Izzy made a very speedy recovery from her bug and we all went for a night out in Cascais. We met our friend Marco in O'Louain's Irish Pub and went over to the nearby sushi bar for a most splendid feast. I didn't mention it in the vlog, but Izzy was completely ravenous after her day of illness, and ate like a horse!
After that, we popped over to Cooley's Irish Bar and joined the Lisbon/Cascais based Irish band Melting Pot for some tunes and songs for the rest of the evening. I was helping them to get a few little videos together for their channel, so do check that out. Here it is:

I'm Imo and she's Izzy. We're a UK mother and daughter vlogging combo that loves to get out and about and exploring South Wales and beyond.
We're a homeschooling/home-educating family of two based in the UK dealing with the daily challenges of managing Izzy's severe, chronic eczema and her education. Our resourcefulness is tested on a daily basis, but we'd love to share our little triumphs and discoveries with you as we go along.
Imo is a flautist/flutist (flute player), and these vlogs will often take you behind the scenes of the life of a professional folk musician. Stand by for bits and bobs of live folk music and dance as they pop up in our day-to-day lives.
These videos will not generally feature recorded background music, making them extra suitable for people who aren't keen on pop music!

That's Marco. It's pretty unusual to have a fiddle with volume controls and a mic/pic-up built in. He got it recently, I believe...
I love these guys. They were a really fun band. I saw a band called Bella Fleck and the Flecktones and even got to see them on a revolving stage. I love fun bands. Any music can be played, but feeling it is two different things.

Really very awesome video. I also like to travel around. I think travel means peace, relax. The whole week started working on the weekend,
and our hearts started to look good. There is no work, much joy in thinking. Some scientists have studied in the study,
going to visit has a positive effect on our body and improves the brain. Our mind is so calm as we get closer to the beauty.
As much as you go to a quiet place, the brain gets rest from anxiety. Whatever the depths of the forest, as much as the adverse weather of the brain,
the brain is forgotten as much as the weaknesses. In all of these things, our brain never gets rest. Need for travel

Poor Izzy, she just spent days squirting her dinners out and now has to return to the camera. That's a tough little girl. The world needs more like her.
She's a very quick recoverer. possibly due to her over-active immune system. Her eczema disappears completely when she gets a bug like this and then comes back as she recovers.
He has a pint holder on his mic stand!! How cool is that!! 🤣This looked like a fun night out and love the fact the trains are still running at that time, a great way to get home, so long as you don't fall asleep in your seat, haha.

Thanks! I found it very joyful to edit that band footage, too. They are a cheery bunch, that Melting Pot. They're often in O'Gilin's in Cais Sodre on the weekend nights. That's their usual spot, but they play many nights a week in various places. x
Glad to see Izzy doing better! She seems none the worse for wear for what she’s been through. Two days sick is quite a long time
She's a good recoverer, that girl. I think kids do tend to bounce back quickly on the whole, compared to adults. x

That sushi was... nothing short of spectacular. I can't believe how much I like it, given that I was a strict vegetarian for 17 years. I honestly just can't get enough of it even though I fight with my conscience to eat it. The urge to scoff it down wins hands down every time at the moment.

She was ravenous by that evening - you'd be amazed by how much of that sushi she managed to devour, and then she was hungry AGAIN at the gig and went for crisps. I have a feeling she ate when we got home, too.... I love capturing live music. Thanks so much! x

That reminds me, I need to follow up those contacts you gave me. I haven’t forgotten, it’s just more about affording the time out of the routine. Izzy and I have a lot of commitments between the two of us.

I wish I could film myself as easily as I can film others! I really enjoy filming live musicians, actually. Especially friends as I get to keep the footage as a keepsake. It is more complicated to edit than a normal vlog, but rewarding once it all comes together. X

I love to languish, if I'm not sick. I also love the drink holder on the microphone stand - very humane, very civilized. It occurred to me that the drum from which various tones are elicited by the technique of the striker really serves the function of a bass in a more non-Celtic trio, say, although more than that, too. Really love this music. I truly have a visceral response to it.
Me too! I rarely if ever do it, but once Izzy goes to college, I've promised myself a lengthy languish-fest of epic proportion to make up for the last 7 years or so! Ha ha ha!

That's Billy's special drink-holder! 😂 It's actually not a bad idea to have one of those. I do have a more rudimentary version at home somewhere, but I keep forgetting to bring it to gigs.

It’s interesting to see y’all not working the daily normal jobs.. I am curious as how you find gigs, how they pay gets decided, and how often you work. Stuff like that. It might make a good video. Of course keeping important things private is important too
Oh yeah, I hadn't thought about that. You have to network with other musicians to get involved with a band in the first place - lots of jam sessions and that sort of thing, then market your stuff online. Once you've got your gigs, be hardworking and pleasant to everyone to make sure you get rebooked, and sometimes people who've seen you recommend you and so on. It's taken me years to build up my network of contacts. Thanks for the question. I'll try to keep it in mind for a video....

So, you went to Cascais just to watching Celtic people playing some guitars and to have dinner, right? 'Ai ai, esta gente já não viaja para Cascais para conhecer a Boca do Inferno e o Centro Histórico!!' (i'm joking).
Lol! On this occasion, yes, but the next day we went during the daytime and managed to just about catch the Boca before the sun went down. There's never enough time to do everything, but next time I definitely want to explore Cascais properly. Izzy only ever wants to visit this one tiny beach there, and it's quite difficult to persuade her to leave it and see anything else in the area...
