    I saw a great idea from a flight attendant once, put one of the shoes you plan to wear in the safe along with your valuables, that way you won’t forget to open it as you can’t walk out without it.

    Interesting fact about Bonza 737 Maxes. They were ordered by LOT, however the airline refused to pick them up from Boeing to gain leverage in a court battle (LOT sued Boeing for compensation due to 737 Max grounding). LOT never picked them up and they went to Bonza, and then in 2022 when Blue Air went bankrupt, LOT took advantage of the situation & took over leases of Blue Air's 5 737 Max 8's.
    Now 737 Max 8's with LOT's initial interior design fly for Bonza, and the ones with Blue Air's cabin layout fly for LOT.

      Thanx 4 the info. Very interesting given that I regularly fly Lot on the VIE-WAW route and seldom been on the Boeing units. That route mainly uses Embraers.

    Hopefully on your Johannesburg flight your on the left hand side of the plane to see the ice bergs & Antarctic coastline. As you probably already know they turn the lights off & sleep time when you fly over it but it’s worth looking at the map & keeping the blind open . When I flew over in 2018 in the top deck of the Qantas 747 business class I asked the stewards if you see any ice bergs which they said yes quite often. Surprisingly she came back to me & said she spoke to the captain & he will let her know when he spots one & I’ll come & let you know & also he will fly lower than usual so I can get a good view ! Sure enough a few hours into the journey she came & said there’s a couple of ice bergs now. It really made my flight that more special.

    Hey Josh, fantastic review and a great new take on the LCC business model from Bonza! I was in a presentation by Bonza's CEO, and the reason for the app-only interface is that they developed their own proprietary booking system from the ground up to avoid fees to licence an established system - although you think they could provide the webapp in desktop form? He also said that it allows for end-to-end control over notifications sent to the customer, although I'm a little dubious about that claim because airline app notifications can be unreliable. Regardless, fantastic to see such a strong vision and passion for Australian aviation from someone who was involved in Virgin Blue's founding!

    There's not much with a low cost airline it's basic so having a relaxed friendly crew is important it makes the flight more pleasant nice to see a nice crew

    • @JimDean002
      @JimDean002 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Exactly. It's not so bad being packed in like cattle if the crew actually treats you like human beings instead of livestock. Most people can put up with it for a couple of hours to save some decent money but there's no need to make the whole experience miserable when you don't have to

    • @Dan-xx5jq
      @Dan-xx5jq 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JimDean002 I hadn't thought about that. They say the crew make up for the same with Southwest airlines in the US. They are always very pleasant, and even sing sometimes or tell a few clean jokes on the intercom during delays.
      Of course one would hope they are not underpaid or overworked.
      It is tough sometimes to be trapped in that seat with limited space for a few hours. The last thing you need is to be treated poorly.
      I have always found international carriers out perform our America carriers on international flights for the same price and most times for less than the American Airlines. The international carriers constantly feed you and serve non alcoholic drinks all during the flight. On the other hand our American carriers are stingy on the food and hand you one drink during your meal and that is it, sometimes on an 8 hour flight and it sucks. I never understood why that is the case? I always pick an international carriers each time if it is a long distance flight.

    Passport drama is always a good travel story. In 2017 I visited relatives in Norway and had a great trip. I scan my passport to board plane and before I get settled in my seat- I check to make sure my passport is where I thought I left it. It wasn't where I thought it was. Long story- but I get kicked off the plane, have to get an emergency passport in Oslo from the US Embassy, and pay for a new flight home. Total lost 2k. 4 years later I get a new job, and decide this cool portfolio thing I have is really good to carry my I-9 documents. I open up is secret comparment and guess what I saw? That passport was with me the entire time.
    Since then- I have one spot for the passport in the backpack, and I'm not putting it in a safe deposit box.

    I actually flew Bonza for the first time on Friday. I have to say I found the app booking a lot easier than I expected, the prices were good, and the experience overall was fantastic. The app was working for me on the flight, it was easy to navigate but I didn't like that things were added after take-off and it wouldn't let me connect the card from my phones saved details.
    The wine being served in a bonza reusable plastic cup was a little odd but it was alright, and apart from having a fairly limited range I enjoyed all that I got, and it was reasonably priced. Only other downside was that my plane was a bit dusty on the inside.
    Staff were all super super happy, loved the PowerPoint's, and I enjoy the extra kg of carry on baggage they allow you (although unlike jetstar they didn't weigh my bag so that was nice too). The in flight entertainment was limited, but it's budget friendly so I'm not complaining.
    I also noticed that when it's busier they add more flights at similar prices to the original, so we ended up with three flights in one day, a different day to their normal departures, which was awesome. So if you don't find a flight on your preferred day check back a little closer. Hoping to fly my Granddad up for Xmas on them so it'll be interesting to see how the technophobe finds it.
    I also still have a sour face about the Max 8, but I applaud Bonza for getting a deal on their fleet to make it possible.

    Great review. After taking my luggage to the lobby, I always return to the room to check for items I may have missed tucked away in the drawers, wardrobes, or something that might have slipped under the bed.
    I prefer the smaller less congested airports because I walk less and the lines if any, are a lot shorter.
    I look forward to your Sydney to Johannesburg flight.

    If they got a developer which said: Lets develop the app first because a app is necessary for customer experience (check in, bording pass) more then a nice website would be.

    i feel that Bonza has shown that budget airlines can still be amazing.
    in South Africa we also have some budget airlines, namely FlySafair and Lift! i think you should check them out some time, they seem like incredible budget airlines, just like Bonza!

    You pretty much said it. The outcome of the unfortunate Max disaster is that the aircraft is now probably the safest in the world. Not only that, but the certification process has become more stringent, which will lead to safer aircraft in the future.

      @@andyphillips7437 In legal terms, still negligence. Believe me, lawyers had compelling cases against Boeing, but ultimately the only way to hurt corporations is in their wallets. Boeing not only lost a lot of money, but also a lot of goodwill.

      @jamesg6815 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @sainnt The goodwill aspect is highlighted in Josh’s comments. Think there is also some European pride and schadenfreude involved as well.
      Appreciate your ability to highlight positive outcomes and legal realities of the debacle absent the patriotism that usually involves these types of discussions.

    Best advice for not leaving things in a safe is to leave one of your shoes in there. You won’t get far with only one shoe and won’t leave anything in the safe! X

    Top tip as ex BA crew - CSD! When using a hotel safety deposit box, also put a shoe in there too, preferably the one you will be wearing on leaving the hotel!!! Great reminder unless of course you are bare foot!!! 😂😊

    I find ANY AIRLINE operating from Avalon to be stress free because the airport is so small........FYI it used to be an airforce airport but thankfully it wasn't sold for housing developments.......As Melbourne gets bigger more and more homes are being built in that direction and Melbourne NEEDS to airports for the future........Sydney only has one airport and it is absolute chaos as a second airport is being built. Avalon may be quiet now but it will only get busier.

    Josh, Robin told his fellow superhero regarding Bonza's dense seating and tight legroom: "Holy DVT and blood clots, Batman,"! However, I wish Bonza success. Hopefully, they will provide Australians more choices by operating from smaller airports to larger ones, like Port Macquarie to Cairns, and competitively priced, above-average Buy on Board catering.
