I have the same Garmin watch. I have not had that issue, but mine has been getting my walking distance wrong. This has happened a handful of times over the last month. I have a 2 mile route I sometimes take and it has overestimated my mileage (significantly) a few times of late. My Garmin Inreach mini has also been giving me issues, but it is underestimating distance similar to your watch. 🤷♀️
It’s driving me crazy! Lol Today I did a 3 mile hike and I set my Garmin to walk instead of hike and it said I only did 1.5 miles. 🤪 I specifically bought it to track hikes, walks and runs. Idk what to do about it though. 🙄
Not sure about technology. Do you need to update? Other than that, is the distance of your step something you input? Maybe redo that? I have been using Relive app for mileage and elevation. I saw it on another TH-cam channel. It even records distance daily when not recording a hike, and it’s more accurate than anything else I’ve tried.
I finally figured out my watch! I had to watch a lot of videos and do a deep dive but now it works great! I’ll have to check out the Relive app too. Thanks for the suggestion!

Maybe at some point. He’s never had much vacation time but now he has more so it might be a possibility that he can do short sections with me.
