  • Takeoff is at 20:15.
    Here is the whole departure of Delta Air Lines flight 1647 from New York-LGA to Atlanta-ATL on November 15th, 2014. We begin at pushback, followed by engine startup and then we taxi to runway 4, and take off. No geese this day, luckily! This flight was operated on N690DL, a Boeing 757-232 powered by a pair of Pratt & Whitney PW2037 engines.

    I spent 7 yrs. flying the 75/76 for Delta and it was a blast! Back then Delta still had the 767-232, which the pilots called the "dumptruck". It flew like one. It's short body reduced stability and the sloppy cable controlled fuel control units were lousy. The 767-332 were better ( like all long jets mind the tailstrike risk) with the longer body. Best of the 76's was the 332ER which featured higher weights due to the GE engines with more than 62K lbs. of thrust (Vs. 50k) and FADEC (fully automatic digital engine control) engine controls. The 757 however was more humble but the best to fly. Weight/thrust, control harmony, versatility were unmatched. I remember my worst landing in the 75- MSY, and my best- all the rest. It was easy to roll it on but getting the nosegear down smoothly was a bitch (try doing a wheeley in a shopping cart and you'll know what I mean).

    People not from New England have no idea how big NYC is, you did a good job with the cam to show the scope. The 757 is the best intermediate airliner to fly on, i think... Some would argue for the A320. I won't fly on a Airbus...alot of preventable big accidents because of stupid shit!!!

    • @pvsantos999
      @pvsantos999 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ditto. You are probably referring to Air France 447, etc. I'd rather have good pilots than being at the mercy of computer programmers. Different philosophies, with Boeing the pilot has the most authority, with Airbus it's the computer. I think it's easier for Airbus pilots to become complacent and overwhelmed when a true emergency arises.

      @@jayo_z Right, the PWs are much better. The RB 211 always had problems from the beginning (1970s). Having an additional middle compressor and middle turbine and the consequent tube inside a tube inside a tube type of shaft resulted in more frequent replacement of bearings. Remember the engine issues with the L1011? And new RR Trents are based on the same design?

    • @benjaminkohl342
      @benjaminkohl342 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Gerard Moran I'm sorry I did not mean "late" as in it was supposed to be off the ground earlier, but rather it used up a whole lot of runway with its weight and thrust/flap setting, etc.

    • @benjaminkohl342
      @benjaminkohl342 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Gerard Moran It didn't use TOO much runway, but just a lot of it. Remember, runway 4-22 at LGA is only 7001' long!

    • @gerardmoran9560
      @gerardmoran9560 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Benjamin Kohl Some of the scariest takeoffs I've done were the LGA-PBI on warm days with a full boatload on the 727-232. Liftoff and V2 occurred with 1000' remaining. Sometimes we had to use flaps 25 (with AC packs off) vs. 15. You got off sooner but you would be worse off if you lost an engine during 2nd segment climb. Takeoff planning is a balancing game.

    When did the first B757 enter into service?

    • @boblackey1
      @boblackey1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Roger Williams The first 757's were delivered in 1982 and the last 2 were delivered in 2005 for a total of 1,049. Over 800 are still in service with Delta here being the largest operator of 757's with just over 150 planes. American retired part of their fleet. The one's with this engine here, Pratt and Whitney, but kept their planes with Rolls Royce engines. Delta took 14 of the American planes as their fleet is Pratt and Whitney power.
      I'm hearing rumors that Boeing may return to building the 757 but with new model engines from Pratt and Whitney or CMF which would be their Leap engine. These new engines have not entered service yet but will burn less fuel, have a smaller carbon footprint and not make as much noise. The new Pratt and Whitney geared turbofan engine and the CFM leap are the two options on the new A320 family coming from Airbus and the CFM leap will be the only option on the new version of the Boeing 737.
