TRENDS THAT NEED TO STOP IN 2022 or why they dont help our personal style/ tubavalon

  • They are new - we love them. Then everybody loves them - and we hate them. Y2K Style, Oversize Blazers, Bicycle Shorts or Tracksuits. We have seen them all in 2021, and maybe we shouldnt turn this into a hearbreaking breake up, but just quit with all of them. If you're not too annoyed by me digressing into philosphical thoughts and not getting to the point, then you'll like this video. Because at the end of the day, all that matters is that all these trends reflect our personal style and not us just following them.
    So lets get into this and tell me, which trend you will quit for sure! All hail to personal style. Amen.

    I couldn't agree with you more. I personally am SICK of reading these around: "What you need to buy this season", "How to look like a French girl", "10 outfits to copy this season", " What not to wear in Paris if you're going on holidays". I mean WHAT the hell is all this??? And honestly, who the f*** cares if when in Paris you wear crocs with socks or Chanel ballerinas, a beret and a straw basket with baguettes and croissants in it (which MANY would do thinking that this IS THE THING to do in France). ALSO: SICK of influencers. It's just not cool anymore and it hasn't been for a long time. They all look the same and they all promote the same items they get sent from the same designers. B O R I N G.

    As for the Paris people, I've been living here for 3 years and I can't even count how many times I have seen (dirty to a point of dead leather - optional) white Stan Smith adidas sneakers on men, paired with khaki/beige pants, shirt and canvas tote bag. Same goes for women, who wear floral summer dresses even during the winter (not a problem but make it interesting with some oversized sweater) paired with tacky floral tights. This needs to stop because I've come to the center of fashion and 70% of it - ain't it.

    About the “why people like to be perfect” thing, I was recently seeing bliss fosters’s video for the Balenciaga collection where in he mentions that people are all trying to become one, loosing self expression, there are no more sub cultures, which has led to a loss of individuality. Maybe creating this “perfect world” that everyone is chasing?

      it is true that loosing our own identity for the sake of society is also a form of a trend. we all are stronger connected with each other, which also leads to the influence of similar trends all over the world. is it good though? i don’t think so, but it’s definitely something that will only get stronger in the future.

    idk... i've been quite dissapointed with personal style propaganda, i don't search it anymore-
    i see fashion as a colective phenomena, as well as the mind (wich is quite mentioned in here), the idea of the individual over the mass, conceiving comun places as not worthy?
    idk i just dont put that pressure on myself anymore, personal style felt more coercive than liberating.

    “No one ever changed the world in joggers” I love it! Screw comfort, let your clothes be the depiction of your internal self! That requires creativity beyond just the mundane trend comforts. Your clothes and appearance have the power to be an ambassador of who we are inside our minds and I don’t take that lightly at all and obviously you don’t either. Much love and respect from a Nigerian Style enthusiast now going to be living in New York City.
    P.S. I got some African designer friends I would love to recommend to you and hep develop a storied understanding of their brands!

    When you asked what were sick of, at the beginning of the video, I immediately thought of these monochromatic looks and leggings 🤣 so we’re on the same page.
    Vogue runway published a really cool article, along with some pictures yesterday, where they discuss that the post- pandemic street -style -looks ,at fashion weeks around the world ,were extremely personal. I really loved to see how isolation has made people more confident with their personal style and detach from trends. Hope this is a good omen for the coming year 😇

    I agree that the way to go is to develop your own personal style. I used to stick to my guns about what I liked, but in the more recent years, I've been influenced by the trends... and now I just feel uninspired. I love your skirt by the way, a beautiful bright purple that I'd love to have in my wardrobe.

  • @Happinc
    @Happinc 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I totally agree with your comments on personal style, and the following of photo shopped influencers that is sadly so prevalent now… all this does is cultivate a sense of inadequacy and unhappiness. The main thing to consider is that if for example cropped things really do suit your certain body type as do high waisted wide legged trousers then just go on enjoying wearing them! It is the media commentary and influencers deciding that these things are “on trend” and others are “out of date” that is just the most irritating thing about fashion… it turns us all into victims of marketing targets. Continue expressing yourself via your clothing choices and finding your own personal style… consider each of your fashion purchases carefully and revel in being your own person, that is the most important thing! 😍

    • @tubaavalon
      @tubaavalon  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      exactly, as long as one really feels what one is wearing, it is independent from any trend. it just should be authentic.

    I am happy that you are discussing these. Great pointers, Tuba. I love that you are saying your opinion confidently without sounding like a fashion gatekeeper. For me, I would love to see less of logo mania trend. I think it is lazy in terms of expressing ones style. Imagine: you are the canvas and instead of painting yourself with different hues and saturation of red, you wanted a convenient way so instead you used words and logos and labelled RED all over. I can’t explain it but I hope you get what I mean.

    Instagram is such an interesting/bizarre space. I remember when the Dries collection was released and being completely blown away by it. Funny enough, I only happened to come across it because I follow the photographer for the shoot, Rafael Pavarotti, and then saw that you had liked a few of the photos. So imagine, two strangers on two different continents meeting and sharing a similar interest in a product from different entry points.
