Puts a smile on your face to see how simple but durable equipment was made to last. Like a 1917 Model T...with a crank handle to start....no battery. Got to love the people back then. THANK YOU!!

Steve, old tractors have a special place in my history. At 8 years old, I learned basic driving skills on my Grandad's '46 Ford 8N tractor. I was brush hoggin' not long after that. Tractors like these are from men worked as hard as their machines. No A/C, no radios or GPS. If they broke down, you fixed them yourself, even if you had to rebuild the motor! It's good to know at least some folks keep their history alive for others to know and understand...

A buddy of mine collects old tractors and big engines and has a bunch around has property for yard art. When he was in his 20's he had a machine shop on his property and would fabricate his own parts when he couldn't find what he needed while restoring some of these old tractors. He has a few engines that are so big their are mounted to the frame of a small semi truck. He has a huge engine similar to that one with the wheel you have to spin to start, it is in his front yard and he uses air and propane to fire it up without having to spin the big wheel in the side. He has saved over 45 old tractors from the scrap yard from early 1930's-1970's and had them around his property as art.

Still love tractors. Grew up on a farm in MN until I was 12. We didn't have any John Deeres but our neighbors did, just like these. Ours were all Farmalls and Oliver's. Steve, you are correct in saying how simple they are. I've known of people with limited mechanical skills that totally overhauled tractors.

Thanks for sharing back in the 70's I worked in the oil patch in Kansas. I saw many oil wells running on the old hit and miss motors. They would run all day and night without any problems. Now on to the A. My gpa had one and I learned at a young age how to start it. He passed away in 65 when I was 13 years old. When they had the farm sale I spun that fly wheel over one time and it fired right up. I found out later the guy who bought it said if a kid can start it that easy then it must be a good tractor.
When I was two I was going to help out my gpa while he was in drinking his coffee. I took a bucket of water and I was going to fill the radiator like I saw him do. Only problem I couldn't reach the radiator. So I climbed on the seat and there was a cap in front of the steering wheel. So I dumped the water in the tank that happened to be the fuel tank. Being 2 I probably didn't get very much water in the tank. The tractor still ran because they ran on about anything.
