- Anyone growing up in the United States in the past century has almost certainly heard of the “Chattanooga Choo Choo” at some point in their lives. Chattanooga, in Eastern Tennessee is a central rail hub for the United States train networks, and it has been that was since as far back as the civil war - in fact it was the site of several battles between the Union and Confederate Armies as Chattanooga itself was vital to supply chains and the war effort.
But was there ever really a train called the Chattanooga Choo Choo? And if not, where did this familiar railroad moniker come from? Join me as I explore Chattanooga and the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum for clues about this famous train.
