2 seasons ago, Dundee utd v Dundee derby and it wasn't even televised mate. Thats a huge loss of revenue for the smaller clubs. The wealth is no longer spread around the teams and is why teams like Dundee, United, and some of the other mid sized teams now go up and down the leagues as they simply don't have the revenue and cant hold on to players.
Arguably united never had the cash back then either, but you don't get managers like McLean any more, players would hang up the boots. Look what happened to united last season when Mulgrew basically went on strike and destroyed the team in 2 games, AZ and then on to celtic. Mind you the keeper was a donkey having lost Siegrist, holding onto players these days is considerably more difficult. Especially for the smaller teams.
100% agree scottish football does need to change and in reality, Hearts and Hibs should really be doing a whole lot better than they do. United won't ever be back at that level in todays current standards.

Rangers were regularly playing to 5,000 crowds during this time. Typical of the Glasgow football fan- the type whom only turn up when winning is so heavily stacked in their favour

  • @khsmith6242

Anyone who think Scottish football can’t survive without rangers and Celtic is sorely mistaken, the Scottish game would flourish crowds would go up, there is no doubt about it proper fans stay away from games involving rangers and Celtic these days

The two best teams since the Glasgow Celtics ,all Scottish heroics ,maybe we should get back to all Scottish players or mostly
