What I mean is is the dowel not required to b screwed to the cake base since it’s an eight inch sphere cake? Will it hold the shape and not slide off considering it being round from the bottom ??

No. This was fine . Won't slid as I'm using ganache . :)

3 parts chocolate and one part cream.. for example 300g white chocolate and 100g cream

Whipped cream is tricky. This will work with Dairy whipped cream too.. But not non dairy:(

Just adds more stability and keeps the bottom cakes from collapsing due to the weight. Yes I would highly recommend it
