Always learning things about this band. Each one: A integral part of the whole. These guys were blasting in my ear everyday back I the late 70's. When Benjamin Orr lost his battle with Cancer, my heart ripped and broke. The man still played on stage a mere 6 days before he passed. Talk about dedication. His last most important legacy that he left behind is his name sake son BENJAMIN ORR JR. NOTHING LIKE YOU GUYS. NOTHING.
The Cars's songs coming from car's radio, walkman, cd or cassette, wow, man, that's memory a lot of our kids this day of age would never experience it.
Ric, you ARE missed...been playin' your stuff since 77. You are and were prolific with what you did and have done. Ben is also missed as much The music of th CARS shaped my own writing style. I have learned so VERY MUCH from th way you wrote even to th way you presented yourself and your music. Thank you, you and Ben are surely missed.....
1981-82, the first record I ever got. The most immersive music I ever heard. At 50 I am still still in awe of his persona and songwriting. Hope you and Ben are getting together!
When they first came out, they were like no band ever heard before!!! I had their albums at home and the 8 tracks in my car! One of my most favorite bands of all time!! High school, college memories and still today, so relevant in my life! Their songs bring back so many relevant times in my life. Whether it is me by myself, High School, being in my car listening to them, road trips,College, friends I was with, and still today with CD’s, so many distinct memories! I got to see them at the Richmond Colliseum in Va. in the 80’s. Hit after Hit after Hit!! Top notch! To me, every single song they ever did was a hit! One of my most all time most favorite bands!! Memories of my life flow back to me every-time I hear one of their songs. I was so sad when Rick and Ben passed away. I love that the remaining band members keep their memories alive!!
Ric Ocasek, you are amazing, dude. Have been diggin' your tunes since the late 70s. You guys rock! Oh, and Paulina is definitely a HOTTIE!! Best of luck!
You are right on -- they did do a wonderful job of interweaving their old sound with new technology without sacrificing one bit of what makes them The Cars. It's too bad the album hasn't received much promotion. I can listen to the whole thing straight through and not be itching to fast forward to the next song. I would have to say my favorite song is Sad Song. I also like Soon. Heck, I like 'em all. Can I just say that Ric's voice has not missed a beat? He sounds like he did in 1985!
Listening to anything from The Cars is like a Time Machine to the late 70' and Early 80's - AWESOME Rock Pop! Keep pumping the new songs and videos eh!
Same here, its interesting to me how their music, in particular, (especially the first album and Candy-O) truly puts my mind, mood and everything back into the late 70s. Kinda surreal at times to be quite honest. Its a weird place to be in, just turning 50 and my mind still thinks like a 15 year old in '78.
70sRefugee Exactly... I remember "borrowing my brother's Cars albums and recording them on my cassette tape deck... on "metal" tapes :-) Good Times eh! My two daughters (14/16) also love the Cars and most of the 80's music (plus all of their own music) They listen and appreciate all types of music - just like their old man! Stay young 70Refugee - life is too short to get old :-)
It's kind of amazing now with TH-cam we have access to countless interviews with celebs we knew. Musicians, actors, and athletes. Getting to see what they're really like when not "preforming". That many of them are people who get super nervous as would most of us if we had to go on stage and stand before 10,000 people or talk to one interviewer in a room knowing we're being recorded. Ric always seems soft-spoken. Something I guess his wife Paulina liked. Wasn't looking for the LOUD stereotypical rocker. Shame Ric passed away in 2019. And the "something" Paulina recently had to go through which she openly told her Instagram followers...something that would get to most of us let alone an ex-supermodel. Considered "one of the most beautiful women in the world"...
Whatever creative differences that developed between these guys, they are all down to earth guys. Love seeing all these interviews with the individual members. Sucks that Ben drank too much toward the end and it caused a strain but all of these guys are solid dudes, solid musicians. I especially like seeing Ric like this because he was the most elusive and odd of them all but man what a good guy to see, listen to and talk to.
Must have Coca-Cola, Are you thinking of the Do Not Enter earring? That's not what he's wearing (too long and narrow), plus his ex-w Judith said she has it.
For some reason rivers cuomo of weezer is very similar to this guy. They are both smart, humble, cool and have amazing voices. There voices sound VERY similar too
Yep, O-Cah-sek. I thought the very same thing, and so did my older brother..lol. It is very 80's sounding, which is great! I love & I'm a huge fan and supporter of 80's music. But see, they did a great job of interweaving that sound (their formula) with todays sounds & technology. Perfect example is the song Free, from Move Like This. That song is awesome and I feel it should have went to No. 1 on the charts! But I don't think the album was properly supported & promoted by their record company.
Yes, I agree! Free sounds TOO awesome....It should have charted (and charted high). What annoys me is that if U2 did that song, it would have went straight to No.1....And I think it would have went that high w/ the Cars too, it just wasn't promoted properly like it should have been. It's also sad that I think a lot of Orr fans out there resent and dislike Ric for various and stupid reasons that I really can't understand.
So it's really "o-CAH-sek" and not "o-CAY-sek"? I always thought it was the latter. I'm a huge fan, but I honestly had a hard time watching the interview and I can't help but to feel a little embarrassed for Shawn Stewart. How can she say that she's a huge fan and not know that the Cars toured EXTENSIVELY when they were the "early" Cars/"Mach 1" Cars in the 80s? Nonetheless, Ric seems like a pretty cool guy (fingernail paint and all). I love the new album -- it's straight out of the 80s!
I wasn't even sure if they'd toured for Panorama, in 1980, being so young at the time, but indeed they did. They were always out touring from 78-85, especially for album releases, etc. I didn't get to see them till Door To Door in 1987 at MSG, but at least I finally got to see them live.
You have no ideas how disappointed I am to see that this comment was posted almost a year ago - I was just at the Union Sq. Barnes and Nobles the other day...
Have u ever heard of a microphone ? And no, she didn't do her homework. He's more annoyed by the interviewer and the stupid questions. And please don't repeat "right" "right"....you never ever say that - interviewing 101. Of course he's right - he's he source and you are the receiver. I am finished - she did pick a good subject to be interviewed.
If people like this lady continues to do tour interviews,The Cars will retire again soon.Uniformed and clueless on The Cars history. That is the state of music today.....Clueless and unlistenable garbage.Thank god Devo,Cake,Social Distortion, and The Cars had new albums this year.
What a terrible terrible inept interviewer...how does she have a job ?...smh...as usual the CARS band members are all class...R.I.P. RICK OCKASEK and BENJAMMIN ORR...may GOD accept you in the eternal heavenly kingdom....
It's mostly this child-woman interviewer's fault, but IMO, the truly-awesome Ric Ocasek is usually a fairly boring interview. They all insist on talking to him anyway, but if you want a really _good_ interview, you talk to Elliot Easton. Not that Ocasek isn't a genius, but he isn't a _raconteur_ or whatever the term. You don't just ask him a couple of questions and he tells you a great story. He's never had to be like that, anyway. Some bands owe a large part of their success to the rock-critic community (i.e., U2, REM) but the Cars were never one of them. Their first album was a monster success, and the critics had no say in the matter whatsoever. Critics should have _loved_ the Cars for bringing poetry into the Top Forty, but they sure as hell didn't. _Now_ they know better, but at the time? FAIL.

so sad ! RIP Ric . you made my childwood so much fun ! I just turned 50 and when I listen to your songs I feel like a kid again ! thank you !
4 ever I think he is saying that Ric gave him his first boner. Ric’s music has that effect on some people. “Childwood” 😂
RIc was such a handsome man, & my all time favorite is Magic!
The Cars's songs coming from car's radio, walkman, cd or cassette, wow, man, that's memory a lot of our kids this day of age would never experience it.
Rest in Peace, Ric! Ur genius is engrained in my soul forever. Thank God for the Cars!

Truly grateful for the musical genius Ric Ocasek.
We miss you Ric ..your best lovely song of 'Emotion in motion' still lingers in our ears up 'till now..best wishes always from Paradise Fiji
He said he was not a entertainer. He had the coolest animated look. He was a entertainer!
What a LEGEND - And Seems like SUCH a nice guy. I wish I could have met him...
Admittedly, being a big Ocasek fan I am biased.....but no matter how old he gets, Ric will always be very cool to me
TheSeebeesee He's always going to be cool
he is a legend
Ric is the coolest guy on the flat earth
Hear! hear!
It wasn't cool what he did to Paulina
What a cool, interesting talented individual Ric was. Thank you for sharing your magic with us. Rock on, buddy ...
RIP Ric Ocasek, The Cars, my first album I ever owned
Wherever you are Rick let the good times roll. 💙R.I.P RIC OCASEK 💙 Thank you for the music.
What an awesome person. She tells him The Cars didn't play much live in the early days...he was so calm in his response to her.
Hopeless interviewing.
A jerk would have chided her for not doing her research. He handled it so deftly.
@@erreugeto Ric was always a class act.
RIP Ric and thanks for being part of the soundtrack of my life 🎗
As mellow as he is, he should of lived forever... Missed you when The Cars broke up, and really miss you now and Ben.
5:34 This man has his priorities "Cause I went thru a couple of families during that time". Realizing what he missed. I really admire this guy.
We are all growing old and he looks the same!!!
I love Rick too he is also handsome..
Omg! when he spoke, the sounds so tander, I like his sound so much🥰🥰🥰
R.i.p Ric your music will always be loved

the coolest guy to ever wear glasses!!!!!
Buddy Holly was cool, too! Roy Orbison, as well!
Oh, wait... how about John Lennon?! :D
Why hide behind sunglasses when he has beautiful eyes?
Ric invented the wayfarer shades
He had beautiful eyes, I don't know why he always wore his glasses?
Lil Wayne made those glasses popular again in 2009 but it was Ric Ocasek who made them popular first in 1978
And yes, you're right about that- His voice does sound great. It definitely hasn't missed a beat.
Ric Ocasek, you are amazing, dude. Have been diggin' your tunes since the late 70s. You guys rock! Oh, and Paulina is definitely a HOTTIE!! Best of luck!
I love how laidback Ric seemed. :)
⭐️⭐️⭐️ Beautiful rock stars composers ⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Cars ⭐️⭐️⭐️
His calm demeanor reminds me of Herb Alpert.
Rip Ric. You will be missed.
I hope the cars tour one last time so I can see them live, they are my favorite band.
Come to England ! The Cars Fans here.....although I can't help feeling sad about Benjamin Orr RIP xxx
Purple Sunflower the cars fans in England are not real fans, during the rock goes to college concert they acted poorly so to me they suck.
He looks exactly the same as he did in 1979
@Lisa Surlie Cause he didn't want people to know that he was always high
He's wears a rug
yeah. he always looked old for his age. never used skin lotion

He reminds me of Alice Cooper in voice diction.
Are you kidding, they could easily have been related if not brothers.
Yesss!!! I was thinking the exact same thing before I saw your comment :)
This bimbo had no idea who the cars were/are, but always good to hear from Ric as an interview with him is rare. Glad to have the cars back
I hope the cars think about making another album some time soon

WHY COULD YOU HAVE THOUGHT OF THIS WHILE BEN ORR WAS FUCKING ALIVE RIC
hell yea I wish , I feel the same way, and maybe he would've stayed alive long enough and now its over 14 yrs since he s gone now
More Cars! Woo Hoo!
He sounds like Alice Cooper,as he talks.

"It must have seemed like that to you, it didn't seem like that to me" Wtf, she wasn't even ALIVE in the early days!
I saw them in Omaha with Nick Gilder opening. Nick was booed because the fans wanted the Cars. 1985 ish....Nick was good but the fans wanted The Cars

was she even old enough to know who the cars were in their early days?? lol
No.

What's the deal? Does one have to be banging the owner of the promotion company or club to get the interview gig?

Why is there so much echo? Was Rick Ocasec interviewed in a shower -stall?
What is the correct pronunciation of his last name?

Painful to watch this interview. She asks the silliest questions and takes forever to spit them out. Lackluster at best 😕
