Apparently what Ruby is wearing for His eyes are actual eyeglasses. Turns out He wears these cause He’s actually nearsighted though he was before too vain when it came to wearing them often🏵️👓 Out of Character Design Changes, what stood out to me is that of Gold’s goggles🥽 & billiard cue🎱 AND The Outfit Evolutions of The OG Kanto DexHolder Trio: Red, Green, & Blue
My favorite Pokémon Adventures Manga designs are Red and Gold. I love Red’s spiky hair backwards design and red jacket and Gold’s Red’ sweater and yellow shorts, goggles and skateboard shows rebellious and adventurous spirit!
I really like how Sapphire got to wear blue. While Ruby got red. It really shows the contrast. I didn't like how Sapphire's clothes went red again in the Oras.
What I think is cute about her clothes is that she only wears whatever Ruby sews for her, so most times she is wearing a modified version of his clothes and that is why she wears red most of the time we see her xD !
2:03 I believe the bandana is meant to provide pressure to his leg, since he still has issues with his hands and legs after the ice incident with Lorelei of the Elite 4
2:08 The bandana on his leg comes from the Safari Zone chapter where a Nidoking cut his leg open and to stop the bleeding he ripped off a bit of Red Fabric from something
Pokémon adventures designs are so cool because as a kid I associated trainers with being you and being nothing more than self inserts but now I see them in a completely different way. Very cool!!
Manga Red will always be my default Red, the one that think of when anyone mentions the character. I just love his design and personality he really has spunk. I also love my girl Blue and it's honestly too bad that in her case she doesn't quite line up with her game counter part and for the most part is just a manga only character ;-; I love her so much

Those arent sunglasses ruby wears, they’re actual glasses. Ruby in pokespe has red irises that are synonymous with poor eyesight in people with albinism. So ruby wears his glasses when he focuses on details but overall can be assumed he’s far sighted
I'm so glad someone else also appreciates and talks about pokemon character designs. It always fascinates me. The designs are simple, cool and very good for the eyes. hahaha.
Gold's design is my favorite and especially those goggles they make him so much cooler. His billiard cue and skateboard adds so much character to him and that hair style is fire. Don't forget that confident smirk too.
You forgot that Kris in Manga have two star earrings, that is what differentiate her with her game counterpart, her bangs and shade of blue for her hair is also different. As for Platinum, her stocking is longer.
You never seize to amaze me at how much we have in common, I saw that sneaky image of Simeon Aype from Inazuma Eleven GO, and he is also one of my favourite characters from that series. This video was an awesome look into all the characters designs and how they also reflect the personality of each protagonist, the design is a big factor in why I prefer certain characters over the game counterparts. Great work. 🐐.
Mato's style will always be my favourite. It has been for the last 24 years for me and it always will be I just hope she will fully recover from her chronic disease
I love characters with googles too!! Davis from Digimon adventure 2 is one of them!! Definitely learned a few differences from the artworks of the protagonist of the games and manga that i didn't really notice haha. I liked the Red and Blue gen 2 designs feel like not many talk about it but certainly fit with the era! The cape of Blue appearing in the yellow arc and then later once again in the XY arc was such a cool addition to his clothing especially his reintroduction in XY! The one thing i will say is that Y was technically of the few to later still go through a couple redesigns throughout the xy arc as she went from having long hair to short hair plus a few clothing changes too!
I think that, while outfit changes might be minor overall, the change in proportions and facial structure are what REALLY help make the characters feel different. The rounded eyes the game characters have make them feel younger and more bright, full of energy, while the more angular eyes of their manga counterparts make them feel older and more experienced, a bit more grounded even. The more realistic proportions also help the characters feel unique. For example, Dawn has super rigid rectangular legs and is generally a bit boxy. Platinum on the other hand has more rounded and defined proportions, helping her feel more alive.
5:04 Okay, so fun fact, so there is this original manga that came before the anime, which both the manga and anime had the goal of promote the PSX game Digimon World. But this manga Digimon Adventure V-Tamer (The V is for V-Jump) came way first and had a Taichi as the only human character initially, won't go over all the details but in there, the first source of the Googles there is a reason to why that Taichi used googles, they were a gift from his grandfather who was part of WW2 and that was the last momento he had of a dear friend he lost because he end up becoming part of the Kamikaze squad. So Taichi because he understands how much his googles represents carries them around to give himself courage when there is something he is too scare to face. There is 2 more actually that have meaning to their googles in the anime, but one is not well explore what it can mean, so i will go with the one i can also explore. Takato the protagonist of Digimon Tamers, who wears them to give himself confidence because in the world of Tamers both adventures animes, they are animes like in our real world. But yeah, it became more of a motif after Takato more then anything. But that's where they originally come from and well the meaning for some of them.
In my version of the games, every protagonist has the appearance they have in the games, but they have the names they have in the manga. So yes, this would mean Kris and Lyra are the same character just with different designs whether it’s gen 2 or gen 4
Okay, just to update since several Scarlet/Violet chapters were out and there were notes regarding the designs. Violet was based on a specific custom hairstyle and the author asked his relatives which of these feel princely, as well as trying to differentiate from another character, Ortega. Scarlet uses the base design of Juliana but added the personality and demeanor of Wednesday Addams from the Addams Family.
Manga Blue (Green) and manga Gold are still my fav rival and protag respectively. Had the FATTEST crush on them as a kid picking up adventures from the library and following along solely based on their designs and personality. Red WOULD have been my fav protag, but I acc like his game counterpart more bc I really respect the silent archetype he is and how that grated/contrasted his game rival, Blue. But they were definitely my favourite Ying and Yang combo
I LOVED the pokemon manga so much! I remember going to my local b&n and looking for a new release. I sadly dont have the collection anymore but I had all from the beginning to dp arcs. Not much but I was pretty proud.

Would've been better if you included there Unique abilities like Yellow being able to heal pokemons without potions, Green (the girl) can easily evolve pokemons, and gold being a good pokemon trader ect.
I think manga Scarlet's design is pretty good. Her hair style is intentionally reminiscent of Wednesday Addams, specifically as she is portrayed in the Wednesday netflix show.
I want to say that redesigned Red in the game looks cooler than original Red in game, whereas original Red from manga looks BETTER than his redesign in manga.
You show Hareta at the end so I'm wondering what a video on other manga adaptations would be like. Especialy since Mitsumi is very different from Dawn, not just in design but in history.
@BJGvideos But it's shown so much in volume 4, and it's already foreshadowed in volume 2, that mitsumi had connections to team galactic. Showing the plot twist in vol 5 wasn't much of a deal 😅
4:58 There are reasons for the Digimon main character's goggles. Tai's grandfather in V-Tamer was a pilot, the goggles Tai wears were a gift from him. Davis wears Tai's goggles, carrying the symbol for another team. Tai giving Davis his blessing to lead the team. Takato wears goggles specifically because Digimon is a franchise in his world. He is wearing them specifically to mimic the other characters. Though they are also used to cover his eyes going into a digital field.
I don't know if it's relevant, but Gary also wears a cape in the 3rd anime opening just like Blue. Maybe it was just a thing that the Pokemon artists thought was cool.
Attractive sex dimorphism should be the standard in Pokémon and even other properties. The oval-shaped eyes are iconic in Pokémon and other Japanese properties.
the bandana around Red's leg was to help him recover from the injuries he sustained from being frozen by Lorelie. although it doesn't make much sense because he was literally frozen from head to toe but only his leg had the lingering side effects.
