Instead of having presumably ONE author do the entire manga, I think it would make sense to at least have another author do PLA unless they want to actually have the Sinnoh dex holders actually going back in time then they kinda need the author for characterization.
@revolvingworld2676 I would've loved to see a pla arc or even having Moon show up in the swsh manga. But unless the scheduling of Pokémon games slow down, I don't think we will
I feel like the perfect storyline for PLA would be to have all the protagonist reunite/meet up in the current day. That way the fans could see how each one of their lives went as they grew older. In the actual story, it could follow a similar Story as the jewel of life where they get sent back in time to hisui and have to stop volo. I feel like this would be the perfect way to give fans closure on how characters are holding up. Like what would the original trio be like in their 20s. How would these characters interact with the new characters like sun and moon and X and y. What are their jobs? And who gets together
It makes sense why the USUM content had to be shoved into the SM arc, and thus why we never got to see Team Rainbow Rocket in the manga. It's also why the non-main duo games are now being skipped, because there's literally no room in the publication schedule for all those games, and not all those games have enough new content to justify getting adapted in the manga. While that's all understandable, we lost the interconnected nature of the manga world I've come to love so much. Feels like we'll never get to see a big team-up of dex holders like in the Emerald arc. XY incorporated Blue into the story as a mentor figure, but then SwSh couldn't even let Moon interact with the Galar gang (or show us more than her silhouette or feet) even though she played an integral part in the back half of that story. Before this change, there was always a chance that a hero from a previous story might come back to lend a hand, but now it seems we'll never get to see these heroes ever again.
@owo4288 they could do a split story with the Legends: Arceus plot. Spacetime distortions can connect the two eras, and have the older dex holders meet the Sinnoh trio at long last.

Wanna know something funny? In Brasil, they decided to translate the manga beginning with the BW manga, and then decided to GO BACK TO RED AND BLUE and have been releasing the entire previous gens before the BW2 manga, with the cliffhanger still there
You'll notice that the arcs of the manga tend to speed through the region a lot faster now. Compare something like the RGB Arc where you see Red go through every route, city, town, and major location and linger there for a little bit to something like the Sword/Shield Arc where I don't believe we even see most of the Gym Battles.
I think it's because of either the game releases or the author and artists are just.. getting tired at this point. They worked on R/S and FR/LF and even Emerald, all 3 chapters at the same time then
Something I noticed that made me really sad and just, feel bad for the creators, during the Sw/Sh arc... the art was always rushed in same places, you'd get panels that were traced ( maybe even copy-pasted ) off of screenshots of the game. It's so unfortunate because I know that this isn't their fault and that they probably wish they could spend their time to draw something truly great ! I don't blame them in the slightest. This kind of release schedule and pipeline literally kills people. I'm never not gonna be advocating for the greater Pokemon schedule to slow down.
The older games also barely had a story so Kusaka was able to be creative and expound on his own story. The newer games having a much tighter story prevented that, aside from the hectic and scuffed publishing schedule.

This i why i always thought the manga should have multiple mangaka working on each arc. Pokemon games get released too quickly for a good manga run to keep up, especially monthly.
I was initially upset at how rushed some of the recent stories have felt but honestly this sounds like a scheduling nightmare and I can only imagine how stressed and frustrated the team must be that they can’t tell the stories properly. BW2 is just the most extreme example of being rushed story-wise but i can understand why they’ve been this way in recent years. Hopefully the team eventually get to find the time to write the stories the way they want to without having to rush

The insane scheduling of the games & remakes between late Gen 4 - early Gen 7 took a significant toll on the Adventures Manga & its storytelling. Story arcs felt cut short, there were tons of cliffhangers, and crossovers happened with lesser impacts. There was a prime opportunity to bring all previous characters together to face Team Rainbow Rocket in Gen 7 but sadly that never came to fruition. Sird as the shadow villain behind the criminal teams also fell flat. The BDSP/Legends Arceus Arc was scrapped entirely. Each new generation is a soft reboot that has very little tie-in (if at all) to the previous continuity. The latter generation games also finally have full stories so they don't really feel like they need a manga tie-in, weakening the impact of the Adventures Manga. I don't mean to criticize the Adventures Manga, but it's long lost the spirit & cohesion it once had from its early days in the first 3 generations.
There's a Japanese fan made manga that I've been following for a few years called "Pokemon- Festival of Champions" and it starts off as a "typical" retelling of Red challenging the Pokemon League, but the author adds some elements from newer gens here and there (e.g. Pokemon, characters from other regions, Mega evolution) with some references to some in-game trivia (Tauros shooting Hyper beams etc.) and imo has the feeling of older Pokemon Adventures arcs. Releases are slow as it's only a hobby for the author, but it usually gets TL'd and put on Mangadex soon after.

I really liked the Pokemon manga growing up, but as the games started to be released more frequently and consistently over recent years, I always felt it was inevitable that the manga would fall behind and start taking shortcuts. The timeline laid out in this video is a perfect example of how prioritizing the new releases kinda screws things up because it highlights the shakey writing, inconsistent release dates, and burnout. I have massive respect for the mangaka for continuing to create Pokespe, but I gotta wonder how much longer it can last and if the best days of the manga are far behind us already.
Oh my god THANK YOU for covering this! I’ve been out of the Pokémon circles for awhile due to how the community tends to be-people say the manga is the chiller one, but I’ve had so not so great experiences within it-so I had no idea if anyone was ever gonna cover this given the manga is niche but I’m glad it was covered in a formate that’s short and gets to the point! BW was and still is my favorite arc of adventures and black is one of my favorite characters ever, so the hiatus was really rough for me, I kept worrying for the story more and more even after he was free cause it still wasn’t completely finish when SWSH came out, but I’m glad it did get wrapped up despite how people feel about the ending. Though I will say; I feel all of the arcs really did take a hit from this and it didn’t shock me when the author said he had burnout. He is LITERALLY the only person working on the manga besides his artist and editor which I find absurd, but I really felt the arcs post BW2 lost their spark so next to me not really being into Pokémon anymore I lost interest with adventures as a whole. I liked ORAS but XY and SM didn’t hit for me, and Gen 7 my favorite Gen too : /. When SWSH manga came out I couldn’t even bother to read much nor have I touch SV, but maybe one of these days I will cause I hope the author gets back on his feet now he doesn’t have to write two stories. (Even if he has the volume releases)
It took so long that I already finished highschool when the final chapter was released. I feel bad for Kusaka and Yamamoto who were forced to rush the BW2 arc.
I just feel blessed I was able to read both arcs last year without interruption. I cannot imagine how the 7 year delay will have felt to experience in real time. It’s bad enough waiting a few months for translations final chapters of X/Y to become available let alone this…. Mess. I guess this goes some way to explain why some aspects felt incredibly rushed, not sure whether a proper release schedule would make me retroactively like Blake or not though.
The Pokémon manga was super important to me, despite only ever reading up to about halfway through RSE as a kid. I had no idea about the crazy gen 5 hiatus issues. As a massive gen 5 fan, this honestly breaks my heart
Man, this Hiatus was wild. I was there during this time, and it was very interesting seeing how fans reacted each time news of a new chapter or hiatus came out. The sad part is that this hiatus, as well as the rapid-fire release of both main game and spin-off titles, really set back the releases of Pokemon Special. As of right now, volume 65, which is supposed to officially end the ORAS arc, has no release date after multiple delays, though we do know that Kusaka and Yamamoto had gotten the greenlight from their publisher regarding something about the ending, so now we know it's coming relatively soon. Or at least in less than a year. That means that, even if they get volume 65 out soon, they still need to catch up on the Sun and Moon arc AND the Sword and Shield arc, which both also suffered from pacing issues, especially the latter. Thankfully, it seems that game releases are going to be spaced out, so this could give them time to catch up, but unfortunately there's still not enough time to explore other angles of the games in Pokemon Special. We'll will likely never get the inclusion of the Rainbow Rocket content in the Sun and Moon chapters, and also likely never get arcs for Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, as well as Legends: Arceus.
Let's hope that this current ORAS hiatus (almost 2 years at this point) doesn't wind up being as bad! Though as a Hoenn fan, it's been almost as rough, haha.
1:51 this frame is so fckn hard: Galvantula was actually not wanted by the MC yet it’s just chillin on the sudo-legendary of the region (Hydreigon) and then you got Munna and ‘boar DT the Elektross, Coffigigrous just *smacked down* in the ground and Volc on the floor (I’m assuming vs the Carracosta) 😭😭😭😭
This video, and your channel overall, made me want to go back to the Pokémon manga, and especially to collect them all, since our French edition by Kurokawa has the 5 first gens compiled in "édition double" which makes the volumes bigger but also way better looking on a shelve, with for example the Diamond and Pearl saga being a 5 volumes serie, i can't stress enough how beautiful of an object the mangas volumes can be, and thanks to you it looks like im gonna collect them all starting with the gen 1 and 4 arcs
I was aware of the delays as well as Black being sealed in the Light Stone, but I did not know that the sealing took place in the volume release! I can only imagine being the fandom seeing that extended ending for the first time. Honestly I can't help but wonder if what happened with the manga, the lower sales of BW2, and to a lesser extent, the original Team Plasma not being used in the anime are the reasons sequels aren't made.
I haven't even read it yet, because at the time I had finished Black & White (my favourite arc in the manga) I couldn't find B2W2 anywhere, and I was shocked to find out it wasn't anywhere near finished. Only recently found it, and I really want to get on to reading it. I hope the break between SV and Legends ZA will give the mangakas the time they need to cook up a banger for the SV arc 🙏.
oh my god, i always wondered what happened! I've been reading pokespe since the DPP arc, and this hiatus took up so much space in my mind lol, mainly because the bw cliffhanger had me by the throat for years
And this is why people ask TPCi to not release new mainline games so aggressively frequent. Pokespe BW2 got a shaky release schedule for chapters, USUM had to be merged with SM, no Team RR story, no LGPE, no Legends Arceus. Now that Legends ZA is looming, it is safe to assume that this won't have an adaptation as well as Scarlet and Violet are still running currently.
I remember when I was reading through the early chapters around 2015 and being confused why the last chapters were part way through BW, and never seemed to update. I'm glad to finally have that mystery in my life solved
How this resulted with what we got in Black2 & White2 Chapter, it made me felt UNsatisfied cause I feel there could’ve been MORE from it ESPECIALLY from BOTH Senpai AND Junior Unova DexHolders😓
I actually liked the BW2 arc quite a bit, but it’s sad to realize how stressed the manga schedule is what with TPCi being the literal worst. Like all artists, the mangaka will just have to do what he can.
I remember reading the bw2 arc a long time after it concluded and thinking the pacing felt super weird. good to know the reason why, but a 7 year hiatus is honestly wild
Wow I never have heard of tankoban getting updated panels and pages from their chapter prints. Ofc some mangaka do make revisions / corrections for mistakes, but to add in new information is super odd to me.
I feel this with the Nora manga sequel Surebrec. The surebrec manga was never realeased in English and Nora is my favorite manga, idk how many years I waited but one day it finally appeared online for free to read in English. I was so happy!!! I have the Surebrec manga in Japanese and all the Nora volumes in English. Very sad the manga sequal was just a single manga and not multiple volumes but I still loved it❤️❤️❤️
Having had adventures as my childhood alongside the anime, the gen 5 anime made me dissapointed. Black/White and Black 2/White 2 were some of my favorite games, and it was sad to see them not get any justice. Strangely enough I picked up the first volume of the Black and White manga and sorta liked it but put it down. Now having picked it back up again and being kinda iffy on it, I was hoping the Black 2 and White 2 manga could perhaps pick things up and make me appreciate the Black and White manga more. It didn't and it makes me sad to see that it was going through so many issue outside of the teams control.
No wonder the BW2 story was so odd. I never did like this story cause it felt rushed... and slow at the same time. The plot just wasn't good compared to the other Adventure stories.
when i was younger i used to love reading pokemon adventures and black and white was my favorite game. I read black and white and loved it so i wanted to read black 2 and white 2 and I loved the first 2 volumes but i was never able to find the next volume at the library. I thought they just didnt have it so i waited and waited until like 3 years past and i gave up. Eventually i came back last year and saw the next 2 volumes but at that point i didnt even care. honestly really disappointing
I will have to say, I didn't know that and now finally I have the answer as to why the german release has volume 1 of bw2 in a red spine and 2-4 in a yellow spine I had always wondered who tf had the brilliant idea to color code them so weirdly, but if we say they released so far apart, I can probably understand still looks horrible on a shelf but here we are xD
Growing up as a little kid reading the BW manga and having read the depressing cliff hanger of volume 9 shortly after the book came out, the hiatus left me hollow, It was made worse by the fact the last bw2 volume feels like such an anti-climax after the battle.
I still rmb as a kid this happening. This is why i never liked Black and White 2. If they never made Blake and Whitley seperate characters to Black and White this would never had happened.
At this point they could’ve said f it and waited for the Unova Remakes and focus on the current games 😂 then when remakes confirmed use that storyline and new content
Well honestly, pokemon isn’t a franchise that lends itself well to manga. Yugioh either. At least in my opinion. I say that because their video games offer a better story narrative where I can engage in my own deck building or team building and am less interested in the story of a character in their respective worlds. (Original Yugi and Pharaoh’s story was the only one I cared about in Yugioh)
We can't blame the team at all, which was under incredible pressure with a small budget and three people, two of whom were writers and only one of whom was an artist Game Freak are the bad guys here because no one is forcing them to release a game every year, especially if most of their games lately have been sucks also the Pokemon Company because they are so stingy that they don't hire other people with the current team
Uh No no Game Freak was being forced to release a new Pokemon game every year, bu the Pokemon company. Yes they own 1/3rd of it but they also need to have to bow to the needs of TPC because TPC handled Pokemon as a whole. Blame TPC/TPCI, not Game Freak. Ya know, the devs who needed more time and finally got more time when TPC/TPCI outside said they'd be giving Game Freak more time to get better quality out of them.

I recall making that image shown on 9:59 on that subreddit some months ago
Let's hope that this current ORAS hiatus (almost 2 years at this point) doesn't wind up being as bad! Though as a Hoenn fan, it's been almost as rough, haha.
Sword and Shield is still getting mini volumes even though Scarlet and Violet, the successive games for the source material, are nearly two years old.
Appreciate it 🙏
And your right volume covers look amazing on shelf
No wonder why Frieren is popular now. She started with this alongside the Pokemon manga.
I've been reading pokespe since the DPP arc, and this hiatus took up so much space in my mind lol, mainly because the bw cliffhanger had me by the throat for years
great vid!
Yk its good when your favourite Pokemon TH-camr posts an new video
I remember when I was reading through the early chapters around 2015 and being confused why the last chapters were part way through BW, and never seemed to update.
I'm glad to finally have that mystery in my life solved
Absolute banger
When is the next pokemon adventures?
this is one of the many reasons why a yearly pokemon game release isnt needed
I waited and waited for 3000 years and it was worth it :3
I feel this with the Nora manga sequel Surebrec.
I hate how much I love pokemon
real
B2W2 was a mess
Yup
Still shorter than the GoT books hiatus
when i was younger i used to love reading pokemon adventures and black and white was my favorite game.
I will have to say, I didn't know that
and now finally I have the answer as to why the german release has volume 1 of bw2 in a red spine and 2-4 in a yellow spine
I had always wondered who tf had the brilliant idea to color code them so weirdly, but if we say they released so far apart, I can probably understand
still looks horrible on a shelf but here we are xD
This was my favorite Pokémon manga and always wondered what happened to it
Those 7 years pokemon manga fans felt how it feels to be a loomian legacy fan
Growing up as a little kid reading the BW manga and having read the depressing cliff hanger of volume 9 shortly after the book came out, the hiatus left me hollow, It was made worse by the fact the last bw2 volume feels like such an anti-climax after the battle.
I don't remember when I read the end of the BW chapter but I wasn't aware of the hiatus and was so confused as to why Black's story ended in BW.
pokemons yearly release schedule for the games and its consequences
I forgot how many jokes about the B&W make protag being a rock
The best pokemon youtuber dropped again
The Dark Times of the Pokemon Manga ;-;
This makes me glad I wasn't really following the black and white 2 arc at this time in my life haha. Sounds agonizing to have kept up with 😆
The thick of it!!!????
Man.. I feel kinda grateful I turned to the manga around a year ago. It must have been awful for the wait
B2W2 is really THE arc that suffered the most, but HGSS is another really rushed and that killed much of the potential of that Story
Hope you're having a good day
I only read up to the Heartgold/Soulsilver arc
Black and white felt like a slow start and i never finished it
Blake looks like me during the math exam tbh
I still rmb as a kid this happening. This is why i never liked Black and White 2. If they never made Blake and Whitley seperate characters to Black and White this would never had happened.
Why doesn't TPC take a break so the manga can capture? Pokémon is fairly big that they can survive a while without an increase in pay.
They won't adjust to the manga, it's the manga that has to adjust to the games. Sad state of affairs.
Yes i read pokemom spec ongoing that time just frustation 😢
Hello, please can you make a video "what if gold and silver were not defeated by the masked man
I've never heard a hiatus being called "cursed", so it sounds like people were really desperate!
It's called cursed because the protagonist was sealed in the ball. People are not desperate, just impatient.
The Japanese aren't very good at finishing stories and if they do it's usually messy (fingers crossed for One Piece)
That's why I couldn't read it on manga website
At this point they could’ve said f it and waited for the Unova Remakes and focus on the current games 😂 then when remakes confirmed use that storyline and new content
when gen 4 manga explaination ?
After part 5 and 6
where can you read this
Is it just me or does TPC struggle with sequels as a whole?
That explains a lot :/
I do like the BW2 arc, however it’s mostly for Whitley’s character, and the payoff for BWs ending.
bro hates hunter x hunter 💀
What a shock, the EA-like release schedule of the mainline games was not good for multimedia.
Wtf red at
Hi
Hi 👋
And that arc sucked in top of all...the BW1 characters were the best part
Stopping fatherless bts fans from saying 'first'

Well honestly, pokemon isn’t a franchise that lends itself well to manga. Yugioh either. At least in my opinion. I say that because their video games offer a better story narrative where I can engage in my own deck building or team building and am less interested in the story of a character in their respective worlds. (Original Yugi and Pharaoh’s story was the only one I cared about in Yugioh)
We can't blame the team at all, which was under incredible pressure with a small budget and three people, two of whom were writers and only one of whom was an artist
Game Freak are the bad guys here because no one is forcing them to release a game every year, especially if most of their games lately have been sucks also the Pokemon Company because they are so stingy that they don't hire other people with the current team
Uh
No no
Game Freak was being forced to release a new Pokemon game every year, bu the Pokemon company.
Ok first, wtf is a hiatus. Second, thank goodness I only started reading the mangas in 2024. Now I don't gotta wait
People died during that hiatus, here's to the fans that didn't get to see it return 🫡
I remember the fans went mad all over social media when White and Black finally reunited🥲 Use to be trending on Twitter, it was very popular in Japan.
