So much personality and talent in a compact frame. Never noticed what a great speaking voice he had until I watched this video. Thanks for all the great music, guys. RIP Benjamin and Ric.
I dig Greg's overflowing personality! He seems like a lot of fun. And, of course, he was the perfect keyboardist for the Cars. Loving what you do Greg! Please, never stop.
I had the tremendous honor of meeting Mr. Hawkes and hanging out at his house. Had some amazing conversation about the history of the band, and he let me play one of his ukuleles. I’ll never forget it!
In the early days of the Internet. I want to say about 1995/1996 Greg used to post to the usenet newsgroup AltTheCars. It was really cool, people would ask him questions and he would take the time to answer them. Fantastic guy he is.
The Cars had such depth of music, lyric, and presence! I still think of Benjamin and am STILL trying hard to manage the loss of Ric! Every Cars album was a six-coupon ride! Each member held the band's vocational promise to their fan base! This is a great, soothing interview! Any true Cars fan would appreciate its worthy exposure of Greg's humble genius. Thank-you!
The ukulele will forever be associated with the late great Tiny Tim!! The man who made the instrument a lively piece of rock and roll history. Great stuff!! Thanks for the content!! 🎸 🥁 🎤 🎹
Seen Greg on a video playing Saxophone... (Very well).. it was the end part of... ' All Mixed Up'...in concert at Sussex University. ...England...maybe 1978...he is Awesome.
Greg I just discovered your solo album you did in 1983 and it is fabulous! I always love and admire the way you play and express yourself musically, it has a personality all its own which is you. Thank you for all musical joy you have given us.
Greg is such a talented and fascinating man. He did an album of Beatles songs on ukelele that sounds fabulous. I no longer think of him just as a keyboardist....he is so much more. Thanks so much for posting this interview!
VERY COOL!!!! Thanks for posting this. Love their music, all the members of the Cars seem like really cool guys, very down to earth and funny. That looked like a lot of fun-hanging out with Greg.
I was really into Pink Floyd and Led Zepplin as a pre-teen/early teen then along came The Cars in the mid-70's. They have continued to be a favourite of mine right into my early 60's to this very day! I was saddened when Ben Orr died and then of course Rid Ocasek fairly recently and The Cars are really no more. I love watching interviews like this one of the various band members and to me The Cars were just one of those "special" bands that touched me in a way few other bands could.
Excellent interview - thanks for sharing your thoughts and Memories Greg - your music makes people like me feel GREAT... Keep up the great work - YOU ARE THE BEST EH!
Best damn synth-keyboard player ever. (Magic Fingers) that's what you are. I love this interview. always have enjoyed hearing you play. I love all the toys you play on the song + I'm in touch with your world+ cracks me up. good job Greg by the way. keep up the great jams!;!!;;!!!!!!
greg always reminds me of one of the kids on my 3 sons. im glad to see his interviews and at 69 im happy to anybody older than me who can still speak, play and remember why.
Yeah. Greg Hawkes is who we think he is. As someone who considers the experience of playing in the band as a reference to the golden age of artistic expression, I appreciate his down-to-earth, "Let's Go!" approach to existence. I can tell from the various interviews that they had fun as a band, and that their relatively quick ascension into the popular world was, as it turned out, a pleasant surprise to which Ric said in an interview that it took 20 minutes to adjust.
Wow I love his ukulele version that was really cool! Every person in the cars is amazing no wonder they have lines of people to watch them early on even before they where famous
I recommend watching the awesome guitar playing by primarily keyboardist Greg Hawkes by watching the tune TAKE WHAT YOU WA NT FROM THE NOVEMBER29, 1978 "MUSIKLADEN" PERFORMANCE IN BREMEN, WEST GERMANY! I had no idea he was THAT GOOD until i saw that!
I really like Greg, however I was very disappointed that he didn’t mention Benjamin Orr. The main reason why they sounded different was that a member of their band was missing!
He went to a religious retreat, then came back with a smashing new nose, must've been the power of prayer. LOL. I can totally hear McCartney saying that.
This dude is like the twenty you find on the side of the road when you're out of beer money and the extra money you get refunded back by accident combined.
Seriously intelligent, seriously talented and yet with great self deprecation.... a lesson for us all.
TOP NOTCH musician.... contributed alot to the CARS
Greg you are absolutely awesome and an irriplaceable piece in the cars sound
His keyboard work with the Cars was impeccable 🥰 Master
So much personality and talent in a compact frame. Never noticed what a great speaking voice he had until I watched this video. Thanks for all the great music, guys. RIP Benjamin and Ric.
Love them all. They are/were absolutely brilliant
Thanks Greg for being so real! You rock!
Best in the biz.
Mr. Hawkes you are a true master.
My favorite keyboard player in music. He looks like he'd be a funny guy to hang out with.
Hawkes and Tony Banks both define their bands' sound. Not many others can lay claim to that.
His keyboard work was impeccable
Greg is a badass

wow !
Greg is one of my favorite players. Just amazing
You are bless !!
Luckeeeeeeeerrr!!!!!!
He seems like a great guy.
His creative keyboard wizardry was as key to those songs as Ric's writing and Ben's voice. A true gem of a musician
💯💯💯💯
I met Greg a few years ago. Terrific guy and very funny. A real class act.
I LOVE this! Greg is so talented. I love watching him perform.
In the early days of the Internet. I want to say about 1995/1996 Greg used to post to the usenet newsgroup AltTheCars. It was really cool, people would ask him questions and he would take the time to answer them. Fantastic guy he is.
My fave Car...if I can admit that. They are/were each class A musicians.
One of the most innovative musicians on the planet... no question!
You can’t go wrong with any of the Cars albums. Can’t pick my favorite one!
Greg has always been multi talented
So utterly charming. Master of the synthesizer.
I love him
I love Greg he is multitalented and has a wonderful personality seems so nice. Greg is funny
awesome. Greg was the defining sound of The Cars.
What a super talented musician
Wish I had 1/10 of his skill. 👍👍👍👍

Yeah he plays tons of instruments: guitar, bass, keyboards, percussion, whistles, ect.
Had no idea, but not surprised. They were an eclectic, intelligent group.
Saxophone on the 1st album's closing track too :).
@@joepermenter7228 All Mixed Up

This sounds great - all the Cars were good singers.
Greg you are a one and only incredibly talented musician!
Oh Greg ..genius , humble , gentleman , thanks you ❤

Just watched an interview with Elliot by a disc jockey done the same year as this one.. 2011
Both of these guys ..so likable!
Excellent interview - thanks for sharing your thoughts and Memories Greg - your music makes people like me feel GREAT... Keep up the great work - YOU ARE THE BEST EH!
Great interview with a true artist that shaped the music of the 1980's.
Great interview! Nice guy 😊
Absolutely LOVE Greg! A whizz on the keys and so entertaining! 🎹🎇💛💋💖
Love The Cars. A legendary band from my youth. Greg is such a cool dude. So is Elliot and David. R.I.P. always Ric Ocasik and Ben Orr.
LOVE the Cars!! Always have. Was in college during the 70's, GREAT memories. Thanks Cars!! Will ALWAYS love you guys!!
Seriously, Greg should do an album of Cars songs played on ukelele. This version of You Might Think is so good!!!
TheSeebeesee uhhhh....no. Lol.

totally talented
Great interview and great music. I always love hearing rock/pop songs played on the uke.
He's a cute guy and obviously very talented musically. Must have been really hard to lose Ben all those years ago and now Ric. ❤
Best? Not really
Yeah he is the baddest keyboard player to ever do it , I think Greg plays the guitar on 1 or 2 songs ukulele like a baby guitar
Greg's a great guy but he'd be the first to tell you that his synth chops are not at the Keith Emerson, or Rick Wakeman level.
greg always reminds me of one of the kids on my 3 sons. im glad to see his interviews and at 69 im happy to anybody older than me who can still speak, play and remember why.
i Love The Cars So Much
24 years later and minus one important member.
kay smith sadly, it's minus 2 now
@kay smith Yes, & he's not even mentioned 😒
I highly recommend Greg's "Jingle Ukes" CD!
Perfect Christmas party background music.

Such a doll! Incredibly talented and charming
I'm glad Greg is charmed by the ukulele, but to me it's the kazoo of the stringed instruments.
Wow I love his ukulele version that was really cool! Every person in the cars is amazing no wonder they have lines of people to watch them early on even before they where famous
This is a fun and informative interview.
I love all you guys very much,Greg...Mr.Hawkes!!
A cool little guy and a very talented musician...
My loved keyboards, so sweet!!! Love you much forever Greag! 🎹🎼🎶🎧🎵❤️💯💗💯👏👏👏👍🤗😘😘😘😘🇪🇨👍👏🔈🔉🔊

I love Greg Hawkes.
Oh god, me too!!! 🌟🌟🌟💛💛💛🎇
He looks really good for his age!
Notice all the little instruments on the mantle and scattered around the room!
Thank you for posting! This is fantastic.
11 years ago. Ric and Benjamin were still with us i believe
the solo counter melody on 'I'm not the one' is a monumental masterpiece.
I love the Cars ❤❤❤❤❤
Sweet Spirit.
Greg Hawkes is such a multitalented musician. Greg and Elliot Easton added so much texture to Ric Ocasek's songs.
What a genuine dude!
nice chap
I really like Greg, however I was very disappointed that he didn’t mention Benjamin Orr. The main reason why they sounded different was that a member of their band was missing!
@Rosemarie lllge That's exactly what I thought. It
Wow, this is good stuff!!
My fave keys player ever
The Cars would not be the cars w/o Greg; Rock on Bro!
Greg rules

That was too cool last three end 😭😭😭🤩🤩🥳
The Cars are legends.
Awesome
What a top man.
Greg, since you guys never did "it's all I can do" live, maybe you can do it for us on the ukulele..?
Long live Dr Oversnare! ❤😉👍
He went to a religious retreat, then came back with a smashing new nose, must've been the power of prayer. LOL. I can totally hear McCartney saying that.
Greg made the Cars Great. . .
The Cars one bitchen band!! love you Ben Orr... love you Greg.. and all The Car's sexy guys!!
This dude is like the twenty you find on the side of the road when you're out of beer money and the extra money you get refunded back by accident combined.

I bet Greg could give Tiny Tim a run for his money.
❤❤❤❤❤ 🇦🇷
