    I will always be a huge Manowar fan. When I was 21 I got in a motorcycle wreck. Being mostly unconscious medics cut my Manowar shirt off. I was pretty upset about that. My friend had actually partied a little with Manowar once after a concert and had the email of one of their roadies. He sent a message to Manowar about my moto wreck and tshirt.
    A week or two later Eric Adams called my house to ask me how I was doing. He also sent me a new shirt in the mail.
    Awesome band. I loved the shows I went to back late 90’s and 2000’s

      @@prvzmalek I don't think Manowar lost touch, I just think people don't take them as a serious metal band anymore and won't "actually" interview them anymore. They'd probably rather taunt them and ask stupid questions, instead of genuine ones....

    • @prvzmalek
      @prvzmalek 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe that's true good point but when they are interviewed there is a bit of a bad attitude. Maybe my perception is wrong. Maybe I'm sour because I haven't enjoyed anything much from them since woft.

      @basilmcwestern1208 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@prvzmalek I must admit, I haven't watched any interview of them in a long time. It's just the general attitude towards the band that I know from the "scene". The thing is: they built characters of themselves but in a warrior persona and some people in the metal scene don't seem to understand that distinguish between the performers and the personas they perform. Joey made a good step by doing his spoken word tour and opening up about the people and himself in Manowar. He's an entirely different person when he just talks. But people will never seize to see Manowar as the band that "sold out".

Didn't bother giving them a chance and years later I heard one of their songs (power of thy sword) when I was listening to Power Metal. I was absolutely blown away. So he gives a fellow metalhead & I a ride home & asks "do you know Manowar"? Still fairly new to classic metal, I reply "not really..." So he blasts songs from Kings of Metal & Triumph of Steel on a long winded journey home... I remember thinking "what am I doing with my life"?! & immediately rectifying my lack of Manowar in my life the next day by buying Warriors of the World & quickly working my way backwards from there.

Every album with Ross the boss is awesome, but those 2 from 1984 are incredible and I don't know which one is better. Mountains, The Oath and GUYANA is the song brilliant with the lyrics and Eric Adams singing is at His best of all the Manowar songs.
      I started to listen to Manowar before The Triumph of Steel came out. I was surprised never heard of them and having better vocalist then Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden)! Over 30 years now I listen to Death Metal and little later Black Metal too. But '80s Manowar I still listen with joy today and in the future I guess, I love there uniqueness! 🤘🏿

    Thanks so much for this thorough exploration of Manowar. I have been a fan of their very distinct and unique style of Heavy Metal since I was about 15 years old. Now, at 40, my love for this unapologetic and rough brand of rock n roll is as strong as ever. Fortunately, I was able to look past the antics and the - quite frankly - ridiculous public image and take their music for what it is - an audio-visualization of Conan the Barbarian. It's not serious, but neither is it meant to be taken at face value. It's just epic tales, nothing more, nothing less. To capture our imagination and take us somewhere else for a couple of minutes. The vocals of Eric Adams, whom I consider to be the most underappreciated singer in metal, who can switch between dreamlike storyteller and screaming warbeast almost effortlessly - the bass of Joey DeMaio (except the fuzzy sound on "Lord of Steel", what was that all about?), which sounds like nothing I have ever heard before and gives their songs a rock-hard, crystal-clear foundation - the wonderfully narrative solos of Ross the Boss that only enhance that grand epic scale of the worlds they create - and the mostly very basic drum work of Scott Columbus, which provides fanciless structure and exactly that headbanging rhythm we are looking for. No matter how many unnecessary Re-release albums they churn out, I will always love this band and their amazing body of work.

    One of those bands that, like Kiss, was swallowed up by their own paraphernalia, and dismissed by critics as a phony act, but Eric Adams is one of the Top5 Classical Metal Singers, DiMaio an incredibly well-read and prolific songwriter (and with a very recognizable Piccolo bass sound), Ross the Boss and David Shankle excellent shredding guitarists with a melodic side (something you cannot say about Jason Becker, for example), and Scott Columbus was like Conan himself behind the drum kit. It doesn't get better than that, ultimate Power-Metal/High-Fantasy band. If you don't like that style, walk away, but these guys were Masters of their craft, at least from 1982 to 2008.

    I feel the reason that Manowar re recorded Battle Hymns and Kings of Metal is because the band sounds different now. I agree the re recordings are not an improvement, but they are a much closer representation of what the band sounds like live these days. Eric's voice is deeper. The band plays in D standard tuning now. Recording technology has changed. I think of the re recordings as a snapshot in time rather than something meant to replace or improve upon the original.

    Defender, Master of the Wind, Heart of Steel, Battle Hymn, so many songs that put Manowar in a category of their own, creating an atmosphere of raw epic soaring emotion that has never been replicated. Barbaric yet refined, no one can touch them in this aspect, no band even comes close, at all. "For every day that stings, to better days it brings, nothing is as bad as it seems."
